I love that in around 40 years of comics, his origins and characterization are essentially the same across the board. Based on this you could argue that the version of him in Superman TAS/ JL/JLU, the animated films till Flashpoint, the DCAU, Smallville, the Arrowverse mention and the Snyder version of him are ALL the same. It was so disappointing how Grail had so much potential to be one of the most OP villains we'd seen in a long time, only to have her be basically forgotten. She's the daughter of Darkseid and an Amazon, there was so much they could have done with her after Darkseid's death.

Darkseid wants to free people of all the responsibilities and suffering of life, therefore in his eyes he views not having free will (which is a euphemism for death) is the ultimate peace. He believes that death ( no free will) is better than life because humans wont have to suffer the burden of life.

Jack Kirby's Darkseid is the only Darkseid that needs any attention. And Snyder's Darseid is inspired by that Darkseid, not the new 52 one. Jack Kirby's grand son thanked him on twitter because of that. The new 52 one is just there cause it's Darkseid & kind of underwhelming.

I'd be more interested in learning how Darkseid acquired the Omega Effect. Without it, he's nothing. The Omega Effect is like the Entropy of the universe. How did he acquire this power and why does his father and daughter have it? It's not genetics is it? Yuga Khan was able to utilize the full power of the Omega Effect. Darkseid changed his entire appearance after he got that power. There is still no really good explanation in New 52 about Omega Effect.

He never felt threatening to me because each time he has a hero in weak position, he goes all "I'm cruel, I'm bad-ass blahblah" and then "but I won't kill you nor even hurt you because it amuses me muahahahah". Even after the hero insulted him or something, he let it go in front of everyone. It makes him look weak and pathetic.

Not in any sense that I know of. Doctor doom being trapped comes from a crossover event with DC and Marvel....at the End doom was trapped. Now since doom doesn't exist in DC and is a Marvel character, I assume that's why he's never left the source wall

Simp Thanos vs Chad Darkseid I think Thanos is better though, the whole loving death because it would be his only companion in his childhood was really interesting. His goals strived from a stubborn attachment i guess you could say. With that said, both characters are fucking awesome
