Man this game is so complicated. I'm glad I decided to jump into this game at a time after this video series was created because it's so helpful. I think I'm going to take a year at least to get the hang of all the elements of this game. There's too much to consider. Let alone the 112 heroes you have to get familiar with.

Not a year really, if you play let's say everyday or every 2-3 day. I started in 2013, and after 4-5 months of daily playing (learning from zero), I already knew almost every hero's build, because you'll learn the basic grasp that the build (in my opinion) is not briefly sectioned onto "A hero build", "B hero build", etc. But more to "Str core build", "Str mid build", "Agi core build", etc. But yeah It's subjective, the hero's abilities can also be considered to what items should be build, but after like 100 matches you'll take it more easy because you'll remember almost every hero's skill by your own after experiences after matches. Like let's say you pick Tiny and you never used it before but you already know that Tiny really depends on his Skills to kill and harras enemy, not by basic attacks, and he's a Strength hero. So actually without selecting an in-game build, you would know that you should prioritize making the arcane boot first because you need mana (and Tiny's mana pool is very low), not Power thread. But let's say your teammate picks crystal maiden which you already knew that her 3rd skill passive really give great mana regen for all allies, so then you should make the power thread rather than arcane boots because you can get more attributes from power thread boots, but your mana regen is still supported from crystal maiden's 3rd skill.

As someone who has played literally almost 2000 hours of this game, I say, don't worry! I played one hero - Techies - for more than 200 games because he's so much fun. Just try some different heroes and find one that you find fun! Hell, in all 2000 of my hours, I've literally never touched 30 of the heroes in the pool.

Do I have a guarantee that when I buy an item from the shopkeeper it's a brand new item? Or am I just buying hand-me-down's and the shopkeep is a no good pawn shop?

spending priority is unreliable gold. so if you have any unreliable gold, you will spend them first. let say you have 300 unreliable, 500 reliable gold. and you bought a band of elvenskin(450 gold). you will spend 300 unreliable, 150 reliable gold in that case

Everytime you kill an enemy hero, a Roshan, tower or use Hand of Midas you get some reliable gold.
