Great video. You are so right about the mind-set for smaller capacity bikes. I have the Honda Rebel 500 and tour on it too. Recently in Scotland, and making plans to go to Europe (Spain) as well. Just means getting the set up right. Comfy seat, good waterproof luggage and gear!
@fuglbirdАй бұрын
The rebel should be great for that. My girlfriend and I went on a three week camping trip from Denmark to Monaco on my Suzuki GT550 in 1979. No problems except halfway carburetor adjustments and a high speed front wheel puncture on the Autoroute on our way back. 500 cm³ is more than sufficient for touring. Enjoy your trip to Spain!

1st stop when it doesn't start like that is the battery terminals. I had the same problem going up the bumpy Hardknott Pass, the bike stuttered and stopped. Got it going again and got home, and it was just a loose terminal. As for the seat, I had a local upholsterer to just scallop a bit of foam out making the seat more level instead of the slight forward slope. It changed the bike immeasurably, even made the handling better, lowering the centre of gravity.

Oh! So you bought one! I’m glad. In my case I think I’ll go with Black Widow exhaust, my friends have the older CB500X, basically the same as the NX as you well know, and they sound awesome. And they’re quite a bargain. I did have a look at the Fuel like you’re having but it’ll come quite expensive for me since I’m not living in the UK. I haven’t got my NX yet, but I’ve already got a radiator cover for it. Mine is ordered with some extras like the extra lights, crash bars and heated grips. I’m adding a CarPlay unit which I’ve already have and contrary to you will be changing the tires to more road oriented ones as I don’t go off-road. I’m most probably going for the Michelin Power 6, a bit overkill I know but there’s not much with that 19” front.

I feel your pain, I bought the 500 Hornet from P&H and booked the running in service when I picked it up as I do 600 miles commuting in 3 weeks. I liked the NX, when I test rode it I preferred the Hornet though I had to convince myself it was a better for my use case, especially after the V Strom I had previously which put me off tall adventure type bikes (I also got a lot of buffering on the NX and am only 5' 7") Have put handguards on mine, a fender extender at the front (the Hornet mudguard is ridiculously short at the front) and a hugger at the back, plus crash bungs from Powerbronze. Proper commuter now, just need to put a 16T front sprocket on to improve the MPG a bit.

I’ve just bought a pair of rackless soft panniers, each hold 26L, and what they call a pannier bag, which goes on the rear rack or back seat, which is another 30L, from a brand called Rhinowalk. It’s also modular so you can add extra if needed. Great value for money, look like they’ll take a beating, and I’m currently watching an Aussie guy on KZbin called Joe Ryan who uses this luggage brand on his tour of New Zealand, mostly off road, on a RE Scram 411. Honda has come out with their sport variant Africa twin with the 19 inch front wheel. A little less of a beast. Was that an option for you before you bought the 500? Cruise control is kind of a big deal if you’re touring.

And africatwin with a 19” would never be an option .. that’s why I didn’t get one ..

I wouldn't spend too much on it. I have a feeling it won't last. There'll be an Africa Twin in your garage before long 😬

IDK what these brands think about us Americans. Everything they offer us only comes in black. NX500 and the Transalp. No go for me. C'mon Honda!

The annoying CB1000R is the prime example, that they really don't care.

It started with Henry Ford, he sold the model T in black only. Americans must prefer black.

Yep. I bought a KTM because it was the only one I could get that was visible to other road users. Motorcycles are invisible enough without painting them like spy planes.

It's a barely a rehashed CB500X. We want the CFMOTO 450 MT(Ibex here in the states) Honda isn't making anything close to that bike.
