I worked with Miss Loudon in the mid-80s when she graciously donated her talent to appear in a benefit performance for the Off-Broadway L.O.O.M. (Light Opera of Manhattan) at Playhouse 91 in New York. She was a delight in person - as bright and bubbly and as funny and friendly as you think she would be from seeing her on stage. ❤

It was one of the best musical comedy performances I ever saw. She did so much to win! Little nuances in the sexy comedy she gave, and the "I hate Annie asides."It was a fresh, true book musical at a time when Broadway was kind of dark. Hard to believe it was almost 40 years ago.

@Mark Raphaelson I can’t see Andrea near her in the audience. Where is she? I see someone with reddish curly hair in a blue dress but Andrea’s hair is not naturally curly and wore a wig on stage. She put the wig on backstage toward the end of the Annie performance but I doubt she went back out into the audience with it on? Maybe she did. I do think she should have acknowledged her during her speech as a co-nominee. Maybe she was caught up in the moment. Andrea says she loved Dorothy and even though Dorothy didn’t like children very much, they got along.

@nondescript No one’s denying how deserving she was of the award, her success, & her moment, nor suggesting she thank “a bunch of kids”. Andrea McArdle was not just one of “a bunch of kids”. She played the main character of the show. She was the lead. The show is called “Annie”, remember? It’s not called “Miss Hannigan”. McArdle was one of the reasons the show was a hit, according to the producing team. “As soon as she took over the role, the entire context of the show changed” according to Martin Charnin. She was Dorothy’s co-star, the relationship between their two characters playing an important factor in the plot. No one heard Dorothy on pop radio in 1977. They heard Andrea signing “Tomorrow”, drawing interest and ticket sales to the show that helped pull Dorothy and her great talents out of her history of flops. Also, Andrea was Dorothy’s CO-NOMINEE for this award. And the two reportedly got along well during the show. It seems disrespectful and a significant oversight for her to not at least give the young lady a quick mention. But she deserves the benefit of the doubt that she was caught up in her moment, she’s obviously overwhelmed and at 2:56 asks the crowd to remind her who to thank.
