Agreed, as much as teachers impart knowledge onto the younger generation, that doesn’t really help if said students aren’t willing to show the respect, let alone be a functioning human being instead of a screen zombie that just sits there and not engaging with what is being taught. Nor is it the teachers’ responsibility to teach proper adequate and other basic foundations that should have already been established during a child’s development at home.

My brother and his wife have been teachers, elementary, for over 25 years. Both quit last year because they got sick of the disrespect, and verbal and physical abuse by the students, and their parents. These were kids in a "Good" middle to upper class school district. My brother taught high school in LA for ten years, and he said that those students had nothing on this new generation. Mind you back then he had guns pulled on him several times.

it would also help if our schools weren't pushing ideological programing into our kids faces then MAYBE the babies would be interested in LEARNING. DEI needs to GO

if teachers don't want to be baby sitters, they need to quit these schools. These schools do not want to teach, they just want a daycare. These educators should be teaching and advocating for tradeschool to replace these institution who no longer serve a purpose of giving knowledge. That and tradeschools are better suited for preparing students for the real world.

I agree. But also the norms formed by social media and being perfect, looking perfect, be "successful" makes a whole lot of selfcentred people...in this case the parents. We need to stop or heavily reduce the use of ipads, social media plattforms etc because it is going to ruin us. There have been studies shown that all this use has decreased skills such as empathy, conflict resolution, communication, bonding and also patience in us as people. So in other words one will grow up to be narcissistic, lonely and aggressive without the ability to communicate properly. Great!
@nekomancer09

yeah but also most of this problem is from lower class students whose parents have to work more than before because of price increases etc. the rich families who can have private tutoring and education aren't dealing with this issue to a great extent from what i've seen. their kids know discipline. pretty sure if the parents weren't overworked, more of them would be willing to support their kids' learning

I think the pandemic and at-home learning really emphasized the failure on the parents part because the kids couldn't be as easily held accountable for not doing their homework the next day like in person and parents would usually not set up the laptop in a structured/distraction free place. Parents also wouldn't support or help their kids with problems or make sure they understood what was being taught. They were super hands-off and children need structure to thrive, structure which both the pandemic and their parents fail to give them.

I have had conversations every year with my children's schools that I do NOT want my children pushed through. Real life doesn't work that way. If my children aren't learning the material or doing the work well, maybe they'll catch on the second time around. I also refuse to let them do summer school. I'm fairly easy going as a mom. I know everyone needs mental health days and my children are free to come to me and say i just can't do it today...I have those days too...but I also tell them that they may be surprised by how resilient they are when they push through difficult times and come out the other side. I definitely think c19 had a very detrimental effect on school age kids. I also see that things like TikTok (not allowed in my house) are playing a huge part in why kids just aren't living up to their potential. If you want to see the results of how this plays out in real life just watch any of the bodycam videos available from cops for people in this age range. Crazy stuff.

Letting kids fail upwards just makes it impossible for them to ever catch up. We plan on homeschooling and so far, my kids are very friendly, compared to the other children who hardly want to socialize at all. Every time my son sees a younger child he always wants to say hello and be friendly towards them. I often find other kids are rude or are detached and don't want to play with kids they don't know. I want my kids to grow up having friends, but how hard will it be, if their generation is this way? I remember how easy it was to make friends at a park even just for the day when I was a kid (I'm 28). Although my generation was one of the last to play outside regularly and have very frequent interactions with the neighborhood kids. Times are just different.

I'd have to see what you're seeing exactly to know the degree to which it's abnormal, but as a mother of two very young children yourself, I can imagine you're fully aware of all this and so I'd love to see what you're seeing because more people should know the early warning signs of this so they can head it off at the pass.

The parents always blamed it on us... but then admitted later that they have a padded room at home for this very reason. A. Padded. Room. For tantrums. Let that sink in. It's so messed up, I can't even fathom it. Instead of actually guiding their child through their emotions or god forbid some sort of discipline, they just put him in a room that they had designated was safe enough for him to destroy. Absolutely mind-blowing.

Mainstreaming highly dysfunctional kids has been a failure. They need to bring back special ed, remedial and behavioural streams, so the majority don't have their educations ruined, and stop letting failing students fail upwards, where they'll have even less chance of catching up. They also need to stop leaning on restorative justice so much as a substitute for discipline. It's only appropriate for mild to moderate misbehaviour, and first offenders. School administrators and governing bodies need to stop cowing to and placating nasty parents and start supporting their teachers.

My hope for gen alpha happend earlier this spring when my freinds and i were hanging out for our school's senior skip day... We were off for the day and we didnt have anything better to do without school so we all went down to the neighborhood park and there was like this little mini baseball field that we were hitting whiffle balls at. eventually it got to be about 3pm and the elementary school buses were dropping kids off and this group of 9 year olds were walking towards us as we were on the field. Meanwhile we were really suspicious of them because we've seen what ipad kids are like (who hasnt). Eventually they approached us and they were all like 'we saw you playing baseball and we were wondering if its ok if we join?' and they were all super respectful towards us even though we werent even adult, And we kind of looked at eachother before just being like 'why not' and let them join us. After introducing themselves we decided to hype it up and treat it like an mlb draft and we would pick teams and hype up the kids too and they were all absolutely loving it. When we actually started playing all of them were super nice and nobody was trash talking or spewing brainrot like you see some kids do whenever they are without a phone. They just acted like kids and they reminded me if when i was younger and id go play with my neighbors and we just saw video games as like another toy and not the only thing in our life that entertained us. After awhile we even managed to pick up more kids that were shut in their houses out and we had a group of like 35 kids all outside playing and you wouldve thought that we were the coolest kids in the whole city with the way everyone was with us. We even had some parents that were talking with us eventually and mentioning that its rare to see their kids visit the playground like this and that they were glad the kids were playing outside today. I should probably also mention that it wasnt like this was a day with perfectly weather where the parents were forcing their kids to be outside this was literally on a overcast monday where the temperature kept flip flopping between like 60 and 80 in a matter of hours with heavy rain in-between but nobody really cared and afterwards my freinds and i were talking about how we probably just made a core memory about the time the big kids let them play. Long story short: it doesn't take much to bring an ipad kid back to normal, all it takes is literally just showing them how to have fun without a phone and a little bit of attention

Ok im 11 im in 5th grade and i noticed a very big difference of literacy rate of my classmates. They are worse than my classmates before pandemic, these children are worse than literal 1st graders and i am not making this up. This has gotten so bad its getting so out of hand, i cant even describe how much i feel bad for them. I try to get them into the right track, i try to teach them the right things to do. But they cant comprehend the severity of this situation, they dont know what im talking about. They are getting math scores so unimaginably low, its not even funny anymore its concerning. When people try to teach them something they say they perfectly understand, then the next day you ask a question about what they taught them. They dont know they are completely unfamiliar and clueless about it. I cant understand how unbelievably short their attention span is, The foreign knowledge that is given to them and gave them a thorough and deep explanation about the topic, no it doesnt stick to their head, they dont care what the teacher is teaching them.

Everyone went to lunch and left him in there. Our gen was bad also (at least at my ghetto public high school). I think every new gen is the 'worst' gen for teachers. skibidi toilet is a decent SFM meme animation tbh, it's not doing anything bad by existing

It horrifies me because I’m at high school and some girls in my class (as we had this teacher for drugs come through ) had to do this thing about drugs and we had to go into teams and these girls decide to choose their names as “skibidis.” And some kids ask if the teacher knows what that even means and she says she allows her sons to watch skibidi toilet. You’re meant to teach about drugs and at this point it’s a form of drugs for little kids, realize that not all drugs are physical. It’s your job.
