I played Doom in 1996 and Doom II in 1997, my Windows 95 played them, like dream. I also remember fun Doom-clone called Heretic, I used to play all episodes with Thou Art Smite Meister difficulty somewhere in 1997.

Dang man, this is a fantastic video essay. If I wasn't looking at the numbers, I'd swear you were a big-name KZbin channel with a following because this is so very polished and well-made. You deserve way more views and subscribers than you've got. I'm going to tell everyone I know about you (don't get too excited, I'm a shut-in with just a few friends) to try to get some more eyes on you. Great work on the video, I can't wait to watch part 2 which I'm jumping into as soon as I finish this comment.

I think one of the things doom 2016 did that was most faithful to the original is how well optimized it was. 1080p 60fps with med-high settings on a gtx 1050ti was crazy. Also, only a minor detail but Phobos and Deimos are pronounced with the -os sounding like dose. Great video!

Didn’t play doom until I was 24 (I’m 26 now) never too late to enjoy one of the best games of all time. And yes, it still is. Truly legendary and I hope my kids get to experience the same feeling I felt when I first played… even if I was an adult when I first tried it lmao

Well narrated and edited, very pleasant, the pacing was also spot on, just enough time on each game. If you allow me to give you a tip, you could try to make a few jokes here and there, nothing fancy, just a couple of fast quips to make sure people will subscribe and rewatch your videos, this could help you a lot. I'll be waiting for part 2, keep up this great channel!

classic doom imo peaked with knee deep in the dead (excluding 64 which is the best classic game). it's design is so iconic and replayable. everything after just hasnt aged particularly well and sometimes just goes into cruel and unusual punishment territory. its engine, gameplay loop, combat, and mechanics is what carries it still to this day as ngl, alot of the custom wads that have been made in recent years have better and more enjoyable design than most of doom 1, 2 and final. but 2016 and eternal are peak tho

Kudos for focusing so much on accuracy in your research. Even going as far as to call the church, that Peterson was a member of, by its actual name rather than the derivative nickname of Mormons. In my video that I posted 3 days after your video, I didn't have the guts to use the name "Church of Jesus Christ" in a video concerning a game that's about killing monsters in the depths of hell. XD It just didn't feel right even though Doom in concept is the ultimate Christian game. :P

I know this may not be a popular opinion but as an avid Ps1 doom player, I cant stand to hear that stupid 'metal' music on Doom. The PS1 version had an incredible soundtrack of atmospheric music and creepy sound effects that made the game so creepy and immersive, and scary. The pc version soundtrack just sounds so silly and ruins the atmosphere and feel of the game. That composer was right that it wouldn't work.
@Techpoo5 ай бұрын
Personally doom doesn't feel the same without it's varied rock and suspensful tracks. PS1 and Doom 64 were huge let downs because I don't think of scary when I see doom. quake also followed along with the trend and it just felt like a missed opportunity
@Shrikster4 ай бұрын
Doom always had underlaying horror elements, from art design, diminished lighting, sound and so forth, it's part of it's DNA, in fact the games original design was more horror focused then power fantasy, but keeping the element of run and gun, most folks think it's a over the top power fantasy was the develop of the speed running, circle strafe of high tier players but when it was played with just a keyboard the original slower design is far more horror focus as it's original concept, but that concept has kinda been side lined, carmack even stated as such it was supposed to be more doom 3 style with horror blended with action.
