It’s been revealed that Americas Anti Doping Agency (USADA) has been using undercover agents/athletes to spy on team mates that dope. The World governing body (WADA) has come out to say that it does not support these actions. Anthony and Sarah discuss this plus loads more listener questions!
The podcast wouldn't be possible without our amazing sponsors:

I disagree with you people once again. To be clear, I am someone who raced clean in a dirty era and who has exactly zero respect for cheaters. To all clean racers, Travis is a hero. So he made a deal with a known cheater to expose more dirty cheats? You have a problem with this? What is the matter with you? My coach Ted Smith, an actual Champion racer and human being, is quoted in 'The Quotable Cyclist' book with one of his gems: "No excuses". There is NO EXCUSE for cheating. Another of his brilliant and true quotes is: A real Champion never cheats and a cheat is never a real Champion. Figure it out!

no, you are wrong. I don't doubt Travis' intentions, but if they really did this, they put their daily labour over clean sport and have become doping promoters themselves. You are against doping or you are not - if you allow some athletes to compete doped to catch other dopers you have created two ranges of dopers, "your" dopers, who are "the good ones", and the dopers outside, who are the bad ones. And then you have lost every ground to fight doping and you are like Chinese or Russian officials. As you said: a real champion NEVER cheats - that is also true for those working for USADA. If we allow this to happen we will a few years from now have a similar doping scandal like the Armstrong case, at some point we will learn that numerous wins have been achieved by dopers (who have been allowed to do so to catch other dopers). It will not protect clean athletes, it will make their situation even worse

@@fiddleronthebike , you are wrong. Catching dopers is only good for the sport. To eradicate cheaters, you have to be sneaky. End of story. Nobody is going to come clean and share the secrets voluntarily, so like catching a mafia Don, ya need rats. USADA had ONE rat, not a dozen of them. There are still those out there who'd contend "Lance should get to keep his titles because everybody was doping" . Those people are idiots. Lance is in no way shape or form a Champion and neither is ANY rider who cheated. Eradicating doping is an admirable goal and doing a deal with the known / caught red handed criminal is a proven way to catch more criminals. As an emphatically clean athlete, I am very grateful to have Travis on my side and we need more people with an actual backbone, principles, and the courage to follow them. And that man is Travis Tygart. Figure it out!

@@nytrocircus catching dopers through tolerating dopers is NOT good. Not only is it morally questionable, but it does not lead to less dopers but to even more dopers! If you are such a person who is considering doping, you then maybe have another backdoor: if you are tested positive you then can escape the deserved penalty by agreeing to work for the agency. FOR SURE such behavior doesn't make sport cleaner, it makes things even worse
@nytrocircus
@nytrocircus 2 ай бұрын
Please show me how your statement: ' morally questionable, but it does not lead to less dopers but to even more dopers! ' is even remotely true. You assert that Travis's one time use tactic is now some sort of policy, which it is not and you should understand this important reality. I am all for justice and just like taking down mobsters using sneaky unexpected tactics, taking down cheating racers using sneaky tactics is wholly justified even if you correctly assert that lying in every day life is immoral. It is. But ask ANY doper the question: "are you doping?" and they will ALL answer "no". So aside from your selective outrage at dopers being caught using sneaky methods, what is your actual solution for eradicating cheaters from our amazing sport?

4:40 some athletes do receive preferential treatment regardless of doping that is how it is in the whole world with everything, yes they may have been working for it or deserve it but not all of them are. If you are family or friend of someone who is really good athlete you will get preferential treatment and it is not fair because you got it just because you are close to that person not because you deserve it, that is the case in all sports and economy and life in general.

Why aren't time penaltiee a minimum of 20 seconds but can be increased if riders benefit for longer? The whole point is to deter cheating so the penalty negates the advantage. If someone is drafting their car a minute behind the peloton then they should loose at least 1 minutes. If not double that given they might not even have made it back without car support. Cycling needs to change. I'm over the cheating like this. Blatant cheating that isnt true to what the race should be. Sticky bottles, drafting can all be negated all riders have to have front cameras, they are submitted after the race and AI scans through the footage and deducts any time behind a car. Simple. I'm sure it can even work out weaving through a motorcade and not deduct that time. Or at least flag situations to be reviewed. Bottles should be on a stick that they slide off backwards so you can't hold on for any rest. Especially when it's a rider that's already fallen off the back of a peloton or break

Well I think one important thing to set the background for this is that the current system does not work and is hardly efficacious at catching athletes who use PEDs. When viewed through that lens it does change things somewhat. In other words the trust in the system is already so low amongst most professional athletes that it’s almost an irrelevant issue

Yes I’m ambivalent about the undercover riders. Illegal drug use is a dirty underground activity. Law enforcement can’t be too precious if they are going to be effective in exposing the perpetrators. I think there has to be a compromise of the moral high ground if someone is going to be an effective undercover operative. How could an undercover rider gather evidence against dopers if they weren’t using PED’s themselves?

The tdf is over and again many of the riders are back in the saddle either in poland north of norway and spain..With big business sponsoring sports they all want to shine...All of them are on

I completely disagree with your position on informants, with the caveat that the informants are not allowed to win any of the events they compete it for a period of time. Also to clarify why I oppose your position - why wouldn’t we try everything to catch dopers? If you want fair and clean competition, why wouldn’t you find any way possible to ensure it?
