My order doesn’t have to equate to $10, but no way will I travel 9 miles for a $7 order, or 18 miles for an $8 order that DD offered me. The mileage and payout have to be profitable.

Exactly! To do otherwise is just to shoot yourself in the foot. IRS only allows a $0.56 per mile deduction, and then you have to factor in gas, oil, wear and tear, and insurance for your car. For me, it has to be at LEAST $1 per mile.

@@joeplasters8605 I get that and 6/7 dollars isn't worth declining unless the mileage is outrageous. Yeah, I caught that part. When he said that, I have to admit, I started to question his take on this matter as a whole because he doesn't even understand how to write his mileage off on his taxes, so how do I take his opinion on the matter that seriously? When taking that 5 dollar order, the mileage to the restaurant counts as well, so you're really looking at a $hitty proposition to begin with. That said, I appreciate BC for this channel, and I respectfully disagree with him here. As for taxes, as long as your driving with the intent of doing delivery, it all counts as it's all business related miles.

Wrong, according to federal tax laws, you cannot deduct the miles to a hotspot, or from your last dash to home. This is also true for W2 employees. We have no choice but to decline orders that pay less than a $1 a mile or take too long to get. Chipotle after 5:30 PM and Taco Bell after 9:00 PM have minimum 30 minute wait times in my area. Anything below that and I start to pay DoorDash, Uber etc to work for them. That's a pretty insulting way to take a loss. And I have at least one order every other day that goes wrong and that expense comes out MY time to fix THEIR problem. Even with Beans, most apartment complexes in my area are not mapped correctly. I hadn't even heard about the decline now thing. But yeah, thanks for informing us here man. It's one thing to overlook the no-tip, three dollar orders, sure, but you're right about the others. Absolutely right on how to cherry pick here. Decline what you can, but if you keep waiting for that 'perfect order', you'll be waiting so long you miss out on the so-so, and okay ones. DDash isn't about perfection. It's a messy job at times. Fast restaurants can be slow some days. Slow ones can be in and out right away. You could be just about to pick up when you get a second order, meaning you'll have to wait a bit, but it'll be worth it. Traffic of course. And so many other factors. Embrace the mess, work through it, adapt every day, and you'll all be fine! Great vid, you're totally right here. I'm about to hit my 3 thousand orders mark! The time it takes to get there, the waiting time to get the order and the time to deliver it, it’s easily half an hour to an entire hour for only 8$. I’ve done many of these on slow mornings but after getting 20x 24packs of pop in the same order that needed to be delivered on the 4th floor of a complex I gave up. Most customer don’t tip you. There are guidelines for using commuter miles. In most cases one can NOT count commuter, unless there are certain situations such as a home office used for that business. Be careful with your calculations and ask your financial professionals specifics. It is very easy to start a gig job, but many times there are a lot of things we just don't know. Like how important having a home office is to your deductions, as well as our organizational process.

I use Stride but OFTEN forget to turn on or off. I got the Door Dash tally of my miles & haven't amended Stride yet for my taxes. BUT, my days regularly end up working out to $1 per mile, as good balance out bad. So just as an example, if you made $5k, you probably drove 5k miles. If you consistently make $2 per mile, good for you, & halve that. Writing off a home office is a good tip tho. I might try that. See what my tax guy says.

@lowesan Dune it’s because the more experienced drivers realize is they’re taking the $3-$6 deliveries, when it comes time for car repairs they won’t have money for that from running it into the ground on the low paying far distance deliveries. So DoorDash needs uneducated drivers that will take whatever they throw at them, profitable or not.

I'm driving for Uber Eats because both Doordash and Grubhub aren't accepting drivers in my area. I am new, rarely decline, and make $22 / hr consistently. This is a side hustle for me as I have a regular job (for 12 years), so when I start everyday it's 4 PM. I'm fortunate to live in an area with over 350,000 people, so if I take a long delivery I just deliver my way back to my parking spot. I rarely ever get to that spot, I've always got a delivery.

As an order sits and is declined multiple times, the base pay goes up. The movement is aimed at turning orders that don't make business sense into profitable ones. My declines help other dashers. The longer the order sits the more base pay is added for the next driver. It's a lowest bidder wins system. The customers that aren't tipping need to realize that doing so will ensure timely service. Non-tip orders will get delivered after enough declines forcing DD to add base pay and make it worth our time. Many orders aren't started until a driver accepts. This is a luxury. Miles to dollar ratio matters just as well as total. All orders take time. The $3 orders don't take any less time than the $10. Averaging three orders per hour, dashers need to cover costs and make a living by setting a personal minimum. Dash like it's a business, not a hobby. Throw it back in the pool baby!

This is where everyone's market is different. I'm able to decline quite a few orders that are high mileage low paying offers, yet fulfill an order that's a low tip and low mileage, yet still clear 25 an hour. What I'm able to do, others may not in their area. There are times where I'm able to make 40 plus an hour solely on knowing how my market works, and this isn't just sitting in a spot declining 10 plus orders in a row. Its knowing how the restaurants work, who the customers are that frequently order, and what restaurants have high volume. Given that info, I'm able to work my market to at least do 3 to 4 deliveries per hour. Also, to note, restaurants have now started their own delivery services. This will impact many drivers. In my market the chick fil a that's near me is a highly efficient, high volume restaurant that moves their drive thru faster than any gridlocked freeway, fulfills carryout orders faster than amazon, and has many delivery orders. They are starting their own delivery service that will cut through 3rd party apps profits. Know your market, and adapt. Because things like this will change it

I'm not going to take a 3$ to go 10+miles one way, on top of being taken out of my delivery zone which means now I have to return to my original zone. So for 3$ to waste so much gas is not worth it ever. Let their food get cold

I’ve done the miles to pay strategy and have earned more by taking lower amounts but driving less miles. My average delivery per hour is 2-3 per hour. 1 Order could be $3.00 for virtually no miles. The other one or two within that hour range from $8.00-$10.00. Estimating my hourly earnings at $19-30 per hour. He does make some sense.

@tresuave
@tresuave 3 жыл бұрын
I would like to think it would force DD to pay better, I have doubts they will. If this is the result after customers finding out DD was using their tips to cover the base pay instead of tips being an addition to the base pay DD was supposed to pay, then I doubt it would get better. I've been in this gig economy since 2013. The absolute constant is they all have lowered the pay rates/base pay since I first started. Yes you can still make money, but it shouldn't have to be this hard compared to the beginning. Anyone with a W2 wouldn't continually accept multiple pay cuts over a several year period. We are only independent contractor when it comes to taxes. None of us including any youtuber can get these gig companies to pay what they feel is right & fair. Therefore you are not a true BOSS as its advertise. We only control logging on, accepting, declining, logging off. Every other aspect the gig companies have the utmost control. If any of us don't like things we have to live with it or stop completely. I like to use the phrase We are independent employees, at least at a w2 you commute A to B, then B to A. To each their own, I don't condone being paid $3 when I have to provide the things needed to complete the job with exception of preparing food. We all have to use strategy that works best for you to make the best $$ wherever you are and minimize as much as possible how we are all being taking advantage of. It can still be done, but once you figure out the area you work you simply can't take everything that's sent, unless all offers meet a persons requirements. Bentley doesn't do it either, I've watched a lot of his videos and he has a limit on what he will take, knows his area and executes. I also don't think its as simple as this market isn't like that market, in my market from talking to other dashers I know I'm getting throttled on the decent to really good offers I receive. I just know $13 for 19.000 miles from any high end restaurant from UE, DD or GH will get declined. I've already had to replace a car due to transmission dead at 249K miles and that was in 2020. Just take what you feel is good from any source and try it, if it works keep using it. All the things you don't like or agree with discard it temporarily because situations & perspectives have a way of changing and it may be useful later. That's my 2 cents. Wish everyone the best and most prosperous dashes.
