I spent summers in the late 70's, all the 80`s and the 90`s in Lake George. We always hit that mall and the Spencer's there. There used to be a CVS in there which was odd to me, but we would buy candy for the movies there.

Sometimes I think part of a rental agreement for anchor tenants should be that they have to open their mall entrances.

It makes me sad when replacement anchors close off the mall access. It also makes me sad that the food court is almost empty.

Living about 5 min from Aviation I learned from older coworkers some or all of the planters in the Ollie's area were water features. My family, especially my son, loves your channel Doomie. Keep up the good work!

Great video. I love the old world vibes in Aviation mall as well, it takes me back. Great simple, elegant geometry and brickwork. I am not a big fan of the more recent updates to this mall though. Please check out Rotterdam Square mall. It is my favorite mall in the area. There is so much history there. There is an old historic cemetery at one of the entrance ways, a newer aquarium addition from the new owners, Sea Life mural, state offices, center fountain, theater, BMX track a mile or so up the road, near historic General Electric, etc. This was and will always be my favorite mall in the area, it has the most nostalgia for me. Such history, I will truly miss the old shops, old classic arcade, and carousel.

Thank you Doomie Grunt, Aviation was my hometown mall growing up. Definitely has seen much brighter days. I always try to visit when I’m back in the area to see what’s gone. Several more of these stores have closed since. Ollie’s is still going strong but I too wish they would open up into the mall.

When I lived in the glens falls and lake george region in the early 90’s I hung out in aviation mall a lot(graduated from argyle school in ‘92)I remember going to McDonald’s (where the glass atrium area is when you walked into the mall entrance in the video) I also remember the video arcade too. The food court was the busiest area, I remember dating a girl when I went to Adirondack community college and eating there. lol figured someone would do a video on it when I saw other slowly dying malls being done on KZbin. Sad that the malls heyday seems to be gone. Though I’m glad that the brick atrium area is still there, I used to hang around that area too after going to the bookstore and getting books and it was a nice relaxing area to read. In 1994 I left the area after enlisting in the army and only came home once, and remember walking through the mall with my family while I was on leave. That was the last time I ever stepped in there. While I’m glad the mall is still going, seeing this and other malls that are slowly dying is somewhat depressing. But I remember what it used to be, and will be a memory I will always have. Thanks for doing this video as I was curious as to how the mall looks today. 🙂

This mall has changed a lot in the last 12 years. Lots of things I remember being in there are gone. Only a few things remain in the mail from when I was last in there. Such as Spencer's, auntie Anne's, Dick's, Target, Regal and the jewelers. Everything else is new GNC moved. The food court is a joke you can eat Chinese food or pretzels. The arcade was there but is under a new name. As a kid in the early 2ks I remember what everything was and where it was. Change is inevitable but sad to see my childhood mall dead I watched this as I wanted to see what was in there. I moved across the country 12 years ago to CA. Anyway thanks for walking me through the mall what's left of it anyway.

This mall is a blend of different eras all in one building. It is really awesome that they have been able to keep that Ollie's court as is. With that being said, there are a fair amount of vacancies. Ollie's not opening up to the mall is not helping. About half of the mall has anchors and the other half has the vacant Sears and Ollie's. Well done on this video.

That last stretch on your way out, looked to have been shorted on the remodeling budget, no attempt @ style - Concur on your feelings of Ollie's court, very nice (those exterior brick planter runways probably housed a fountain)

I loved the greenery and style of the Ollie's wing of the mall (the planters do look like they could have been a fancy and elaborate water feature)…if that style is a hint of what the Aviation Mall once looked like in its entirety, I would have loved to have seen it in its heyday.

Did maintenance at this mall during my very early 20’s. If this was shot in 2020, I was there around the time this video came out. Probably one of the best jobs I’ve ever had, quiet, dead mall where you could slip out to read a book or smoke a cigarette. Miss this place a lot. It’s Glen(S) Falls, by the way

The Caldor mall court actually had waterfalls. You can clearly see a channel at 4:30. My brother and I used to race dead leafs down them. There was another fountain outside of JCPenney that had a bridge over it. I can still hear the sound it made when you ran across it. You can also see windows that were once part of The Ground Round at 11:05 Free popcorn! Now it's mall offices. 🙄

@@DoomieGruntVentures I know they are now missing sears and bon ton at minimum and those wings are probably dead. Food court has been mostly dead for years but cinemas are open still. Fountain exists but is a shadow of how it used to be. Sister mall is rotterdam square and it's probably in worse shape, I made a video on that one a few years ago.

As far as your views on the future of malls let me interject with some of the things that have disappeared in my lifetime. Telephone operators, full service gas stations drive-in movie theaters for the most part, listening to AM radio and also FM radio for the most part. The point I'm making here is that malls in your lifetime are probably going to disappear because of online shopping and Amazon. Another thing that my generation called gossips has been repurposed into social media influencers. Eventually money may disappear to where everything is done with a piece of plastic and having forbid if there's ever an EMP that will completely wipe out the internet and banking as a whole and also please remember yard sales because if you do become a cashless society I can't envision people getting scanners for a cell phone to sell an item for $25 or a dollar. This is no criticism on any generation because with all generations things disappear. My grandparents did not have luxuries like air conditioning and for heat it was either coal burning furnaces or pot bellied stoves in fact in 1966 in the hills and hollers of Kentucky while on vacation we saw a line about 100 yards long of people standing in front of my great uncle's house waiting to go inside one at a time and we didn't know what for but we got in line and when we finally got inside we saw what the line was for. Everyone was taking a turn to flush a toilet because he was the first one up there to have indoor plumbing. Nice video and posting so keep creating 🖖💙✌️👍👍
