Growing up in the 80s, my dad HATED my music. But one day while raking leaves or something, I was listening to this cassette, my dad walked by, stopped, listened, and nodded his approval at me. This is a highlight of my childhood.

I had the same case with my older brothers, they used to laugh when Bruce was singing and making fun of his singing style, but deep in them they actually digged Maiden because they're unique and they can not deny Maiden is not from the bunch band.

I was 13 or 14 and reading Dune when I heard this for the first time. I bought Piece of Mind and got to this last track, when I recognized some names and words and was like, damn, this about Dune! Grabbed my cassette multifold cover booklet and read the tiny ass lyrics. I always loved this album so much. This was my start with Maiden other than hearing Run to the Hills on the radio. Started working my way back and continued to follow them from there. Up the Irons! 🤘

Iron Maiden introduced me to many books, movies, shows that I would have probably never found out about. My favorite show they introduced me too was a 1960's series called 'The Prisoner', and a great old school sci-fi flick called 'Village Of The Damned' and 'Children Of The Damned' both from their 'Number Of The Beast' album.

Yes T!!!! Definitely have Tasha do a reaction to this, let's see she if she catches the references to the books/movie in the lyrics. We'll see how much attention she's been paying to the lyrics of Iron Maiden if she's able to put the two together! LOL. For another relatively obscure Maiden tune from Piece Of Mind......I suggest "Sun And Steel" which is often overlooked compared to the majorly well known tracks from Piece Of Mind. Although you're correct...there's really no such thing as a "Bad Iron Maiden Song"....just some are more well known than others. Give it a listen....you will not be disappointed! AND HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE DAD'S OUT THERE! As always....Peace and love from Baltimore, Md. U.S.A. !!!

this song is about the book....''DUNE''......the song was supposed to be called that....but the writer of the book ''Frank Herbert'' put a squash to that ....so Steve changed it to ''To tame a land ""....I was 20 years old when this came out and you are right.....hearing this song gave me interest to the Dune books because of Steve's lyrics....I believe Sugarhill gang started rap in '79.....plus Blondie , did ''Rapture'' before this I think......the song Liar by Megadeth is an early rap, as well.....

Iron Maiden was AMAZING in concert!! A life-size "Eddie" walked out on stage! Megadeth was awesome in person also! Almost 2hrs of just music! No stage show. The opening band was Anthrax! Have to say as far as a stage show goes my favorite was Alice Cooper! My favorite music in concert was RUSH! Especially when you realize that there's only 3 guys making this heavenly music. This album was one of my very first LPs I owned as a young kid; I was ten when this came out and I got it as an easter-gift from my godmother. Since I had no stereo with a turntable of my own, I had to use my father's - with which he gladly never had a problem. This song instantly was my absolute favorite - among the many others on this incredible album! Trying to sing along to the best of my abilities also helped me practice english before I even had regular classes in school as a 5th-grader... - the lyrics on the inlet-cover were pretty helpful, too... ;-) When great songs like this find their reactors to I always hope those guys really never heard that given song before, as nothing kicks me like people's genuine reactions to stuff...

One day when I was about 14 years old... My dad heard me listening to Revelations by iron maiden... He made a sardonic remark about how he could play all of that stuff... So I handed in my guitar and sarcastically said show me... He said okay give me some time to figure it out.... About 2 days later he admitted to me that he had no idea how to play any of that stuff.... And then pretty much every day he would bring a rolled joint into my bedroom and asked me to turn him on to music..... He was a metalhead ever since.... Up until the day you died.... It was a rare thing to see him without a Megadeth or iron maiden shirt on in his later years.... He showed me how to play in drop d tuning long before drug detuning became common... He said that he learned it from old Waylon Jennings songs.... But I was a more natural lead guitarist... I was ripping out Kirk Hemmet solos after I had only been playing a few days ..... So he and I would give each other guitar lessons...... Metal music was a great bonding experience for my father and I.... Thanks to bands like iron maiden.... Up the irons forever and ever

I've always thought "The Apparition" has some hip hop vibes to it.

I was 13 when I bought this album with my pocket money in 83. Remember my mom saying it was very dark music. Ya can't beat the good old days .

Blondie - Rapture, from 1981 is some real early rapping. Bruce never sounded to me like he was rapping in this, but he actually does some goof rapping in a b-side track called "More Tea Vicar".

If you want to hear Bruce actually rapping, check out a song called More Tea Vicar. It's hilarious.
