Fans love NFL players who have had prominent ongoing roles in the playoffs on national TV. The commentators are prone to the same siren's call. The Lions go to the NFC championship game, and barely lose it, last year, then go 15-2 this season, but their stars are only now beginning to get the acclaim their play and their skills deserve. Similarly, the Lions as a team do not have the pedigree of a perenial threat to win the SuperBowl, so their being in the mix this year (and last year) still feels like an aberration. That won't change completely until they win The Big One.

Nobody should be talking about Sam darnold for mvp. Sam darnold should not even get a vote. He's not anywhere near the top five people for MVP. Even the casual fan of football knows that. Top five NFL MVP candidates are Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jared Goff, Saquon Barkley, and if you're going to go with somebody other than Mahomes which you should it have to be Burrows over Darnold by a long shot.
