The problem with the Doc Manhattan question is even trying to determine what his current capability is. In his original storyline from The Watchmen, his power grew exponentially over time, eventually causing him to lose not only his humanity and morality but his grasp of mortal concerns and perceptions. He knew this acutely, as only a being of his power and reach could, and he separated himself from earthly concerns at the end of that storyline. From what we are seeing from the introduction of The Button, he's clearly continued on his arc of power evolution well past what he was capable of in The Watchmen. In my opinion this puts "nemesis" type characters such as Cameron Chase and Rogue WAY under his league. Cameron Chase can't turn off the Sun if it scares her anymore than she can deactivate the universal force of gravity because she is afraid after falling off a mountain. Her relationship with the laws of reality are identical to her relationship and interaction with Dr. Manhattan. He's beyond a force of nature. He's an architect of the underpinnings of reality. She couldn't even attempt to screw with him unless he went out of his way to not only make himself perceptible to her but also manifest some construct for her to battle, which would be the equivalent of a person shining a laser pointer for a cat to chase. No matter how well that cat performs it's not hurting the person holding the laser pointer. The Presence is the only character that's actually in the same league as Doc Manhattan and that question is kind of semantic. Who wins in a housebuilding battle between a bricklayer and a carpenter? Probably neither but the house is destroyed in the process, in which case even if one beat the other it wouldn't matter because existence wouldn't even exist anymore to record the event.

I've watched the latest video of Explained Comics where it shows a future of Dr. Manhattan fighting an enraged Superman and the moment Superman throws a punch, everything goes dark and Dr. Manhattan can't see beyond that. If its true that this woman has the potential to shut off his powers than I think that could explain why Dr. Manhattan can't see beyond this future. Another theory I've read in the comment section of that video is that just as Dr. M and Superman are about to fight, they're suddenly wisked away and into a new timeline, or something that separates them from every timeline, so it sort of makes sense how at this moment Dr. M can't see the future beyond the moment he fights with Superman because he's only seeing the future of that timeline, so if he's no longer on that timeline or at any timeline, then he can't what happens next. I'm new to Dr. Manhattan though so I'm not quite sure about how concrete these theories could be, any thoughts you would like to spare that could be better reasoning?

As demonstrated in watchmen doctor Manhattan can be foiled in regards to his perception of time, so a powerful enough being could stop his ability to know what is going to happen. He has also been made to see a course of action as reasonable/undeniable as with Ozymandias and agree to follow it. Another option,and my preferred, is that Dr Manhattan 'saw' the first amount of damage done by the flash and attempted to repair the clockwork, but the multiverse was already broken so he's trying to fix a clock with too many pieces from an infinite number of clocks and he needs to be made aware that this is an unfix-able problem.

That is a flawed thought, and one of the few things I did not liked about Watchmen. You can not say something is a miracle because it happened against incredible odds, no matter how unfavorable the odds are at the end everything is random and there is a possibility of that something happening. Even if you defeat him, what would that accomplish? He can reassemble himself at the atomic, if not subatomic level. That's how he came to being in the firstplace--it's the first trick he learned. You could by all intents and puposes only have defeated one of a million duplicates of himself while various councils of 10,000 of himself watch, analyze, and discuss the whole thing from various dimensions in distant galaxies. And when it's over the one who was destroyed will reassemble himself and give a commentary of the whole experience to the rest of himself.

I'm thinking this is because Dr. Manhattan still sees himself as a scientist, not a super-villain. Granted, he's a failed scientist and failed human being turned into a Quantum God, but still. His "official" mentality (the one he tells himself) is that he's still doing science, and that he shouldn't ruin his experiments by ending the life he's created. Unofficially? He doesn't want to fail again. Every greasy spot he makes reminds him of Rorschach, and the truth. As for the others? I'm thinking Superman and others like him could be picked apart by simple atomic transmutation--turning the carbon in his bloodstream into kryptonite, for example. Lanterns and Entities? That's harder. He could break them apart, sure, but wiping them out entirely sabotages an emotional aspect of life itself. Notice that Kyle Rayner's White Lantern Ring wasn't destroyed--it was forced into its separate components. Volthoom could likewise be picked apart until there's a whole Spectrum of "disordered colors" or Dark Spectrum to match the mainstream one. But wiping out Parallax entirely would wipe out fear itself, entirely. Or at the very least make it a lifeless force unable to light up a room, never mind make things.

The creator of this video got something wrong: the blue body isn’t the real Dr. Manhattan. It doesn’t matter if you „shut“ his powers down. Think of it like drawing yourself into a comic book (but still being yourself in 3D) and pretend like the characters are living in the comic book (there’s something like time and they can move around in 2D) now someone shuts the power down of the drawing of yourself you made in the comic book. So what can you do? You could erase the person who did it, alter it in anyway you like, or just be like I don’t care. Let’s draw another „me“ in the comic book. No one is able to come out of the comic book (which is 2D) and punch you the person sitting in front of the comic book (in 3D) in the face. Basically being from a higher dimension means you’re a god to the other lower dimensions. The question who the most powerful entity is is pretty damn simple: who lives in the highest dimension? It’s either the overvoid or Manhattan (Manhattan being in the same dimension as the monitors seem unlikely given the fact that it looks like no one is messing with him in the real world (eg. the blue comic book Manhattan is like „Sorry guys I will pause your multiverse for a second a few monitors want to talk with me“) or he’s not talking about other beings in his dimension (or he is the only being in his dimension who knows)). As some of you can see I’m not even going to mess around with comic book stuff as it’s just blank science/philosophy. His matter manipulation has only been observed in the context of how he came to be. Yes he cant undone via the method that undid him the first time. But that is not the only way. Darkseid for example could use his Omega beams, which works completely different from the intrinsic field being the oversimplified concept of loosening molecular bonds, or "disintegration." And Manhattan would have to know and understand how Omega beams work in order to form himself. He is immune to his own reality manipulation but who says he is immune to that of others? No one, because its never been done, not yet at least. Manhattan has beings higher than he is in the DC universe that he couldn't see contending with in Watchmen universe. Honestly, Im not sure WHY much of his powers works. He shows up in a multiverse that should span beyond him and just breaks laws basically just because he did so in Watchmen. He disrupts balance by simply being there. Can he completely stop the Speed Force for example, just because? Is he the Speed Force now? Can he alter the anti-matter universe? How? I think you're seeing Manhattan as a physical threat... He's not, only way he can be stopped is by being convinced to do so, only if he genuinely wants to, just like ozymandias did at the end of Watchmen. Furthermore, he seems to be able to manipulate, not just matter or energy, but reality as a whole. I don't even think he will be stopped, he's planning something we haven't seen yet and it's gonna be huge.

Hmm. Here's what little I've seen, heard and figured out about that "something huge". A phrase. "Hyper-Crisis". Implying at some level, that hyper-time is still a thing in some way? The rise of the Dark Multiverse, implying that the structure of the local multiverse, as such, less resembles an inverted Pyramid with Earth-Zero (the mainstream DCU, current relevance center of existence) being at the point on the bottom. . . and more like a Conic Sections diagram (two cones, one inverted, one not, with a single point/world in the middle). My humble guess? That's probably wrong? At least two scenarios could play out, and might even do so at the same time: Scenario Zero: Earth-Zero stays the relevance center of the multiverse, but it gets quarantined. Isolated from all other so-called parallel worlds. Dr. Manhattan (or whatever gives him pause) resets everything to a roughly pre-Flashpoint status and declares this world "off limits, a control world" versus an experimental one. There are side effects. One of them is that Barry Allen is no longer alive: he gets replaced entirely by someone else. Another is that all speedsters _but_ the current Reverse-Flash are no longer capable of more than three minute's worth of time travel and CANNOT access the multiverse (because Quarantine). The current Reverse-Flash can time travel but is confined to exactly ONE timeline, and can't change anything in it, because he's a villain, duh. Scenario One: Earth-Zero is no longer the relevance center of the multiverse. It gets demoted and is literally allowed to decline into the Dark Multiverse, which has an isolating effect. Earth One, as such, replaces Earth-Zero as the relevance center of the multiverse and is declared a control world, not an experimental one. While Dr. Manhattan hasn't isolated Earth One, it is in itself, harder than average to "get to" from the multiverse. The multiverse exists in vague continuity, in Earth One, but doesn't interact much at all with it. Things go back partially to a 1980s Late Silver Age perspective, only smarter, and with notable, twisted exceptions. -(just ignore that "new world" over yonder that manifested itself where Earth-2 once was. . . nope, nothing to see at all over there on that "new world")-

i like the watchmen, A LOT. But i think that they work best as a self contained story with intentional themes. Dr manhattan works as a metaphor for the nuclear bomb, but as a hero he provides a headache for the idea of a balanced and sensible superhero universe.

Didn't Dr M already go back into his own past and stop himself from becoming Dr M and he just watched how his life would've been if he never got his powers. He wasn't wiped from existence when he stopped himself from becoming Dr M so that means anything that happens in his past doesn't impact him at all so time travel doesn't work against him anyway.

Man I have a problem with power negators in fiction though. Because it’s like, what about aliens and mutants? Isn’t turning off Wolverine’s Claws kinda like turning off my power to blink? Or what about the mutant Beak or someone like that? How does turning off their power work, do they just magic back to a normal human look? The problem is we’re dealing with biology (fictional biology but still) not an rpg stat buff or skill.

Can't exactly expect to negate the powers of a person you can't get to... Also, what you said about mutants, there have been cases where mutants (before that whole "no more mutants" thing...), lost their powers, or had them negated, & it had absolutely NO effect on their appearance, so for mutants, their appearance (in, at least, some cases) isn't considered a "power", & during "Civil War", when Maria Hill informed Wolverine that his powers were being turned off or whatever, due to him NOT doing as she wanted, he stated that many people are mistaken & that his claws aren't a power, so, he was still able to pop his claws even with his powers negated or something similar to that (if I remember correctly... I'd need to find the comic again... & yes, I do know that CW came AFTER the "no more mutants" thing, but I was only referring to Wolverine on that part, the first part of what I said was referring to BEFORE that...)...

The fact that Hope used Wolverine's claws is unfortunate, as his main power is healing factor. The claws are just a part of his anatomy, but I guess that's what all mutants' mutations are, so I guess it would make sense if you think of it that way. I still think Wolverine would fall under the same blanket of people who counter a power negator, like batman would as he doesn't have any real powers as far as we know.

Problem is, Dr.Manhattan is omniscient, meaning he'd see that coming. Together with all other powers he has, it would be impossible for anyone to overpower him But it's probably not the only way to stop him. If it's even something people would necessarily want to do, because we don't even know what his plan is. You think of him as villain, but i doubt that it's correct. Latest DC stories feature some unorthodox stuff, and i'm expecting this to end the same way, with something unusual and surprising. Not the typical good guy VS evil guy standoff.

Seeing a lot of stupid comments so I'll try to settle this. (I'll even give a little list for you marvel fans if you want to know how he'd fair in the Marvel Omniverse, thank me later) 1. The Presence - obviously, he/she (it doesn't matter which version) is the embodiment of the writers. COMPLETELY omnipotent. 2. The Endless (Destiny, Dream, Death, Destruction, Desire, Despair, Delirium) - together they are omnipotent, each being near omnipotent. All omnipresent. They can't be killed as they are kind of the things that gives the DC Omniverse a meaning. For example if Desire was killed, no one will have a goal; if Destiny was killed there would be nothing at the end of your goal therefor DC would be meaningless INCLUDING Dr Manhattan. 3. Lucifer and Michael - The angels were unaffected. Heaven remains outside of Dr Manhattens reach. These guys are like pre retcon beyonder and Molecule man from Marvel. They could wipe out Dr Manhattan from existence before Dr Manhattan could think about doing it (that includes him thinking about going back in time and doing it before Lucifer or Michael thought about doing it, shit got complex fast) Now them were the DC characters that could DEFINITELY beat Dr Manhattan I'm sure there are some characters that are on a maybe. You could argue unbound spectre and a few others but they're all debatable. For the Marvel fans: One above All (obviously) Pre Retcon Beyonder Molecule Man -Franklin Richards (unlikely, but maybe when he's very old and has mastered making multiverses instead of universes) -God Doom (equal) -Living Tribunal (we haven't seen him create universes on Manhattan's scale so, maybe) - The Beyonders Sorry guys but I honestly don't think even Eternity, Infinity, Galactus, Mikaboshi and other cosmic beings could win, they haven't created multiverses on Manhattan's scale. I hope this was in depth enough. EDIT: He controls time in the New 52 Universe. Not the entire DC Omniverse so yeah the characters I mentioned are above him

Agreed. So many stupid answers and comments above. DC Omniverse includes aspects of Marvel (particularly pre-retcon prime Marvel verse), so Marvel characters would be able to enter this battle. The angels exists outside of universe manipulation and can travel outside of creation pretty casually. Lucifer can create a universe of his own. Also missing Elaine Belloc (God's grand-daughter and pretty much god v2 by the end of her story). Superjudge - being a Monitor he already exists outside of DC continuity + has feats well beyond the gods of DC

It's tough to wrap your head around such an issue though, because if Dr Manhattan has cosmic awareness, then surely he would be able to predict somebody sneaking up on him, or if Cameron Chase was a viable threat to him, then surely he would just disintegrate her before she even knew what was happening?? Same goes for entities such as The Spectre, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Captain Atom etc. I think entities with the same level or cosmic awareness or more would only be able to stand any chance imo.

I mean, the Cameron Chase thing is the same as the Batman vs Superman thing; if Chase can get close enough and manages to set her powers off, then yes - Dr. Manhattan's powers would shut down and he'd probably cease to be, since he's not exactly a blue naked man, his powers kind of manifested into a physical form. On the other hand, she's a human, and Dr. Manhattan is Dr. Manhattan. If Dr. Manhattan is as smart as they make him out to be, which he is, then as soon as any shit starts, long even before anyone gets the idea of calling her in; he would just teleport her into the sun or whatever and nothing could stop him. In fact, given his disconnection from humanity and life, I'm surprised he hasn't already.
