Great video, fantastic breakdown of the tactical intention as well as the goal and challenges for this type of play. If done successfully, can go from back 3 to goal very quickly!

Thanks for that demonstration. We will try to implement that build-up pattern in our club :)

Nice analysis. It seems that these patterns result in a lot of buildup being done on the flanks. IMO, I feel this is somewhat limiting, because we would always run out of space. Plus, esthetically, (again IMO) it doesn't result in as nice football, as when you have good interplay centered around clever central midfielders. I do remember that Tuchel loved to build up from the flanks. And that has somewhat continued after him. But today, we have Dahoud and Brandt, and they should be used to build from the center, unlike what Favre and Terzic have been mostly doing.

Weird video. Great analysis of their phase of play but no way Rode can take the touch forward there. He's got a man closing him down instantly

Good vid but, you are wrong about his first touch. A player should go forward once he recognizes that there is a good option to play forward, and in the clips you showed there wasnt a player with a good amount of space to play the ball to, so the best option is to pass the ball back to switch the point of the attack to the other side where the might be more space.

Sizzlechild agreed. One way to solve that is by Rode getting deeper initially, so he will have more time and space.... making the opponent make a choice sooner, and perhaps giving more room to players behind.

Yeah OP kinda addressed that in the next section of the video by showing that forward players were not making runs to hold back the defensive line. It almost seemed like he was looking down the field searching for "triggers" that tell him to make a forward pass, but since he didn't see any forward players making runs he instead played the ball safe to keep possession. Good point about switching the point of attack. I wonder if we were watching the game instead of clips if thats what we would have seen.

Rode 1. Positioning is correct but 2. The moment he arrived was too early which allowed the Opposition Left sided midfielder to close down on his first touch as the ball travelled so in return he had to go the other way.

Players need to have a better 1st touch skills to play the ball forward if he falls deep to collect the ball on the sides.

My Friend what you are showing as a Salida Lavolpiana is a bit inaccurate.. Ricardo Lavolpe who is the Coach that this stems from Played with 3central defenders and 2wingbacks What you are describing as Salida Lavolpiana is Peps upgrade to it with 4backs He learned it when playing in Mexico
