I work armed security at a federal complex. I arrive at 5am everyday before anyone else to open. There are lamposts lighting the sidewalk and and main gate canopy while pitch black darkness surrounds the area. The interiors are well lit and appear like normal offices, but the further you go, the more advanced looking and sterile the place gets; just like RE2's transition from the factory to the Umbrella labs. Usually I can hear this song playing in my head as I arrive and walk inside to gear up

The blue darkness of 1.5 and this are a perfect match. The claustrophobic nature of the corridors and being overwhelmed was always contrasted by absolute nothingness…being the last person alive on Earth. Every time I reach a dead end…see a dead end sign. The 2nd game was unique unto itself in comparison to the rest of the series honestly. I have various emotional connections and reactions to the music from the 2nd entry that I don’t necessarily from the others and I cannot quite explain why.

I would love to go back to the time when this game first came out, when I was only eight or nine years old. Things were so much simpler then, although I didn't know it at the time. My chief concern was trying to get through the school day without getting picked on. I had actually thought that that was the worst thing that could ever happen - to not be liked amongst my peers. How silly and naive we are as children. This game, as well as video games in general, helped balance me as a child, and gave me something to look forward to during the shitty days. It was my nirvana, my source of peace and calm (Licker screams/leaps raising my heart rate notwithstanding). Now with 2020 in full swing, and facing such incredible, insurmountable loss, I find myself with an ever-decreasing amount of reasons to keep trudging on. I would really like to go back in time. I would hug my father every day when he came home from work. I would tell him that I loved him and share how proud of him I am, daily. I miss and love him very much. He was such a wonderful, amazing, irreplaceable, and beautiful man. I wish it were 1998 again.

A few years ago, I use to do shitty temp work in a huge government building and it had a top floor which was there for storage of old furniture and old even unused computers (because fuck tax payer money). It was messy, barely any lighting and barely anyone went up there. There was a long hallway so I decided to run down it out of boredom. Every corridor I turned, I froze then resumed running like in the game when you enter another part of the room with a different camera angle. It reminded me of this game and I played this song in my head lol. They didn't call me back but fuck them, it was shit anyway.

Sometimes this track will cause me to remember playing on the playground of what used to be the police station around here. Not that there was anything particular ominous about it. Probably has more to do with the original working title of the song and the specific period in my life. Especially how hopeless the other place was.
