Welcome to a new project! Project ERA is a 1990 Mini ERA Turbo. This ERA is number 51 and has covered over 262000 miles in it's lifetime and although having been previously bare shell restored is once again showing signs of it's age so the plan is to completely strip the car back to a bare shell and restore it to better than new condition. Tasteful mods already include a full stainless exhaust system, up-rated gearbox, heated front screen and modified head, what else?
In this update Mark aligns and corrects the door gaps, shows us his home spray booth setup and prepares the body for paint, applying primer.

I got to see a Red and a Green ERA the night before they went into the showrooms. My friendly Rover garage in Hamsey Green Surrey took delivery and new I would be interested, so he called me and we went there in the dark of night. It was a special part of my Mini journey which started in 1973 and I'm still at it. Keep up the good work. Kev.

Its amazing how paint brings up all the imperfections. Like the curtain did wonder how the grey bit was held up as the clear was so clear lol. I fitted and adjusted all my doors before paint then once painted and fitted up with the internals etc they didn't fit 🤦‍♂️👍👍👍

I will spray them off the car and pop rivet them on after. Less chance of corrosion if all surfaces are painted.

Would you now put filler over the primer or sand back the primer to add filler cheers , great video btw

Never never ever put filler over primer, it will never feather properly when you sand it and will almost certainly sink after a while, apart from that good videos of some tidy work.

I thought that was the case when spraying over with Cellulose but not with 2K? Neither of us are experts so still learning. The primer used is 2K.

@@classicminiworkshop It may be a cured 2k but you don't have an oven to really cure it and the primer will still be softer than the filler when sanding, filler will bond onto bare metal better, but this is just my experience, would just hate to see all your hard work spoilt 6 months down the line if you start to get shrinkage marks, all the best

@@Mr57blackbeauty Thanks, that makes complete sense. Although the workshop is not a baking oven it does have it's own heating system and is thermally insulated (Mark and his family lived in the garage while he built his house!) The underfloor heating system can maintain 90F while painting so it does help.
