After watching every other video on KZbin it just seemed more confusing. Your video was the only one showing the actual step by step process explained in simple terms rather than trying to sound like a NASA engineer and spue out a bunch of jargon yourself didn't understand. Thanks a ton.

Thank you very much for this instrumental video. My wife and I purchased a house last month and in the hallway we could smell a burning smell and a buzzing sound in the hallway. So instead of calling in a electrician I you-tube it and found your video. So yea buzzer switch was stuck in the on position and the bell was hooked up wrong. Now I am a new subscriber to your channel.

Sir, thank you for this video. Out of all the ones I’ve watched trying to figure out my wiring system they used for our doorbell, your video was the easiest and simplest to understand. Allowed me to FINALLY get our doorbell to work again after 2 blown transformers and replacing the chime inside the house. It burned up as well. Too much to explain how it was previously wired ( had multiple wires going to the chime with no labels and none were hooked up to the old chime). Anyway, thanks a lot!

Trent, Thanks for this video, it’s quite helpful. I’m going through the troubleshooting steps and find that when I touch the wires for the button together, sometimes it initiates the chime and sometimes it squeals or just clicks. (The chime plays a song, so there’s actually a diode between the two wires as well.) I’m visiting my parents house and can’t get access to the transformer in their attic to test the voltage. Just wondering if this is enough info to tell if the issue is wiring or transformer or something else. Thanks for any info you can provide!

Can you split the wire to make 2 separate chime connections? My chime burnt out when contractor was working on front door install (but he has no idea what could have caused it; LOL) I wanted to put double chimes side by side to replace old one (increasing DBs in same location); took the wire that was existing that was connected to burnt chime and spliced 2 new wires in (all 3 reds in one wire nut and all 3 blacks in the other). I already had 30amp transformer bc I wanted to this originally but never did. Thanx in advance for the help!

First thing you realize in a new house is that the hot and cold are reversed for a sink, took me a while longer to figure out my boor bell was wired in reverse too. I really hope there isn't some other mistake of shoddy workmanship still lurking on to be discovered by fire marshals after my house has burned down.

Hey been having some trouble installing a new video door bell, i think my transformer might be not supplying enough power to it. I found a transformer in the basement by the breaker box but only the power cables are connected (black, white, ground) but no low voltage cables on the other side are connected. Bare in mind the current door bell and chime box are working so it must be getting power from somewhere. That transformer i found seems to not be in use. Any ideas of what could be happening here? Thank you!

I replaced an old system, even if I plug the transformer directly to the chime it won't go off. I think that I am getting low or not enough voltage. I only have a touch tester which gives me a low voltage reading.

Great video. I am having trouble getting increased voltage for my new Ring Pro doorbell. I was getting 11v so I installed a new transformer with multiple voltage options. After installing, the transformer shows 18.5v, but now my doorbell is getting a very low amount like 1.5v. Any idea what could be causing that? The wiring is poorly labeled but I hooked it up identical to how it was. Thanks!

I wired a new chime with the existing wire that was already there the way you explained. When I turned the breaker on it dinged once and kept humming. When I pushed the front door button it would stop humming. Anyone have any suggestions on how the person who wire the old chime might have switched wires to make this happen? It seems to have power all the time till I press the button! thanks

My wife yanked off our doorbell to wall paper she did not mark the 3 wires as to there location. I connected it by guessing. Nothing is marked as far as trans, front or rear. I purchased an Utilitech transformer (#0063548) that has three voltage settings (8V, 16V, & 24V) to replace a Nutone C905 transformer with one voltage setting (16V) for my doorbell. No matter what setting I put them on, both transformers only produce just over 4 volts when they are tested with my volt meter. I'm assuming something is screwy with the power source leading to the receptacle. Also, there's another wire leading out of the receptacle, but I have no idea what it leads too. Can you give me some advice on what possibly could be the reason why my transformers are not producing the correct voltage??? Supposedly, per the electrician who wired my townhouse, 120 volts is coming off the voltage source leading to the receptacle. He wants to charge me $120 to replace the transformer plus the cost of a new transformer. It sounds like the electrician has a real good extra moneymaking scheme going on here, especially with people who are replacing low voltage devices that require a little more voltage that the original device.

Be careful when wiring, you can have homes with a lighted house number light fixture and confuse yourself on the wiring on the transformer
