It's not a linear dependency though. Eternal's engine is great at handling its stuff (it's faster in rendering and loading than 2016's already), Doom 2's engine (or PrBoom in this case) will have trouble calculating too much stuff at once no matter what PC. It bottlenecks at the engine, not at the PC and its hardware. It has to run the same code for every copy of the object instead of working in batches and such. And you can so often see older games with modern mods lag terribly meanwhile modern games with their millions of polygons, can run smoothly. So yeah!

Today I FINALLY beat this map single-segment. Holy shit this was getting infuriating. I commend you for dying only 58 times, I must have had like 200 failed attempts, I honestly lost count. The lag gets pretty bad in some fights that should be a piece of cake, but I end up having to dodge cyberdemon rockets on 3 FPS. That makes it difficult just to get through the first half, and then there is that god awful fight with the billion hell knights and teleporting archviles / revenants. During my practicing, I did that fight on the first try (no clue how), so I assumed it's not gonna be that difficult, then I just kept dying there over and over during real runs. Then spent hours trying to come up with a reliable strategy, but couldn't make up one that had better than 25% chance of success. Whether the cyberdemons infight in important moments or not, whether the archviles teleport in early or not, it's such RNG and even with a lot of cells saved that fight is such bs. Wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't the penultimate fight on an already long map. At least the final fight is not that bad, it's just really long if you take the 'safe' method. Gonna watch the outtakes now, fitting to have the successful run with the 1% health survival there. On my successful run I was also down to 5% health in the final room haha.

Wow, I could really hear the weariness in your voice. It's amazing that you stayed so positive about the map at the end - I don't think I'd want to play even my favourite map ever 60 times in a row. I played through this with cheats, and sat there watching myself get tossed from Arch-Vile to Arch-Vile thinking "I have no idea how I'd even start playing this map properly". To be perfectly honest I'm not sure I'd want to go through what you did. Map 29 is at least shorter, although no less intense. Map 30, on the other hand, is one of the most grandiose constructions I've seen in the Doom engine. I've never seen another map like it.

This map actually was the hardest map i have ever played in DOOM, I found this much harder than map 29, map 29 i would put on the same level as Proxyon. But then I played map 30, and that made this map look easy. I almost had a mental breakdown playing God Machine.

This fucking map dude. The first time I finished it, I didn't even know about the secret exit. I thought it was just a hard map... Nooo. It's a god damn nightmare. It's hard to appreciate just how difficult it is unless you play it for yourself. sixty attempts sounds right, it took me waaay longer. That red key area and the final fight make this map so annoying. having a room full of pain elementals and cyberdemons is nothing short of masochistic. With all that said, the map is beautiful. However, to me its like eating too much of something good and then even the sight of it makes you sick. That's probably the best way I know of how to describe this map based on experiences. Good luck on the next map.

Now, Mr. Spock," in the final cut of Wrath of Khan--after probably about sixty takes that director Nicholas Meyer kept redoing because Shatner would smugly sing-song the line he was delivering. Edit: Also, that shot at 23:58 gives me chills of, like... staring into a Borg central node or something. It was a sense of foreboding as you just stared into the lion's den.
