I can't agree with silenthunder85 over there. This piece you made is definitely one of the best DOOM remixes I have ever heard (I wrote about it shortly elsewhere), and it's due to the fact that you had the guts to make a very distant interpretation of it, something that is very not "DOOM-like", yet very loyal to the original score and fully justifies itself in its new style (and like you said, if you insist you can reconnect the DOOM context...). Really. Amazing work. So pleasant and beautiful.

Fantastic remix, definitely has a soothing lofi sound from 20+ years ago, honestly reminds me a bit of David Wise's work on the DKC trilogy (especially Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2). Glad I was introduced to this remix. Since the rest of the Doom community hasn't started coming here yet, I should probably state that this remix has been... _Implicated,_ for lack of a better term, as being connected to the recently released Doom II horror map, MyHouse.wad by Steve "Veddge" Nelson. A Doom KZbinr named PowerPak had come across the original OCRemix upload of this remix when he was searching "doom 231" here on KZbin. The significance of "231" comes from the supplied journal that's with the horror map hosted in a Google Drive folder, and on top of the fact that every instance of the word "house" is highlighted blue a la House of Leaves, three of the dates in the journal have a numerical digit that's colored red. In chronological order, the red numerals are 2, 3, and 1, and "Doomed" is OCRemix's 231st remix from 2000. The actual connection to your remix of E1M8's theme is questionable, the only supporting evidence lies within the narrative of MyHouse, Veddge themselves being a longtime Doom community member, and the fact that Sign of Evil makes a small cameo in the wad (can't really expound upon my points without potentially spoiling it). Thought I'd let you know since the original OCRemix upload of this remix has been flooded with comments of people coming from either PowerPak's video or DoomWorld, and eventually more will arrive here. Again, fantastic remix.

This is honestly one of the best Doom remixes out there. Not only does it completely reinvent Sign of evil, it wholeheartedly subverts your expectations while doing so. You’d think this would be your standard guitar metal remix, but you get THIS! Excellent work, Richard.

This has to be one of the craziest DOOM remixes I've heard. I was fully expecting it to sound more orchestrated, but instead, I got a beautiful ambient remix of a great DOOM song.

So unique, compelling, entrancing, daring, sinister, ominous, on the edge, riveting, poignant; it sure lives up to what it was made for. There was one particular comment from a long time ago on the OCRemix site about this somewhere that was so awesome, that really stood up for this, sadly couldn't find it again, vanished. 0:01 0:24 0:34 0:53 1:14 1:47 2:13 2:38 2:58 3:12 3:44 3:51 4:04 4:17 4:27 4:35 that last tone that shines through like a ray, spelling out the fate of this doomed space marine, surrounded by the many wickedest of demons, could only fight to the last.

I commented on the other version of this video, but in case that isn't read, I'll abbreviate. Thanks for writing this. Its been on my computer for about 10 years, and I listen to it all the time. The ending is gorgeous, and this particular track will always mean a lot to me. I don't know why I didn't check out more information about 'Rimco' sooner, but it gets lost how much a song can mean to a person in the world of page views, # of listens, and status. Brilliant track. The ending helps me get through hard times.

I rememember downloading a lot of music off OCRemix some twenty years ago and burning the ones I liked the most on CD so that I could listen to them while I drove my car. This track was the closer. But... now that I think of it, it's kind of a downer ending... Nonetheless, I felt it was the best song on the disc. While I can't recall any of the other tracks; yours never left my memory, and I say that out of all the remixes of this classic tune, yours is the best!

Hey, Mr. Craig, another OCRemix browser here. Man, I've been listening to (and loving) this remix for, damn, what's it been? Ten years? Since the early OCRemix days, really. You know, those days when Danny Baranowski was just some unknown dude who'd remixed the occasional video game music track, haha! Just wanted to add my voice to all the other people praising you for this remix. I feel it has just the right amount of remixer input to make it fresh and new, but still keep that tragic, melancholic feel the original had. Cheers, man!

I'm not sure if you realize this yet, but this song is speculated to have inspired one of the greatest and biggest DOOM maps of all time. You have to have heard of myhouse by now I'm sure.
@RichardCraig Жыл бұрын
I need more info, you're the second person to tell me this and I can't find anything! I've skimmed a few playthroughs and can't find anything.
@@RichardCraig Someone may already have explained this, but the MyHouse map itself doesn't include any direct reference to your remix - rather, the numbers 2, 3, and 1, in that order, are highlighted in red when they appear in a Google Document that the developer created to accompany the map, so people think that's his subtle way of pointing people to the OverClocked Remix upload while keeping a bit of mystery. If your work was indeed the inspiration (which I think is credible), all he took was the general idea of using Doom as a vehicle to evoke more complex, contemplative emotions. However, the map does include an extremely slow, distorted, contemplative Running from Evil remix called "memory=entryrrrr/////", specially created by an artist named Esselfortium, and though it's ambient rather than new-age, I can definitely see an atmospheric similarity with your work here. You can find "memory=entryrrrr/////" on KZbin if you'd like to judge for yourself. This is purely my speculation, but I think the developer may have sent your Sign of Evil remix to Esselfortium and essentially asked them to create an equivalent take on Running from Evil.

Yeah, it's kind of a hallmark of my early style (I did this song over a decade ago). I think a commenter on OCRemix's vid of my song described it best as reflecting the isolation of the guy after he's killed everything, kinda sad and lonely and 'wtf do I do now'. Really, writing music is very organic for me... it just becomes whatever it becomes, and this one definitely went off on a tangent that doesn't fit the Doom mood, but it's a nice showpiece of my early work. Thanks for listening!
