@@matteldrydgeSounds of anomalies are taken from stalker. Shrike made sounds for weapons, footsteps, buttons, doors, elevators, using items

Couple of fun facts: 1. The health bar and crucifix are from "Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi". 2. The DB shotgun and can of bug spray seem inspired by Blood (A few monsters from Blood are also used in the mod). 3. Bolts can be used to both attract monsters and detect anomalies. Also, the anomalies seem inspired by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise. (Edit: #3 was wrong, dev responded and said bolts *do* attract monsters, mb.)

Given the choice of sprites, animations and systems, i assume this was meant to be a better version of A.L.A.L.N., or at least a new project by the same creator. The only thing that throws me down is the high monster-player balancing difficulty and the Blurry ADS sprites. Other than that, it's rock solid.

You have full control over how many monsters can spawn, as well as supplies. After tweaking mine slighy, I've run into just 2 monsters and 4 anomalies by map04 of Doom 2. Just gotta mess with it a little.

I am the developer of LID. I did not work on the ALALN mod. I used that mod as a basis. But I am currently in contact with the developer of ALALN, and inspired by my mod, he is working on a remake/reimagining of Lost in Darkness

Please add a water gun that either shoots normal water that does nothing, acid that does damage overtimelike poison, or holy water that is an insta kill, but when picking up water bottles, it's a 2% chance of being holy water.

I want to like this mod. All the stuff for it to be a favorite is there. But the sticking point for me is the enemies. It's like Colorful Hell where you don't know if you'll be facing a tier-1 zombie or God himself, and the hyper-mobility of some monsters doesn't really jive with the more methodical nature of the player. Guess that's what happens when you straight-port monsters from Project Malice like that...

Also I don't think they'll be patching dash. It's realistically the only POSSIBLE way to dodge certain attacks. At most, they might give it a steeper stamina penalty, but it's already rough out there...

Also, maybe they changed it in a more recent patch, but stealth is pretty dogwater. It's not impossible, but it's about as viable as it is in vanilla Doom (that is to say: barely). The bolts are primarily for triggering the anomalies - ala STALKER. There's a small chance that some contain useful items if you trigger them, but you also might want those bolts to clear a more obstructive anomaly. So that's the sort of risk-reward there.

@@matteldrydge ysee you say that, but then you got Mother Demon'd on your first spawn. Maybe my luck was awful too, but it'd been a running theme for the last 12 maps I tried.

@douglewis7946 Eh, I only ran into issues when actually playing before I tweaked the spawn rates. RNG is random so sometimes it'll just screw you over anyway.

I do wish the weapons get overhauled. Artstyle clash is crazy sometimes like with the scanned-in cross.

The cross is taken straight from Nosferatu: the Wrath of Malachi, jank animation and all so I'm pretty sure it's intentional. I don't mind the art clash, it's a Doom mod you play for free. Don't forget finding assets dictates development too.

I always call mods like this “hdest lite”. What other mods would you consider hdest lite? Or are close to HD (nothing will ever come close to HD)

The only other one I spent a lot of time with is Scavver's Paradise. I found it much more fun than HD but it's still an uphill battle, the absence of frag has a lot to do with it.

Such modifications are atmospheric. But there is a minus in such modifications of Doom - it is the design of levels and environments. If animations, weapons and mechanics get changes, then the levels still look outdated. I would like the modifications to have the environment design and level design consistent with everything else.

Mods for Doom are pretty cleanly divided between maps and gameplay mods. This is only a gameplay mod, you have to find the maps on your own - in other words, the mod isn't responsible for changing the levels themselves and criticizing it for not doing so is a moot point.

@@matteldrydge This mod rather affects mechanics and gameplay, partially changing locations. But it is precisely in terms of art design that locations do not become changed in any way. I understand you, modifications come in different forms. Why not make a full redesign of the levels? Brutal Doom is understandable why it changes the gameplay, it is mechanically literally Doom, just with more dynamic gameplay. But there are total conversions.

@endrgar Because that would take a lot of effort. I've made a partial conversion and it took me 10 months to get it out the door, and that was without targeting GZDoom. Imagine how long it would take to remake all of Doom 2 to align with this mod's visual and gameplay style.

@endrgar ...all I said is the only reason Lost in Darkness isn't a TC is because that would take a longer time to develop. PRO-log has been working on it for at least 2 years and that's just for gameplay changes, imagine if he was also trying to handle mapping or coordinating a team of mappers. Besides, most people who make stuff for Doom are either mappers or modders. It's uncommon to find someone wno likes doing both.

Question. Who is better, between LiveThroughtDoom (Aka. LITDOOM) or this new mod LostInDarkness(LID)? (at my perspective, is similar offer a survival horror experience, but with little changes. how i see, LinDks, looks more stalker - vanilla doom scence.

@carloslarareyes5205 I can't tell since I don't often go for survival horror mods, but Lost in Darkness is barking up the immersive sim tree - you have to take care with anomalies, monster spawns can be rare or absent, you have to exorcise graves to get ammo for dealing with ghosts, you can pop balloons for random items and burn cobwebs, etc. It's definitely different enough from LiTDoom that you can't say one is better than the other, because they're chasing different goals.

@@slimeballsake Supercharge has instant weapon switching. Cant't get faster than that. I think Babel has it for the shotguns, but that's about all I'm really going to remember - that's not a feature I really care about, honestly.

Babel already mentioned, but Doom Rebalance also has it if you want something closer to vanilla. I like how FinalDoomer's is a little faster, but still retains some switch time.
