In this video I make a few Dopp kits in embossed leather to experiment and learn! I used the Weaver 303 and the 205 sewing machines!

I used to fall asleep to your videos when you were just a pair of hands, no music, just timelapse content. I was just a kid then, I found you interesting because I was building boats. I've been your fan for 9 years now. Crazy how time flies. I was 14, now I'm 23! Edit: wow thats crazy, what are the chances I thought of you 30 mins after you uploaded a video of 2 weeks of no content 😅 that's some pretty witchy stuff 🧙🧹 Next video: authentic witches broom lol Edit again: after further irestagation, I've found that Diresta has never just been a pair of hands, nor have they ever been just timelapse content 😅😳 I just used to watch them from a console and the KZbin that I was using at that time didn't have filters options for me to view older content, so I guess I just happened to watch videos In the style described. Regardless it's pretty badass and definitely influenced my creativity novice wise 🤗

9/9/24..2day leather 'Dopp kit' (travel & shaving bag)...another fine video Jimmy!👍⚙️ Much enjoy your overall style..intro of 'what' & materials with brief comments then Fast Forward (very fast!) to 'making' with frequent 'normal' intervals with relevant comments then FF, then normal & comments & so on until the finished product(s) with closing talk & encouragement. Oh...emphasis on yur Weaver 303 machine was later changed...to another (more heavy duty) 203..?..so thanks for this honest process of making a very nice travel shave bag. A+👍👍💪 Stay safe & carry on..👍👨‍🔧🍺😊

Always enjoy the leather videos. I've got a cloth version of this where the top goes out wider with the sipper, but you can button it down the the same shape as what you made if that makes sense. It lets you get full access to the insides.

Hi Jimmy. The bags came out beautiful! At first, I didn't really like the embossed leather and thought it looked too busy but on the finished bags, I think it looks great. The liner is a nice touch and contrasts nicely with the leather!

One thing that’s cool to address the restricted access opening is using 2 zippers that are parallel on the edges of the bag, (instead of one down the middle) with a string / rope / strap in between that you pull to open both at once.

Agreed, the leather itself is the center piece of the product, blemishes made by myself instantly equal discount or start over. I bought a Cobra Class 4 machine and sold it less than 2 years later and only hand stitch now because of the marks left by that machine. If the tool makes the product worse, I don't want it! But also very hard to mass produce hand stitched items without employees.

Jimmy, I agree with your opinoin of this style of Dopp kit zipper. The Dopp kit that I have had for 40 years is made like an old timey Doctor's bag, with a zipper in the hinged opening instead of a clasp. This works a lot better, in my opinion.

A suggestion for the lining: Consider using a waterproof fabric that can be wiped with a damp cloth, e.g., ripstop waterproof nylon. It would protect both the interior and exterior of the bag from becoming stained by spills or leaking toiletry containers.

I have a similar bag I keep my clippers in. It has a double zipper on each side tied together by a handle. A Velcro on the end keeps it sealed. That way the whole top of the bag peels away open like a banana. Easy access to everything inside.

Mr. Diresra, maybe after you fold over and glue the sides, you complete the bag as you did and then saddle stitch across the sides where you glued it in place because you already had the stitches there. Love watching your videos. ❤

I had a duffel bag with the same basic shape as your dopp kit. Instead of one zipper down the middle, it had two parallel zippers on the top that created a wide pull back panel so it was easier to get into it.

Suggestion on sewing the side: before you sew the folded edge, sew the zipper add than the handle and tab and with the bag leather side out. than you can open the zipper and sew the folded edge to the zipper edge with the two lines of stitching (you could probably glue it first) than flip it so the fleece side is out and sew the sides.

Try lengthening the zipper and the zipper leather to go all the way down the sides. If you keep it in the middle the case will clam shell. Move it to the side and it becomes a lid. Don't know if that will fix the rivet issue but you will get better access to the inside of the finished bag.

Im not a sewing expert, especially with leather but i feel like the only way to stitch up the seams that you glued would be to do only a single stitch first, reverse it to its "final" shape and then do the 2nd line of stitching with the inner section already tucked in place. This way you still visually have the clean double line but its also properly secured with thread. Otherwise, i do think that 2 simple brass rivets to go with the zipper are perfectly fine too. They add a bit of color and texture to the overall body.

And idea: If you don't create a folded hem for the zip ends, but instead sew those ends together, you won't need to glue... 4 vertical corners--and the bind the raw edges with skived down leather for a clean interior. (Though I have a post bed machine, which makes some steps for this type of bag relatively easier...).

Make some leather waist bags! I've been looking for ones with a more vertical length as they are more comfortable and get in the way less. I have found very few. I want to store oblong items in them like my huge phone, but also tools - but not too big. Basically nothing wants to be stored horizontally. I prefer that they hang a little below the waist belt as they don't interfere with jackets and sweaters as much, making them feel less intrusive. I have made one myself that I absolutely love (by combining two existing bags), but I want to make a cohesive item in leather. Also, stay away from square shapes, it should be rounded or the edges will become annoying.
