Blade 2 is honestly one of the best comic book movies ever made. And this movie was made 20 YEARS AGO!!! Imagine what it would be like if present day Guillermo Del Toro made this movie!?!?! Also the “reaper” breed of vampires later influenced him to make The Strain which has some of the scariest vampires you will ever see.

Guillermo Del Toro directed this, he would go on to direct a TV show called "The Strain", it was based on a book and the 'vampire-like' creatures in that show look exactly just like the ones here. The Strain was a good show too, 2014-17, 4 seasons. It literally could be an unofficial spin-off.

Tip of the hat to Luke Goss. I think he deserves more credit for not simply his acting, but acting through MAKEUP - which is a really difficult thing to find in a performer. If/When you get to the Hellboy films, he also plays the big bad in the 2nd one. Also well done.

I heard a story once (don't remember where) about the first movie. If you remember the girl in the library, the one who kinda knocks Blade on his ass, apparently Snipes saw her in a tournament and went up to her and asked, "Hey, how would you like to kick my ass?" That's how she got that part.

Great reaction to one of my favorite vampire movies of all time! I truly believe it beats the original in almost every aspect. Better directing/cinematography, better story, better & more memorable villain in Nomak, and the fight choreography really shines more. In reference to your confusion when Blade meets the "Blood Pack", and Reinhardt asks him "can you blush", he was actually trying to square up to Blade and belittle him with a racist remark about his complexion (from the ridiculous belief that black people don't blush). If you recall, Blade taunts with "Adolf here gets the first shot" when he pulls the silver stake out afterwards and swiftly puts him in his place. Sending a message to the rest of the pack with it. It establishes Reinhardt as having elitist beliefs, and a spiteful ego since he keeps trying Blade any chance he gets afterwards. And it comes as no surprise that he supports Demaskinos vision of a super, pure blood vampire race in the end.

The "can you blush?" line I think has a double meaning the first and probably most intentional by the filmmakers is Reinhardt pointing out that Blade is black and can't blush. The second meaning is that Blade is half-human and has a normal (human) body temperature so can still blush because if it. The former is most likely the real meaning as Blade responds by saying "Adolf (Hitler) here gets the first shot!"

4:38 The bald vampire that Blade uses as a shield is Santiago Segura, a Spanish actor and film director friend of Guillermo del Toro, who often makes cameo appearances in his films, such as Hellboy 1 and 2, or Pacific Rim. The funny thing is that the password that he shouts to be able to enter where the rest of the vampires are, is actually the title of the movie that he was directing at that time: Torrente 3

Blade was turned into something resembling a dhampir. Blade possesses superhuman strength, stamina, speed, agility, heightened senses, and a rapid healing factor that attacks any alien substances (chemicals/viruses) in his body. The healing factor also eliminates any chance of him being rendered helpless or maimed from the inside. Blade is unaffected by daylight and most other traditional vampire weaknesses. He also ages very slowly (although he is not immortal) and can preternaturally sense supernatural activity.

Donnie Yen should've been used way more in Hollywood movies when this came out & Tarantino released Iron Monkey in the USA. Donnie Yen did the action choreography for Blade 2 btw. *But, I always wanted a prequel short film/movie for Yen's character, Snowman, in Blade 2 or an inclusion of that character in the comics since Blade 1 made him so popular they actually started putting him in stuff like making him an avenger & the same goes for his character in Star Wars: Rogue One, Chirrut and Highlander: Endgame.* At least he made great flicks in China like Ip-Man, Seven Swords, Killzone, Special ID...hell, he was even great in Dragon Tiger Gate & others. Great Reactions, BTW! *(Oh, boondock saints is great. Too bad the 3rd movie in that series never happened. Also, Norman Reedus also did an episode in an Horror Anthology series that I can't remember the title of by John Carpenter, but his episode was called, "Cigarette Burns" and it was very trippy + I don't even watch horror too much and I liked it.)*

Remember during this time, movies were not planned to have sequels, or spin off tv shows. Lord of the Rings and the Matrix series were kinda the exception. That's why when a movie did get the go ahead for a sequel, especially one that was a surprise hit like the original Blade. The sequels were always several years later, often with a different cast, director, writer, etc etc. Because of that, sequels often went in entirely different storylines, and tried to be more creative. Tried being the key word.

(I even get their names confused quite often, and just call them by their Supernatural names to make it easier for myself) Haha

Hands down the best Blade movie. The only down is the frankly ridiculous and forced way they brought Whistler back and the forced twist of Daryl (sorry, Norman Reedus). But other than that it's atmospheric, at times truly disturbing, the creature's designs are really unsettling and great action. All and all an excellent movie and an other triumph for Guillermo Del Toro.

I have a question/potential plot-hole that you'd likely hear brought up in Pitch Meetings or CinemaSins... At 44:37, why is her death from the sun all slow, painless and majestic-like, whereas all the other vampires, namely that corporate leader who was the "pure breed" from Blade 1 that was taken out there to die by the sun, was more quick, violent, painful, and extremely gruesome? Was she a different type of vampire that dies slightly slower by the sun, or was it just so they could make a beautiful and romantic final scene to help close the movie with? 🤔

Blade is something similar to a dhampirs (sometimes spelled dhampyres, dhamphirs, or dhampyrs) are creatures that are the result of a union between a vampire and a mortal human. This union was usually between male vampires and female mortal humans, with stories of female vampires mating with male mortal humans being rare.

The answer to your question about Nyssa is yes, she was a pure blooded vampire. Born as one since her father is an elder. Damaskinos is an ancient vampire of Greek descent. Over hundreds of years old too and supposedly fathered many children, including Nyssa and her brother Nomak. In Nomak's defense, he didn't ask to be a Reaper. True, you'd be a beast but at a cost. He wanted revenge because of what they did to him. Don't blame him in all honesty lol.
