This is so fundamental, but also so freaking important, especially for a newbie. I used to play Dota, then LOL. Neither of the games would cause me hard time on last hit creeps. And why? It's all about the setting. If I don't know the mechanism of the mouse and hotkey, I wouldn't know how to do it like a pro. Thanks to you and this video that I finally understand the move why I do so poorly but seems so easy to some other players. This should be the must watch video for all new players! I'm still gonna right-click to attack and deny, thanks. It's so fundamentally baked into my muscle memory over several years of Dota that trying to re-learn or override that would only end up compounding and multiplying my mistakes, instead of helping. Plus it just wouldn't feel right to me. There's just something innately satisfying about the clicks that no amount of gameplay improvement can replace for me. I will apply the Stop action more to reduce turning though.

As a person who did use the same mouse button to move, etc. I would focus the H button So . get the hero lined up to attack - say you're drow - Go into attack animation _ H - stop - She's there and ready - but i think your method will help a ton with the quick attack and move, as I was too hesitant to enable those options with one button doing both. :) So thanks again, - A and S - are my go to keys too, attack-move or stop :D Thanks to the work i do as well, I need to stop more and more. As another note - if you take Quick Attack ticked- it reset the attack motion everytime you click, instead of doing the H and attacking, when in position. This pressing A to attack is bad. I right click to attack, left click to attack on quick attack and right click to deny.

I feel like since your using the stop function so much after you attack it isn’t that bad to have right click attack on. Since if you misclick like on the range creep scenario he described at the beginning you can just cancel your movement immediately with stop.

One thing i'd say for the A-click-stop part at 5:20 is that when you attack move (I don't know about directly attacking a creep) you don't need to press stop, just a click a click and it'll cancel the animation from the last attack.

I recently played DOta2 with friends at a lan and we all played it for the first time. Its funny how everyone of us did the walk / attack thing you show at 3.43.... it just seems a natural intuitiv way to do when you have no idea at all and play for the first time ;) walk up and down till creep gets low then right click on it for last hit attempt ;) propably the worst way to do it but the most natural way , too

Hey bro you forgot instinctively measuring the damage output of each hero to assess whether a certain hp bar on point will die to your hit or not. I think that's the most important thing to remember because if you like know the max HP needed for the last hit just by looking at the bar it will be more efficient to last hit then when applied with the hotkeys modifications you just thought then you wouldn't miss at all unless your enemy laner has the same concepts and had better abilities and damage output for last hitting.

How does the smart attack work if I send illusions down a lane to push that lane? Would they still move down the lane and attack the first target they see or move to where my cursor was when issuing the command and then attack the nearest unit to that cursor position?

The "attack nearest to cursor" option only works for targetable units within a particular radius of cursor when command was issued. This radius is visible when holding down attack key (quick attack mode) or before clicking. If there are no units within this radius, smart attack will work in the usual 'dumb' way

I use the shift quueu here. You select illusions, press shift + right click somewhere + attack, so the illusions will move into the fog if you for example jungle and hit the first unit u see

I'm not saying that I'm PRO lul... but man, I just disagree with almost everything u said :D. I'm using right click attack even on denyes, so I don't have to press "A" whole time. Also when someone run into trees is basic "A" on the ground really great, because you will hit him as soon as you see him - but you need to be aware of your attack range circle, because you don't want to be pulled away onto lane. And ye, when someone try to stay still near creep, he just asking for few extra hits from me... But after all, it's about personal preferences :)

you are so right, this is a kind a low-level guide..... my comment on the video above: "do you really spam stop so much? seems like a terrible way to position yourself and to make yourself a target. what i normally do is stay just out of range of enemy heroes and then walk up to the creep as it approaches last hit hp. i am only coming into range as i walk up, i get the hit, then walk off, ready to last hit again and/or deny. keep myself safe as possible, giving my enemy only a glimpse of me as i get closer."

No disrespect but this only works in pro team where 2 support are protecting their carry. CS without moving is like open invitation to Lina stun ,slark pounce, pudge hook etc. Whenever I see some1 do stop attack stock attck animation I quickly hit 2 time and go back. I use smart attack and quick attack but I never stay near creep unless I want to CS .I am always moving.

Your comment didnt make sense or maybe you didnt understand. Pros and high level players are always moving, and considering the meta right now is 2v2 in the side lanes, supports and cores constantly try to harass each other and at the same time cs or deny (early game denies became a major role in supports life). You have to keep moving and still use the fake attack to trick your opponent, turn in the right direction and get the right timing for cs/deny. These two things don't exclude each other.

my common problem with lasthitting is when enemy hero with base items starts with lets say 70 damage and i start with like 50, he denies and lasthit everything. he gets stronger and the damage difference is even greater, then he lasthits even more and more. or when your teammate on the lane gets all the lasthits and you end up with nothing so you go to the jungle your team mate comes with you and he lasthits even jungle creep from you.

I came here thinking that I might learn something new about creep aggro etc. But I learnt nothing from this video... using a + click is also really stupid just like you yourself said others might think that way. Force attack/right click + S is all that you require. And if your mouse precision is bad, you work on that. Lower your sensitivity or something... no need to change an entire settings to re-learn something :| The only thing some people might have learned from this video is turn about turn rate. I didn't do it myself sense after dota 1, but my reasons were that I'd often get out of the last hit range of creeps. And it'd be travel time + turn rate + last hit animation for me. Fixed that by right/A click + S

Just use 's' for stop. The command is the following; rightclick, s, rightclick (witouth auto attack). Or just auto attack, s, last hit. With auto attack its easier getting fakes and denys

Smart attack move removes the afk farming power of attack moves imo. Shift click attack moves in the jungle on terror blade, hotkey to an illusion in lane, last hit in lane while attack move attacks all units encountered.
