let's be honest, it's actually LESS cutting. Ever heard of salami tactics? The smaller the angle, the more you are cutting. He's cutting in the 90 degree angle, producing the smallest pieces. It's the nicest though.

A curved cut meant they used too much force and they weren't able to control their strength. You're supposed to maintain edge alignment. 0:38 is more skilled than the others even if they cut through more tatami mats.
@philswaim3922 жыл бұрын
0:33 was the best cut. Total control. Perfect blade angle. Very relaxed posture. Cut down relaxing throw his legs. The dudes who went to the last couple rolls were bending at the back like chopping wood. Thats not a good way to handle the sword and leaves you open to attack. Very exposed. But this guys technique looks practiced, disciplined, clean, and pure

I'm no samurai, and my cutting skills are based on lumber chopping, I use a meter long Machete... My experience has taught me that once you commit to the slice, whatever the initial angle was, if you don't follow a straight cut path there's a very good change you'll hurt yourself. Either it be your muscle or the blade going somewhere you really dont want it to go
0:38 best cutter. Clean straight cut through 5 matts
@mr.voidout47393 жыл бұрын
Every muscle in the body locked, shoulders cocked back, knees slightly bent, spring up on your toes and knees, squeeze-inward with both hands to stable the blade, release your shoulders like a crossbow and arc the blade down in the same motion of planting back down on your bent knees and flat feet. Chiburi, koiguchi, badda bing badda boom. Edit for tidbit: The strategic purpose of the hakama (the skirt-pants) was to make it difficult to discern an adversary's leg and foot movements; making it harder to premeditate a proper response or counter. If not for the hakama, Japanese swordsmanship would have a closer semblance to medieval "choreographed" sword fighting; as opposed to the strike-first "hissatsu" duels that highlight bushido combat.

The guy at 0:35 had the best control since cutting it straight is not an easy feat. Frankly, I'd be more impressed to see 5 tatamis being cut straight vertically. But I don't recommend doing vertical slice since it's easier to cut slanted. Treat your katana as if it's a katana, not like a club.
