Probably the only homemade can crusher that is also musical when operating.

I've been watching several automated can crusher videos. I gotta say yours is by far the best. It's very fast. It's self loading. But what makes it the best is how you incorporated a magazine that you can easily collect the cans in as you acquire them. None of the other machines have this. Very good job.

I'm in Wisconsin Here all The metal scrapyards Pay for aluminum cans. The Price they pay verys from day to day depending on the market Ive gotten anywhere fron $.25 to $.75 cents per LBS. I crush the cans and dump them in 35 Gallon garbage cans , I have 6 of them when they are full I take them in and Average Probably arounfd $35 . Gives me money to buy more Beer and I keep the cans out of the land fill Its a WIN WIN

I have seen many, many, many homemade can crusher, The loading kind and single can crusher kind. Some were really nice but didn't flatten clan enough and all the loaded ones didn't hold enough cans to impress me. This is the best one I have seen so far! It is utterly amazing! The entire concept of it great! The box that sits by fridge for the empties and everything about the design! You sir have mastered it!

Love your video, would wonder if there is any way we could get a slow video of the frame without the wooden crusher on top? I think I can see a metal frame to hold the crusher bolted to the fork of 10 speed, another fork attached to the back of crusher frame to center of bike frame. Then it looks like you have two rods from crusher frame to motor support plate with another support from front of bike to the far outside of crusher frame. If I have break down right, there would be little to no vibration. Well done sir.

Ever see the inside of a coke can vending machine, or the racks at the grocery store they stock Progresso Soup on so the merchandise gets turned and doesn't expire on the shelf? I don't know the exact name, but it is a serpentine design where the cans zig zag down a repeated "S" channel and out of the machine, or rack.

@lmm201311 жыл бұрын
yes the gears on the bike are working in revere. normal bike = less power to turn wheels, can crusher = spin wheel more force applied to wooden blocks.
@818silencer81811 жыл бұрын
I don't think the stores take them, at least not here in California. In some stores though, there's a container out in the parking lot and there's someone there who takes your cans and plastic and pays you for it, but that's from a separate company than the store.

@sambo55627 жыл бұрын
As far as home crushing can automation unit. Yours appears to be the one most thought out. I do have a thought for you. Why by chance did you not take the drive chain sprocket and direct connect to the electric motor, having the motor drive the peddles via your chain sprocket? Also a good improvement would be to have your crushing chambers, crush at the end of each stroke forward and revers. So as to have each crushing chamber, crushing 2 cans per cycle out of each chamber.
@doghousedan17 жыл бұрын
The reason I built it the way i did was that I thought the rear wheel would act as a fly wheel thus making it run smoother . The double chamber would be a good idea .
@sambo55627 жыл бұрын
If you were looking for the wheel to act as a flywheel. Then make it as such. A cheap and easy way to do this would be to put (1) 2" slit in the middle of the tire. Allow the air to escape if you had it full of air. Then mix you up a small batch of Concrete Ready Mix at $3.00 per a bag. Fill the tire with as much of the mix as possible. Temporally close the slit with duct tape. Spin the wheel as to allow uniform spreading throughout the tire and run it for about 10 minutes to allow it time to set. This should give you the weight and a quick way to make it happen an turn your wheel into a flywheel with weight to it. Have fun, enjoy.
@doghousedan112 жыл бұрын
Dont know what good it will do ya but , The 4x4s (pistons if you will) are 3.5"x 2.38"x 12 inches long the box they run in is 15.5" wide x 25" long rods are 22.5" long from piston to crank I used a 26" bike depending on what size bike you use these measurments may change . Again I have no plans I just looked at the material I had and put it together. Its Very simple dont over think it .

why didn't you just connect the motor straight to your crank gear (giant gear between your pedals) and chop the back half of the bike? If you're trying to slow down the revolutions, create step-down gear box. just my two-cent. Other than that, neat contraption!

I timed it. See my comment above. It crushes cans at a rate of about 92 per minute. Pretty impressive. I figured crushing time alone, and did not include the delay in pulling the second stick. He could eliminate that by rebuilding the feeder into serpentine instead of straight columns. Just thought of something!... If he could find an old, busted up coke machine, he could re-use some of the serpentine can feeders inside the machine and incorporate it on his crusher!
@truebassB12 жыл бұрын
@almarquardt @almarquardt Doesn't matter much,a 300-400w Motor should be more than enough. He can exchange Speed for Torque aka Barrel Pressure anytime by selecting a different Bike Gear,but the higher the motor speed the better,Torque is not RPM depending but the more it revvs the more Torque it can give through out gearing.

Amazing can crusher, thinking of building one myself, could I get some insight onto the spec of the motor you are using?
@doghousedan110 жыл бұрын
The motor I used came from a Friend of mine , I have no Idea what it came off of and there are no tags on it . I be leave it may have come from a Refrigerator . and would be a 1/4 or maybe a 1/2 HP. About all I can tell you is that it dosent have a Starter capacitor on it so I have to spin the wheel and then turn on the switch to start it. and it will run in either direction. I dont think you need alot of horse Power because the Wheel works as a Fly wheel Providing the Power to crush the cans. Thanks for the Question . If you do build one please Make a Video and post it. I would love to see it :)

I have a Pulley hub on the motor You can get them at Fleet Fram in the farm implement section . The Hub just runs up against the Bike tire That gives it enough friction to run the machine and crush the cans. But if something that wont crush gets in a can the Hub will just slip on the tire thus keeping things from breaking. I am useing an 18 speed bike the front (crank gear) there are 3 gears im useing the middle one the Tire gears im useing the smallest Gear . Hope this helps
