30+ years later, and the Soundtrack still sounds amazing.

there is no actual antialiasing when they speak, this really makes their movement wierd since there aren't enough pixels to work with.

I played this game but never beat it. The last thing I remember was a secret room. To me it's a fascinating adventure game but every dos game website categorize it as a RTS... I always wonder if there's any new mechanic later in the game

There is - the final phase of the game is a full on RTS (albeit a very different kind from classic rules established in Dune 2). This is also one of the rare breed of realtime narrative games where world time progresses regardless of how you play the adventure, so there's a dynamic element to how each playthrough plays out.

I played it when I was younger and beat it (ones). Later in the game when you get the spice harvesting up so that you dont have to worry about missing the shipments to Emperor and find more Tribes. You will start finding stashes (kriss knives, wearding modules, atomics) of weapons or tribes trainend in combat then you can train other tribes and build op you forces. Training takes time and they will improve gradually. Then you can start attacking to Harkonnen fortresses you can also join to attacking forces and give some command (I never found out if that was really useful but you can order the use of atomics) but if your attack force or defending forces loses you die "game over". The Fremen Tribes have a number of people and when you use them in fighting some will die but the rest will gain experience (training increased experience) so at some point a "elite" tribe have a low number of soldiers armed to the teeth with kriss knives wearding modules an atomics can still defeat a much larger enemy force. When taking a fortress sometimes there is a prisoner you can interrogate and he might give you the location of an other fortress (so you dont have to search the desert). Ones you conquered a fortresses the Fremen will covert it in to a sitch. The Harkonnen will also attack your sitches so best the keep garrisons. Slowly you would be moving up north to the Enemy Palace. Later in the game spice harvesting becomes less important and after finding wind stil you can train some Fremen Tribes to do terrafroming turning Dune green. But spice production in those regions will stop permanently. I was quite complex game with much more depth then Dune 2. With a good mix of adventure and strategy in ways very much ahead of its time and there has never been made anything like it. PS: It was almost not made. The producer of the game decided to stop development but the never told the developers of the game so they just kept on making the game until it was done.

There was some small RTS or rather turn-based element in the game.
