Door Trick on Macy's Dover Elevator!

(with 22408Aaron) This elevator has some of the biggest doors I've ever seen! The public side doors look like your standard doors, and without going in you wouldn't expect anything out of the ordinary...

I was at a supermarket at Park City Utah and I saw this HUGE elevator. I thought it was a freight judging by its size but I realized it was both a freight and a passenger! It was about the size of this one.

It's got the Dover Indicator on the outside. This is the service/passenger elevator. It's a Dover/Kone. That's strange that the rear door that goes into the storage room on the 3rd Floor that doesn't open. Except for the door on the inside the elevator that does open. It's got Dover Fixtures & Innovation Fixtures. That's pretty interesting.

When was this installed? The 1970 Dover’s at Penney’s in southern park mall have the same sounding motor. I think those doors don’t open because the pick up rollers were removed at some point.

That thing's goofy! I've never seen one where the doors will open outside of where they're supposed to... either the programming's goofed up or someone put a door zone marker on the selector tape where it didn't belong. I've actually seen one bigger door... once... it was an enormous 3-SPEED door on an old Dover in a TV and radio studio building, probably a good 15 feet wide. The cab was shaped like the ones you'd have on a small elevator with a single sliding door, but... yeah. Not sure exactly why they built it that way.

+Theodore Pfeffer That's a definite possibility! If so, there would have had to be a sign pointing to the other another panel, for the customers to use. Another possibility is that this was the only panel at first, and both doors would open every time. Either case, it's odd that the original panel is still there while there's a modded/added in panel on the other side...

the doors move at two different speeds, so by definition it is a two-speed door

With the inner door open the elevator won’t move, if you ever pull the doors open while it’s moving the elevator will stop immediately.
