This track is the crown jewel of RE2 that perfectly captures the heavy feeling of the moment. Peaceful yet macabre, this music perfectly depicts the feeling of the calm before the storm - leaving behind the monster infested sewers but before heading into the hellscape that originated the G-virus.

It’s too bad the RE2 remake didn’t live up to the hype, at least in my opinion. Sure, objectively it’s a good game but as a remake I honestly think it dropped the ball, especially in the scenario B. The REmake is still the definitive remake imo of a classic Resident Evil game.

It's been 25 years, but I still have a very vivid memory about this track and this moment in the game, when it played for the first time, in my first ever playthrough in 1998. I was 13 years old back then and not a very good gamer. Walking outside the shed after the sewers, this music starts, no enemies around..it felt liberating and the track calmed me down. i had used up alot of items, still remember leon standing there, holding his wounds as an indicator of charackter HP. seeing the city skyline in the background made me feel like: i've fled the epicenter of chaos and the next moment I thought about all the screams of people in the city, that were still there, thousends crying for help, crying in pain, yet iam to far away to hear any of it. the music transfered that too, at least to me. this feeling of: youre far away now, youre gone from the danger, yet the chaos is still raging on, the fires are still burning.. you can't hear the bang, it's just a whimper from here.. you can't help everyone, but you might find a way to help yourself or whats left of the city, if you press on and keep going. fleeing now seems feasible, just move out of the yard, finde a car and off you go, but should you? youre close to the source as it seems.. so this moment is eighter: the calm before the storm, the short break - or your way out. Thats the moment where my head turned left and i watched out of my window, seeing a slighty thin cloudy night and a full moon, shining at me. as if the sky from the game, was the same sky that was visibile thorugh my window. it's just one moment in game, a minute in total, in an old game with 60 polygons per charackter, but this moment, dug itself deeply into my being.. a memory, thats so vivid, clear and complete, that 25 years later, it feels like it happend a year ago damn, i miss those times, beeing stunned and impressed so easiely. nowadays, everything feels so much duller compared to back then. id never thought that i would lose the ability so much as an adult. things are different when youre young and you experience them for the first time

Los Angeles, 1998... a starless night dome perpetuated by the glow of low pressure sodium vapor lamps creates an eerie backdrop as you ride in the back seat of your parents car, leaving the valley to return home. In your hand is a small plastic bag, with another plastic box inside. You lift up the box in the dimly lit car, the occasional passing streetlamp vaguely illuminating the cover art and title. RESIDENT EVIL 2. You are almost home and can't wait to play...

Every game with a lauded soundtrack has those tracks which largely go unnoticed by the majority in favour of a few select tracks which come to define the games overall. In Resident Evil 2, 'The Main Hall [of the police station], as worthy as it is, unfortunately overshadows some of the actually more substantive tracks, such as 'The Marshalling Yard'.

I've been coming back to this sound track a lot in the last few weeks. There really isn't anything like it out there, there is a real edge and desperation to the sounds and melodies. Truly amazing music for a 1998 Playstation one game. Guess they had to have something worth remarking about with the limited graphics options back then.
@DGP4068 жыл бұрын
People tend to get creative when they have to act with limited resources, and this was no different, processing power was meh and rendering each room took a week, so they had to capitalize on the atmosphere and story.
@jigglyboo87872 жыл бұрын
@@DGP406 Nothing was seen as limited then, everything was relative to the times.. which was pretty mind-blowing actually.. They weren't going to work at something w/ any more or less vigor just because they had tech or not to fall back on. They all took pride in what they did and set out to do it the best they could.. results came from passion and talent, not lack of resources

@@DGP406 very well put that is why you’ll even see more creative art design in older games, compared to the new AAA titles. What the old games lacked in realism they made up with art design that is why now you’ll see games that look very realistic, but feel claustrophobic with a bunch of UI, super realistic settings that actually have no appeal and or not vibrant
