I've always wondered. When was Gwenllian Davies actually born? In here, she looks like she could be approaching 90, if not in her 90s, which would suggest she was born no later than the early or mid 1910s, if not the end of the first decade of the 1900s (around 1908 or 1909?)

Dot's having flashbacks of her evacuee parents in the war, she ran away from them and her evacuee mother hasn't forgiven her. Does that help? Sorry I gave away a bit..

She was not abused by Will, she had a good life with Will and Gwen as an evacuated child. Will had hoped for a boy but came to love Dot as much as Gwen did. He shot the dog Blue, it was stuck in a trap or something and vet care wasn't as good back then as it was now so it was a kindness to shoot the dog and put it out of it's misery

He shot the dog because it was grievously injured, vet care back then wasn't like it is now and as they lived in a rural area it would have taken ages for a vet to get to them- if vets were still around during wartime. It was an act of kindness putting the dog out of it's misery/pain
