"Stay Gold" is a reference to an 80s film called "The OutSiders" about a gang of boys growing up in the 50s. The cast is filled with a ton of people that broke and became very popular actors. It's a good watch, was a movie I watched a lot in my younger days.

As a game designer/systems developer in the industry, I both agree agree, and disagree. Don’t be dumb, and subscribe to that blanket statement, but DO make sure you own what you buy, and if possible, support physical, or at least a legally-guarded digital platform.

Naw I’d much rather just accept piracy. If these companies are too bothered to make sure we have access to buy these things, that’s all the excuse I need to take the easy way out. I can do the wrong thing, and justify it at the same time. Sounds like a win win for me.

There are some movies, mainly older movies or TV shows that I still own on DVD because they are not always available on any streaming services. Or sometimes those streaming services will remove a certain movie or TV show that I want to watch, but if I own the DVD, as long as I don't damage the disc, it will always be available.

I 100% agree with your take on physical media. I saw a reaction a while ago of The Matrix and the guy was showing his son the movie, and hence had a blu-ray cuz he was a fan, and the difference in quality was noticeable! Even with it being a small window on the screen I was amazed how obvious the difference in quality is compared to everyone else who'd stream the movie...

@TheJohhnyE3 ай бұрын
You must be new to the entire digital marketplace. It's weird how now that places have dumbed down the wording in the terms of service nobody ever reads on anything, people think they've discovered something. You have never technically fully owned any form of digital media since it's inception. The video game community has been especially annoying with thinking they discovered something now that the words can be understood by a middle schooler and steam started telling them up front about it.
@WillsonT0113 ай бұрын
@TheJohhnyE Whatever. Only Idiots will trust these big companies to keep their word or lettering or whatever the fuck🤣🤣🤣

@WillsonT011 You don't own physical media either, which are loaded with DRM nowadays. Actually, pirated digital media is the one you have the most ownership of.
@robertyeah22593 ай бұрын
@@TheJohhnyEI think you’re missing the point. Of course that’s not new information. The point is that it’s…. wrong. 😂 Physical media ownership was (mostly) ethical. You own a playable copy of a product, but not the intellectual rights or any right to mass-market or sell your copy of it in an official transaction. That’s fair. The creators and distributors get protection over the money they are owed but you are also guaranteed the copy is yours and yours alone for as long as you physically have it. With the exception of personal servers/PCs filled with files, digital ownership of media is not ownership of anything. If you are required to have an internet connection to have access to the content because it is being streamed to you from elsewhere, then it was ethically wrong to sell the product in the first place. That’s not a purchase, you’re paying for a temporary permission. You can disagree and say that it’s always been in the fine print, but that’s exactly what’s wrong about it lmao. If there was always an option between the two, you wouldn’t hear me complain. But many streaming services and film/television studios are realizing that they can exert more control over their patrons by leaning further and further away from physical media. Giving said patrons less and less anything of actual material value (i.e. a copy of a movie/game that you would still have in your hands even if the grid failed tomorrow) while charging the same and often higher prices. It’s a non- product for the same amount of money, while slowly fazing out the product of more value so they can save at the customer’s expense. and just because it’s legal doesn’t it’s not total BS.

Ironically physical media is making a slow but steady comeback, because so many streaming platforms don’t have the movies or shows we’re looking for because they can’t afford the licenses, or the licenses expire, or they can’t get the licenses no matter what because of legal bullshit. (Great example is the movie Dogma, it’s a great cult classic made by Kevin Smith but he can’t get it streamed or sell it digitally because the rights are owned by Harvey Weinstein, and he won’t give them up because he’s in jail.) So literally the only way to watch and save Lost Media is physically owning it.

My favorite Halloween tradition is to watch as many of "The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror" episodes as possible. There is one episode per season (starting on Season 2), so there are quite a few of them. I admit that some of them are not as good as others, but there are a lot of fun parodies in them... including "The Shining"... or "The Shinning". 😁 For things I like and will listen to again or re-watch, I also prefer the actual CD's and DVD's. They can be collector's items as well as actual media... and as long as the discs are in good shape, you can watch them as many times as you want to and do not need internet or to maintain streaming services. Don't get me wrong, I can understand why they are both good for many, and perhaps to try out something you have not seen before. So as an option, fine. Streaming is great, but I don't like it to be the only option.
