There must be something I'm missing here. I did the detox on Sunday and it was great. Then, starting on Monday, I've returned to the way I was before. Is a one-day detox supposed to have a deep enough effect to prevent that? If not - and I don't see how it could - then what's the procedure? Every day? Every Sunday? Also, a bit off topic but I have a question: I used the link in your "I used Marcus Autelius's Morning Routine for 28 Days" video to go to what you call the "best translation""of the Meditations but it brings up an entire page of Meditations versions at Amazon. So which one is this "best" translation? Thanks.

I watched a video on check lists and I realized a to-do list should be a check list and you check off what you have done. I also saw another video that says use a calendar that way you set a date to get it done by.

@@mekidecheyasmine7078 Very hard in the morning, I felt bored, and restless... but after only like 8 hours I could already feel more focused, I managed to read a book for 2 straight hours, and staying on the couch looking at the sky was enjoyable, not just "a waste of time IshoulDoSomethingRightNOW". I have a very junkie behaviour (kept looking at my phone even if nothing was there of course). All in all, I was sad this morning when I had to get back to it (for work and study), but I'll do it again, maybe both saturday and sunday!

Yesterday I had my detox, I chose the intermediate mode but spend most of the time meditating in my room and had a few walks outside. It was crazy how big the urge to grab my phone got during the evening. At one point, I had so many thoughts in my head that it felt like I was stoned and it gave me a small headache. After some time though I became more comfortable being with myself. It really showed me how bad dopamine addiction by doing useless things is. But I made it :)

Healthy Me Detoxing will make you realise the value of things and also give you dopamine when you do things you used to consider boring marking it more interesting, for example after a detox you will be able to follow that timetable you so badly wanted to follow more easily. If that makes sense 👍

I made it! Yesterday I did dopamine detox although it was Monday but I still wanted to give it try. I can truly say it was so effective like yesterday was the most productive day in the whole year. I completed around 90% of the scheduled time table I had prepared and it felt satisfying. Journaling at the end of the day made me realise all my surroundings and myself which I had barely noticed my whole life. I am really so proud of myself although it was particularly difficult whenever I felt the urge to be on phone I would take a walk around the house and it calmed me down. This was the best experience I ever had and thank you Andrew Kirby for this detox which made me understand my phone addiction particularly.

I literally did one day of this dopamine detox, it wasn't even a proper detox because I had to study, but everything else I stuck to and WOW. WOW. WOW. my mind is absolutely blown. I want to do this again and again and again. I have noticed my own energy is lifted! On the detox day, I was so tired by like 4pm, I could barely stand up. It was strange. I fell asleep at 7:30 (I have NEVER done this) and the next day I woke up and went for an 8km run before basically writing a whole assignment. Today I walked to and from work (10k) and tonight I set myself a deadline to have my assignment done by Saturday (like u said ahahaha although I thought of it first!) and it's not due until next Friday!! I feel in tune with your time theory. I believe I once sent a video to myself saying "how you spend your time is how you spend ur life" so i friggin get it. I also am a uni student and have legit cut everything back to bare basics, and although I found it scary, I actually have benefitted so much because now I can focus on how I want to spend my money and my time. I also want to go to full time uni next semester, and your video has given me hope that I will be able to do it!!! This is the scariest thing for me soooo wish me luck and Thank you!!!! Keep the videos coming!! Your new big fan

Being stuck at home has caused me to depend way too much on Facebook, KZbin and TV. I can feel myself getting more dependent on the little thrills of contact I have with the outside world. On one hand, it has kept me sane, but I know that as we start to reopen, I do need to retrain my brain to do hard things again and to go without immediate gratification. Also, this reminds me in my own faith and in others, we do have long period of giving up things, distractions, fasting from food, media, etc. I believe that those periods have helped me from going too far off the rails and I am grateful. So, I know that this works. I am glad I found this video series and that you are pushing me to take action and get back on the right path.

So I did the dopamine detox on Sunday, and while it was challenging, I made it through and I’m so proud of myself for that. Just after one day, I’ve noticed small changes in my behavior and my mental state that have everything to do with how much I’ve decreased the amount of time I’ve spent doing things that are distracting. Now, I’m not a completely different person, but these small changes have helped kickstart me into actively changing myself for the better. So thank you for this! I’m excited to start the next steps

I think I can speak for some people and knowingly say how hard it is to find reliable and influential KZbinrs. I’ve watched this mans videos with somewhat of a sceptical mindset (only because I have been on this dopamine reset and self development quest myself for a year now). Nonetheless, I think you bring up valid information that can be useful. Obviously you aren’t asking or telling people that they have to give up social media entirely, just to regulate and incorporate better use of your time. I think people who dislike what this man is saying and go to the extent of trying to drag other people down with their comments might need this information more than anyone. This guy is just making our lives easier by giving us information he has already researched. Doesn’t mean we have to agree with everything; it means he is giving us resources so if we feel so inclined or disagree with what he is conveying, we take that information, research it ourselves, then formulate an opinion.

Been working towards self improvement for the past year, changing diet, getting a new job, and recently starting my day early with a half hour of quietude. Now I've hit a wall, where my morning is super productive but by noon I'm just sitting there on my phone again... I think a dopamine detox is just the ticket to kickstart my next step in improvement.

I dont think i could make this lockdown bearable without dopamine inducing activities. School would take most of my day and leave little free time which i would mostly waste doing useless things, but right now i feel guilty after watching this series while playing videogames or watching youtube. Should i still try dopamine detox even tho i am definitely gonna go play videogames after it?

I completed my dopamine detox yesterday, hard mode. At first I was very bored but determined to sit there doing nothing and eating nothing. After 3 hours I realised I was extremely tired; even though I usually get 8 hours of sleep, I usually go to bed after midnight, due to computer lights etc. - I attributed the tireness to that. Fell asleep for about 3 hours and woke up feeeling like I had a hangover. I was exhausted physically and mentally and could barely move let alone do anything, so I sat in bed until about 8pm. At 8 I decided I needed to eat dinner because I felt like I was dying (even though this isn't allowed on hardmode) so I went and made a bowl of steamed vegetables with garlic and butter. Not sure what it was but my stomach absolutely rejected it, it felt like fire in my belly and I threw up the whole meal into a bag (10pm) and passed out until 3am. At 3am I woke up and tried to get to sleep while my mind raced until 6am. At 6am I decided I might as well get an early start to the day since I couldn't get to sleep again; suddenly I became overwhelmingly tired again and fell alseep until midday! Woke up feeling fine, had a little breakfast then spent the rest of the day relapsing to porn even though I had been doing really well up until this point. Overall it did not go well for me but I will try it again next week, hopefully with better results!

Hey im no expert but I think that your not supposed to sleep doring it. (Well atleast till when u usually do). I tgink that you are supposed to stay awake meditating or doing nothing. Like i said im no expert but sleeping more(or less) than you're supposed to is not good for u, it makes u more tired and it messes with your internal clock. And about eating dinner i dont think it was neccesarily a bad move, if you're not used to fasting you're bout to feel bad after not eating for so long. If anything u probably you've eaten a full meal. Im still no expert tho. I think u should search more up about fasting before doing it. So should I.

I used to kind of subconsciously do this but now I know this is a thing and I plan to tell my boyfriend to be my accountability partner. I also now have my own journal for this and set up my plan in that, I use to do this for exercise but I think doing it for just to enjoy life is much more meaningful. You put me on the right path again. Thank you.

"I need Instagram to keep up with my friends" Okay then. Unfollow all but 50-100 of your closest friends and your idols like Elon Musk or maybe a musician you look up to. No politics. No memes. Just friends and aspirations. If you still make excuses after that, then you're lying to yourself. Procrastination in general is this concept being applied to every aspect of your life. We're really good at convincing ourselves that time enjoyed equates to time well spent. Until you learn to enjoy a 50 hour work week, that statement just isnt true.

@loen2629

Time enjoyed CAN equal time spent well. I personally wouldn't want to live a life where all I allow myself to enjoy is automatically productive or resulting ins something. You ARE allowed to find pleasure in things that don't have any effective value other than enjoyment. Creating moments of relaxation and disconnect is much needed in a time like ours. We always get told to always be productive, which is stupid in my opinion. At the end of the day, being productive isn't always what makes you happier in life. Having the need to constantly be productive is just as toxic as never wanting to do anything productive at all. Every extreme is detrimental to our mentak and physical health. Finding balance is key. Pure enjoyment is not soemthing to be ignored or something to get rid of just for the sake of pseudo-productivity. Productivity should be seen as the tool to continuously improve our lifes quality and be used to create enjoyment. Productivity in itself shouldn't be the only source of enjoyment. Again, balance is needed to "live life to the fullest". Creating awesome memories often lies far off the road of purpose and productivity. I personally want to create spaces in which I allow myself to be unproductive in order to let time flow and just be present. That's where time goes by so slow yet so fast. Leisure needs productivity in order to be truly enjoyable and productivity needs leisure in order to be truly enjoyable. They both give each other purpose.

Love the idea of dopamine detox and hard reset. Thank you so much for the video series. But my biggest trouble is finding the motivation and dreaming of what I want to go after. So many personal development programs I have tried always seem to gloss over this or give general instructions. I feel like what you're describing - how you felt before - feeling let down because you know you are capable of so much more. I tried vision boards, visualizing, positive talks, affirmations (all just variations of similar stuff?), but the bottom line is I can't "see" a picture of the future that makes me want to get up and do something about or as Tony Robbins calls it a Compelling Future. I think it's a byproduct of being told what to do ever since I was a kid and not really being encouraged to go after something or innovate, but rather to fall in line, conform, blend in, not stand out, go with the crowd, etc... HOW do I get out of this??? I feel so frustrated because I feel like I can do so much and have so much to offer if I can just get over this hurdle.

I highly recommend to think about the fact that time is relative and therefore, some activities seem to be worthless to one person could be very fullfilling for another. I don't like the idea of human beings tracking down every second of their lifes, because in life it is not about how effiecient you are or how many goals you have achieved. Its about finding your own path and go it, no matter how long it may take to get there. I am not a hater, just wanted to remind you of the danger tracking your day to day life to get some kind of measurement how good or prdouctive your day was. Sometimes those things, which are not in our control are those things, which take us to places we would have never been otherwise or which brings us memories or emotions, which we would have never made or felt. Don't be a robot, be a human being and get ur asses off the computer, get out and live your life.

Watched the last three episodes in this series and had no problems agreeing with what Andrew has suggested, but this fourth episode gave me a different gut feeling (and I wouldn't describe it as a good one). I'm with you too, counting every second of your day doesn't sound wise to me. I think there are some people who are more inclined to try living the 'Rescue Time' method, but at times we can become so obsessed with getting our schedule right by staring at statistics and worrying about wasting our time that we forget to enjoy it- to see that there is more to life than just getting things done and accomplishing goals. Andrew has provided some very practical steps we can take to reset our momentum and become focused, and I would say draw upon whatever gold you can find in what he and other self-help channels suggest, but it's ultimately with time that we will figure out what works best for us. Let's not be robots :)

Thank you for saying that! I mean this series is great for someone who is actually a slob and would like to get more productive but obsessive measuring can just as well be a sign of deep depression and other worse things... Just take walks, and don't be addicted to your phone, but don't take it so seriously that you get sucked in by _this_ black hole.

I think it's about balance. Not taking the thing so seriously it starts hurting more than helping. I think a metric of some kind can be really helpful, especially if you're having trouble getting your work done. But I don't think you necessarily have to time everything you do or be too strict about that, maybe you could look at the quantity and quality of work instead. The objective is for you to see that you are indeed progressing, and keeping that momentum.

Ok. It is right that excessive tracking of time can also result to some sort of undesirable frustration or something like that. But your comments manifest that you are an organised person in your life. So ultimately this video or this series of video is not for you then. This video is for those who are completely in desperate state of mind, completely unfocussed in life because of their uncontrolled exposure to social media or sort of instant gratification methods. Bcoz those people ought to know where their time is going.

Hey Andrew, let me start off by clarifying that I am absolutely intrigued by how you are approaching this. Very interesting! Hey Andrew! I was verry intrigued and watched all the videos one after another. But you should definetely check demand and supply graph and the movements of the curves because you are saying demand increases and we see a shift of the supply curve around 7:45. Same for demand decrease. This is a basic graph in economics as you said you can easily what is wrong by googling demand increase or decrease. Cheers!

I think the better way is doing these decisions BEFORE dopamine detox. I made 'not to-do list' and 'allowed to-do list', and after that I made dopamine detox. So after 'DopeTox' I know what to focus on and what to avoid off, which activities - much easier for me. Much more safer way. Without it I lost my DopeTox progress (first try round) after week.

I did the detox on Sunday and I can arguably say it was one of the most eye opening experiences in my recent life - but I have to disagree to a certain extent on what you're promoting @3:51 (not the product, the idea) - I've kept myself plugged into podcasts and yt videos for self help and general personal improvement that you could seemingly classify as "productive" but if anything it was the biggest proponent on why I needed the detox in the first place. All I'm saying is for those who this applies to don't get caught in the cycle of being busy with things you could classify as productive but rather do things that are more meaningful with your time (as he suggests later in the video) - regardless big respect and ty for the content

I made it. I will do the dopamine detox this Sunday. This is a great channel, thank you very much for your work. I tried many things and systems to reach my goals and I got a slight improvement over the time, but nothing was as helpful as I expected it to be in the first moment. It helps committing to something and just try it, especially when you are a perfectionist like me. I often skipped something because I thought "I will be not able to make it perfectly because of X" or "This system has some weaknesses, maybe there is a better/perfect one somewhere else to find". This time it will be not like this, this time I take it serious.

What I've been looking for is an app that creates metrics for things that I'm doing off-screen. As simple as pushing a timer on when I am reading and off when I am finished. I would like to better track the healthy habits I'm doing without screens. Anyone know of one? I have searched for so long to no avail! I can only find apps that measure my screen time or just create checklists of habits. I'd just like to know how many hours I'm put into reading books, writing, cleaning, making art, meditating, cooking etc. Just knowing that I did it, like a checklist isn't enough. I'd like to know how much time I've put into my writing for example. I know I could do it manually by setting a timer and creating an excel sheet, but I'm sure there has to be an app that can provide more convenient metrics!

@@isaiahburns9926 Nope, I never have! Heck I'd program it myself or hire someone to do it if anyone was up for it.

Focus to do. It is a pomodoro timer but even if you choose only one pomodoro you can still continue until you check the task off. Simply create the projects and create tasks for them

That's the thing we have to overcome. time theorist mode is literally trying to do nothing. I did it but the only thing u could do is observe , either your thoughts or your room. I was watching mosquitoes in my room 😌😂😂😂😂

Say I’m a student, with AP exams coming up. It is extremely difficult to keep away from tech and social media when my education is centering around it, making even the beginner level seemingly unreachable. I’m also stuck with family, and not communicating with anyone is not an option, due to grades hanging on the line. Should I mindfully limit things like “phone” and “computer” instead of cutting them out? Is that a viable and effective option? I feel like this course is geared more towards those above high school level, unfortunately

I'm a student and I found it more sensible to limit the use of my phone and computer, instead of completely cutting them out. I allowed myself to use my computer to complete work, but not to watch Netflix, KZbin etc, and for my phone I avoided all social media, but continued to use apps which were productive for me. I found doing this still really effective, as it played into my goal of helping me do school work anyway. Hope this helps!

I just used minimum gadgets:where i could just work on laptop, i did on it instead of phone. Before that i wrote in my notes the thinga that i can do only on phone and the other things that i do with my phone but i could do on laptop too. It was easier for my surprise and the battery of my phone was like 80-90% at the end of the day. And i have to mention that i don't like sitting in social media in laptop so that's why i choose laptop for this is my best choice. And also if you can try to work outside where there is no net connection feels amazing where you can only just sit and concetrate or get distracted only by the nature:)
