I have been looking for this song and couldn't ever find it. Thank you. I heard it years ago on the radio and never heard it again.

Dottie. I am currently visiting in Nashville and went to the Ernest Tubb Record Shop. Not a single picture of Dottie is hanging on their long gallery of opry stars. I even told the woman at the registar and their was only two CDs by her for sale in the rack. I heard Dotties hand prints at the wax museam were cracked up by the floodwaters last May.

I heard this on a Christmas tape belonging to my parents (I can also recall Pretty Paper, by Roy Orbison). They separated when I was three, so I'm guessing I last heard it Christmas 1994, just short of my third birthday. I've looked for this forever. Somehow I never found it before, despite googling the the key words. Part of me can't believe that it exists.

Hi there. I also loved the tape you mean. I think it was Willie Nelson singing Pretty Paper, though. And it had Jim Reeves The Memory of an Old Christmas Card as well - does that sound like the same compilation?

@@jemimageorgia4897 Oh, yes!! --- the Reeves track title sounds very familiar too! And was it a Willie Nelson recording of Pretty Paper?! This is very possible, as I only came to know the Orbison version as I grew older and listened to my parents' Orbison albums. Ugh. I totally forgot about this comment, and now I need to listen to all of these songs again! I cannot believe that this compilation even exists. That this video and songs are from outside of my infantile dream world.

Thanks for posting, I dug out an old radio recording I made way back in 1976, Christmas Eve from Armed Forces Network Europe while I served in the Army at Rhein Main Air Base in Frankfurt, West Germany. This song was in the 45 or so minute program called Country Rotations, this posting of your recording lets me put a name on the long lost artist after all so many years. Thank You. Dave Cooper

@hummergal1 I know what you mean I too love Dottie West and it's a shame that Nashville has'nt remembered her over the years I still can't believe it's been 20 years since she died, well there seem's to be a renewed interest in her because articles etc have been published I hope it keeps up

Dottie had lost her money through investing foolishly. She was a pauper at the end of her career - she had nothing - even her music awards had to be sold. Meanwhile , she got an invitation to sing at a club and while on the way she had broken her car lent by a friend. Then a very old friend had given her a lift and , unfortunately, that person couldn't prevent the accident that ultimately killed her by rupturing her liver.

the man she trusted stoled her money...she just signed a new contract months before she died...so the money was there for her to spend...don't rely on tabloid gossip
