Part exed my CB500X for a NX500 in January this year. I have taken the NX500 from England to Marrakech in Morocco and back (4,485 Miles). Its a great confidence building bike, very easy to handle and to move through traffic. Will sit on the motorway (Freeway ) at 75MPH all day long. Relatively low cost price compared to a Transalp . Its not a rocket ship but after a trip last week with a BMW 800 and 1250 it managed very well, especially on the small narrow lanes in Wales. I have added a WRS tall windscreen as I am 6'1" tall and just ordered a Seat Concepts replacement as the Honda one is built to a price! Good bike and if you're on your own in a foreign country, you're pleased that you have the reassurance of Honda reliability.

@@jthelakes147 could you touch on differences between the two please bro?
@jthelakes1473 ай бұрын
@@robertb7643 No problem. As you said in your review the principal differences are cosmetic. You get a new look with a more Transalp type front end but the rear is the same. The new dash is a long overdue improvement, which is is easier to read but I still ask myself 'why don't they put in bigger screens with android auto or apple car play', as if motorcycle development is stuck in a slow lane. The engine is roughly the same but pulls slightly better from low revs, as I guess they remapped it. They say the suspension was worked on and improved, but in reality it's much the same as the CB500X and has a tendency to 'see saw' on undulating roads. The most attractive fact is a price of £6800 in the UK. It's a lot of bike for 30% less than a Transalp and it has tubeless tyres! Caveat all my views with the fact that I use the NX on road as I have a CRF300 Rally for off road use. If you have a CB500X, I would query the expense of buying the new NX500 unless you are due a change. If you are wanting to get back or into motorcycling this bike ticks a lot of boxes.

Had my NX500 since June when they got released finally to West Coast BC, Canada. Love riding this and it's my first bike after finishing my MSF Course and getting my license. I agree with the sentiment it's a perfect starter commuter adventure bike, not too tall, not too heavy, smooth, easy clutch and throttle control and can handle the highway fairly confidently. This is the reason why I invested in my first bike with Honda and spent a little more upfront to hold onto this at least a few years rather than upgrading to a larger CC machine once you get past the first year riding blahs. Won't be selling this thing for a long while. You don't get a lot of Bells & Whistles with the new TFT and we don't have access to the Honda Road Sync app function up here just yet (tied up in country specific legal approvals I'm told by Honda Reps) but who cars, the Road Sync App is pretty basic and you get more out of a simple cheap GPS or even a Carplay based unit like I'm using.

Recently watched an older rider, clearly fairly new, struggle with his Africa Twin. Didn't look like fun. Someone once said it is a lot more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow, and that is so true. My next bike will likely be at most a 450 or 500, maybe even smaller depending on what's coming out at that time. Determine what kind of riding you want to do and get out there and have fun.

I was hesitant to watch this as I bought an NX500 a couple of months ago. Glad you like it - I really like it. I had a '17 CB500X which was OK. NX500 much better. I'm 6'3 and it was a bit cramped. I'm 20 minutes from Seat Concepts and they built me a "comfort rally" seat which is almost 2 inches taller and flattens out so you can scooch around without the passenger hump. I'm actually using it as a mini tourer and routinely go 300mi on a tank. What I like - comfort, fuel economy (range), very easy to ride. What I don't like - it seems as if Honda is not too interested in US sales. EU gets new bikes 9-12 months before US, we can have any color we want as long as it is black (Ford?) and the Honda branded accessories are way behind - even the web site to shop is broken half the time. My hands so go numb after 2 hours but I usually stop every 90 minutes or so. I've rambled. Bottom line if you want to go fast or go hard off-road, don't buy this bike. If you like to go slow'ish over backroads and mountain passes (like Idaho City to Sun Valley) with an occasional maintained dirt road to explore abandoned gold mines and ghost towns, definitely consider this bike.

Just ask yourself, Do you want a lightweight ADV bike, or a dual sport. That should help your decision making a lot. The only reason I say that is the Rally is more of a dual sport than an ADV bike, I don’t care what others say. I own a Rally and a 300l and there is nothing I can do on one, that I can’t do on the other. And once you work out the Suspension on the Rally, you sit high and tall like on a dirt bike, opposed to sitting down in an ADV bike. And when it comes to picking them up off the ground, the Rally is the lightest bike you mentioned. I spend 85% of my time off road, so long distance HWY rides is not something I do anymore. But if it was, I’d probably trade one of my bikes in for one of the others you mentioned. Good luck.

This is close to what I’m longing for. I would love to see Honda make a 450 version of the Rally (with a better suspension, of course).
@Tony-zp8xn3 ай бұрын
Honda does make a 450 Rally... just not for the consumer. They are raced by the HRC Team for the Dakar Rally. It's based on the 450x, but has modifications, like a larger fuel tank, rally tower, and a longer swingarm to help stability.

I'm short and light, but experienced. Been considering both bikes, but I also want more power than these offer. Feel like I'm in hell. I want a big little bike, and they don't seem to exist. I've already got a full size bagger on the way. The Africa Twin is just too big for my liking. Might just keep the CRF250L and mod the crap out of it to get more power. Good videos! Maybe after I sort things, a ride is in order. I'm in P-Town.

for an 'ADV' bike you should look at the rieju aventura 500 - same engine, adjustable kyb front and rear , 21/18 wheelset that are tubeless as stock, crash bars aluminium handguards, so on and so on - same damn price over here .... this is a wicked city bike, easy tourer etc, it ends there please don't fool yourselves into thinking this is a good all rounder when better are available

I wish I could slip inside the minds of Honda’s engineers for just one day, to try and understand their objectives. It’s like they ease drop on their customers, to get an understanding of exactly what it is we want, and then they go and put together a percentage of that, to make sure that we don’t get it all. Almost every single time. So many bikes, so close, yet so far from perfect. Might I add, In my opinion, a 250l or something equivalent is a better first bike for those people who think they want to experience off roading. Unless you grew up riding dirt bikes, in which case that step may not be necessary.

I got this bike in July and discovered that it does not have Roadsync. It has been disabled in North America due to licensing issues. Bluetooth is not in the settings menu at all. Besides that, it's been an awesome bike. If anyone knows how to enable Bluetooth please post.

What's crazy to me is that NX500 offers power per value more than the TransAlp does!
@fernandodelangel41802 ай бұрын
I currently ride a Honda XR250 Tornado (the Mexican version of the CRF250L). I've been thinking about upgrading to a Honda Transalp, but I'm wondering if that's too big of a jump. Maybe I should consider the NX500 as a stepping stone - it looks like a really sweet ride.

Personally, I’m not a person that enjoys more tech and I think bikes are becoming a bit bloated with software. Mechanically, it’s the same as the late CB500x. It’s a 500 not a snarling V4 Multistrada, there was no reason to add traction control, I see that feature as bloatware. Nothing wrong with the CB500x screen, it works well. I ran the SM500 with my wife’s 2023 CB500x and even made Guardrail Trail with it. On-road it is stupid easy to ride, off-road it does well, just wish it had a bit more ground clearance. Never had an issue with water crossings. It’s not fast out west, but it is fast in Appalachia.

A huge missed opportunity by Honda, this bike should have been a competitor for the CF Moto 450 MT or Himi 450. I know you typically ride these bikes in stock form, but the rear shock on the CB500X/NX500 sucks for anyone over 200 lbs which doesn't help with first impression riding the bike off-road. If you get a chance, try one with an upgraded rear shock. It won't do anything for the ground clearance concerns, but otherwise it turns the bike into a good ADV choice for casual off road riders

I was hoping that the upgrade to this bike was putting a 270 degree crank in the motor, but to my chagrin, nah! The 180 crank is just too buzzy for my carpal tunnel syndrome. I nearly pulled the trigger on a cb 500 x back in 2020, but I'm glad I didn't. Why is it that my old Honda Hawk GT and my SV 650 has never enflamed my carpal tunnel, but my cb 599 did? Because the Hawk Gt and SV are v-twin maybe? I was hoping a 270 degree crank would solve my problem but I have yet to ride a bike with that set up.

270° crank would be better, for the sound and feel.

@Tennessee9683 ай бұрын
Wish they would make a 400 or 500 Versys. I skipped the small Kawasaki ADV bike for a street Z400 due to the lack of power. I commute mostly but would love to do dirt and gravel roads and motocamping. Best wishes to you.

I was looking at buy in the 300 verses. And then I found the CB 500 X. I'm glad I went with the Honda. It's a lot smoother when you're going 70 on the highway. It's not gonna buzz So bad. The only thing Ĺacking is I probably don't get the gas mileage you do. But 65mpg is good enough for me.

@@Tennessee968 Found a '22 CB (in green) this last spring, "used," with 230 miles on it. I agree, and much prefer the looks of the CB to the new NX. I was originally a little bummed about the lack of a TFT display, but on full brightness the classic LCD does just fine, even in direct sunlight, and is much easier to read at a glance than the new screen.
