1993 for the PC CD-ROM version with english voiceover and prerendered cinematics. 1992 for the PC 3.5" Floppies version and the Amiga version. 1994 for the Sega-CD / Mega-CD version (with English and French voiceover).

I loved this so much back when the game came out and I played this with the MT-32. The music was amazing, 24:30 is still my favorite I think but I loved a lot of it.

Dune does not support General MiDi nor Sound Canvas. It supports : -OPL2 (adlib soundblaster) -OPL3 + surround (AdLib Gold) -MT-32. As it does not use any custom instruments wiith the MT32, it may be played on a SC-55 in 'MT32 Emulation' mode.

Amiga version is superb but is limited to 3 tracks (and one of these only used during the intro). So only 2 track looping during play. PC/Sega-CD version have 9 tracks so it is less repetitive.

@@barbarianbros The number of tracks never made the quality of a track for me. My favorite game soundtrack of all time is the Amiga Soundtrack for Turrican 2. Great composition and melody with some intelligent 4-track arrangements can be absolutely marvelous, if in the right hands.

@@silentrocco i don't speak about the number of ' sound channels' but about the number of différent songs/themes. PC version is a full album while Amiga verdion is a 'maxi-single'

Hello! The Amiga version sounds nice because I sampled instruments from the album, enabling Alex to have a "construction kit" for doing the mods in the best way... You forgot to mention that this is the CD version; it's a revamped soundtrack compared to the original version. Or maybe you used a custom sample table.

Soundtrack is the same on CD and floppy version, excepted that the CD version has 2 more tracks for the Virgin and Cryo Logos.There is 3 sets of music files in the Dune data files, one for OPL2 FM synthesis (AdLib soundblaster), one for OPL3 with surround effects (AdLib Gold) and one for Roland LA synthesis (MT32). Actually the video was recorded from the CD version, but music was recorded from Floppy version. I simply renamed successively each .M32 file as Arrakis.M32 so they play at the beginning of the game, and you can only do that with the Floppy version as in the CD version all data files are concatained in a huge single file (same thing for KGB/Conspiracy). I did not use any sample table, only my old Roland MT32 device (model : V.1 old). But the MT32 version is a simple conversion with no custom instruments, less good than the incredible sounds Stéphane Picq gets from OPL2/OPL3 FM synthesis.

Thanks for the detailed explanations. As I said this could very well be the expected soundtrack(as you clarified) but the instruments have more of a beep-boopy sonority to the OPL3 soundtrack I'm used to. So I'm guessing that the Roland MT32 1.0 does not have the same samples embedded, or maybe it's simply the absence of bass! Or even the left/right balance.

In your dreams haha … the reverb quality alone blew the ad lib out of the water. Never mind alle the much better sounds. This Roland synthesizer was at the hart of a lot of 80s music. Which I don’t think is always that great btw but AdLib didn’t come close.
