I was thinking about time I wasted when I was younger and how I wasted my 20s. Here's what I would do different if I could do it all over again!

Have you tried doing stupid things? Quitting everything stupid is boring. Keep it under control and don't regret if you "waste" time having fun. Looking back, every stupid (or smart) action, habit and decision made me the person I am today. I'm happy I did what I did. All of those "I wasted my 20s partying" videos just create regret which is based on the assumption that fun is waste of time. I enjoy a philosophy like in the taoist story "Sai weng shi ma" where the farmer never sees things as good or bad. They just happen and whether they turn out to be good or bad no one will know. You could go out to a party, have a huge hangover and prevent being killed in an accident the next day because you vomit instead of crossing a busy street.

Go outside, walk around until you find an area of woodland that nobody ever goes to. It will be hard to find such a place, but once you find that - Collect up fallen branches and build yourself a secret hideout. Once you've built it, camp out there. All that 'being productive' crap won't make you happier. Having adventures will.

I treat gaming as a reward mechanism, I make sure it doesn't effect my productivity and it has been good so far. Gaming becomes a problem when you replace the time you spend with your loved ones, taking care of yourself, hygiene and work. Other than that it's fine to me

Marrying the wrong person in my 20s was the worst/best thing ever happened to me. Worst: Got financially and mentally destroyed. I had to start over just because "she didn't felt the chemistry" but got entitled to half my net worth after divorce and I'm still paying alimony and i didn't thankfully had kids with her. But it was the best thing that happened to me since it brought a man that is no longer afraid to risk and push for greatness. You lose everything you so hard worked for but it makes you sink or swim and trust no one!! I recovered half of my lost net worth in 4 years and still growing!

Some things are the opposite with me. Video games for me were never a waist of time. Video games is what inspired me to be a programmer, it reduced stress, and it made me more creative. I wanted to learn how to make video games. So, it's what inspired me to learn math, programming and logic that which help me through college. Heck, video game music is what inspired me to learn music. I play 4+ instruments and compose!!! It also inspired me to MAKE games which made me look like superman from through grad school. I remember alongside turning in a paper one of my grad school classes and explaining the paper, I made a video game as my presentation. Instead of having to read through a big stack and explain it, we just played the game in class, had fun and got an A. This is just one of many things I've done that traces back to video games. It's one of those things that I used to my advantage. So, if one plays video game responsibly and is prudent with it, then games don't have to be a waist of time.

I like the overall message but would like to offer a counter point. In my high school and early adult years there was nothing but time and I absolutely spent my time and money on useless, destructive things, but I think that is the EXACT RIGHT time to do those things. I am glad I spend 4+ hours a day playing DOTA, or hours getting immersed in RPGs like the Witcher, or even watching bad TV shows in the background while eating garbage processed food. Right now this would be physically impossible to do, so I am glad I got to "waste my time and fail a bunch" back when energy, motivation and time was cheap. Would it have been better to learning to code, investing in Bitcoin, and buying property (at like 16). Theoretically yes, but that's not living. I agree 100% that entertainment and social media is a waste of time, and you can entertain yourself in productive way. Still, there is a time and place even for that.

I don’t get the hate on video games it’s honestly like therapy after a long exhausting day …I workout , have a good circle of friends , and probably could make more money but I know I’ll get there eventually … I think as long as you got those in check there should be not guilt associated with playing games

Eh, I don't tend to regret a lot of things or assume that I'd listen to myself if I went back in time primarily because I was in a different headspace at the time. The things I tend to regret are the decisions I didn't come to my own conclusion to make, or decisions where I was misinformed. There are things I wish that I know about myself now that I wish I had known sooner, however there are also some things that if I had learned about myself sooner that I think would've changed my current thought process now. I do believe somewhat that being exposed to struggles very early on is the best outcome that you can wish for yourself as I get older primarily because I realize that being exposed to challenges later on in life that you are not prepared for when you're older can be more detrimental to recover from as opposed to when you're younger. I've seen the later play out for my siblings and my parents, and the things I've realized is that it is damn near impossible to convince someone to change the older they get no matter how detrimental their current mindset it. The other thing I've realized as well is the older that you get, the less sympathy you'll get later on in life for making those mistakes.

As a 20 years old I wasted my teenage years, since I was 13 to 19 I didn't improve myself, I was addicted to games and other things. I got lot of opportunities and left it like it has no value until I was 19. I realize that I need to improve myself by fighting bad habits and changing it to good ones. My parents bought me guitar and drawing or sketch pad specially books to gather knowlege, I didn't do that as a teen but realize it in my 19 yrs old self and today. So I gather information in your videos dorian and other self improvement channels. It helps but need more actions to put so that I could achieve being the best version of myself. To all out there improving yourself, I hope you get your best self in the future👍

Dorian I completely agree with everything you stated I experience it or thought it.ill be 32 in a week,I too regret doing the exact same things you mentioned.except alcohol/drug use and partying never had issues with those, but I did battle depression in my mid twenties.its crazy we share the same thought process I too feel like I'm trying to catch up for lost time and felt stagnant. The dead end job one was so easy to fall into especially if it's a job you kinda like.i also wish I just tried stuff and not procrastinate.i would've made better progress even if I tried stuff and failed at them all rather not try at all.on the bright side I'm now learning digital marketing 😊

This resonates so much for me. I had the same issue with video games in my 20s and it took until my mid 30s to realize just how much time I had wasted. I still play video games, but have a much healthier relationship with them now. I would also add to your dead end jobs points; While some jobs might not be "dead ends", you can stay in them too long and get too comfortable. If you're in a "good job" but it isn't bringing you any joy or fulfillment, take a hard look at it and make a decision to work toward something new. The worst decision is indecision. Enjoy your content Dorian! :)

Having fun and doing anything that brings you joy at any age is never a waste of time. Pointlessly slaving away in a job that you hate is absolutely a waste of your life. Life is not always about productivity and gain. It's more important to enjoy the moments as they pass. Nobody cares where you end up in life. Enjoy your life. Always do what you want.

Wasted how ? This life came with no instructions on what you should achieve before you die , that's all in your head and the expectations you set for yourself . Nothing will ever quench the thirst , it's always the next big thing we want or need to have and we wont be satisfied till we get it . That's why the world is how it is now , people are told nothing is good enough if better can be done and we all live in collective depression deep down and put on a show for everyone when we go out. What a sad reality we live in .

I got a B A last year, tech Industry still rough. They seem not to hire entry level. Your best beat is to do volunteer work, build a few projects for a client. Once you have built a project or two apply so you can get exprience. If you do go to school, make sure you get an internship. I was not able to so I have to build projects. In the mean time, I will contine to work on a game to sell. I might even consider building other Software to sell besides games. I wish you luck.
