Marthyn this series is re-inspiring drummers like myself who had tried multiple times in the past and had accepted that fast double bass drumming was beyond reach no matter what.Thank you!

This video changed my life: you’ll have someone buying your course here in the next day. I’m amazed. The whole time I was trying to use ankle technique I was using my shin muscles to lift up and not just flexing and relaxing calf’s. First day of playing 150-160bpm for minutes at a time. And I don’t get tired. BRO THANK YOU ITS TAKEN 10 YEARS

I envy you guys. I can only stabilise my ankle motion after starting with a twitch with the metronome going, and then the slowest I can stabilise at is 175 bpm 8th notes on both sides. My feet don't want to go slower than that. Also as I mentioned starting and stopping clean is basically impossible. I'll try that starting position tomorrow

Hey Marthyn. Its insane how this video and your last video of the same topic, has finally made me understand what I'm doing wrong. Thank you, so much! Cheers, from Sweden.

Brother I stopped playing the double bass drum for two 2 years and I'm back... I thought my technique was wrong but actually my pedal setup is the one that was wrong... haha With this video I adjusted my pedal as you you said and my feet are magically back to 210 bpm. Thank you!

Happy Saturday Marthyn, from one of your older students 58 years young in Charlotte, NC. I also had some issues stating and stopping using the ankle technique. Your tutorial helps. I am also using the Peal Eliminators with back with using the red cam, it helps spring tension is set aft 6 -7 notches on the screw. Beater angle set in the middle, which is at good distance from the beater head. My sweet spot is between 165 - 175 BPM. I am also working at pounding out 16th notes straight away 4 bar measures now hit 155 BPM using quad muscle - leg technique I would like to 160 BPM with leg technique mostly for a foot, leg ankle strengthening work out, play ability still a bit sloppy. I like the ankle technique usually after 150 - 155 BPM for me personally the 3 notes beats I will use in practice today.. See how it helps. My only set back with the ankle technique is wishing it was just a bit louder, I'm trying to learn the swivel technique with the ankle technique, but for now that is like have two left feet and hold on that one. These lessons really help even for us old guys. Thanks Marthyn !

Thank you for the Proper explanation Marthyn. I’ve used this technique since I started playing faster music years ago. I have found this to be very comfortable and balanced compared to using hips and knees and toes to push the pedal down. The technique allows for a faster playing but allows you to enjoy what your doing more as opposed to focusing most on the repetition of your feet. It’s almost as if you start a kinetic “machine” that only takes a boost to start and then it does the rest...In this case the springs and possibly the rebound of the bass drum heads do the rest.

Hi Marthyn by far you have my favorite drum channel on KZbin, question, I practice everything you teach in here but my problem is balance, the moment I start using both my feet I feel like I lose my balance, I already adjusted my seat a thousand time so I think it’s me not my seat, thank you!

James Payne tutorial for ankle was to have the first stroke for each leg is leg motion stroke and then it transitions to ankle every stroke after your initial stroke for each foot. I do that triplet hit thing for warm ups all the time.

Great lesson. Your explain well. Could I apply it with Double/Twin Pedal? I'm playing with on Electric Drum Kit (Yamaha DTX) with Double/Twin Pedal. After I watch all your series, I wanna try the Bass Drum Mastery lesson. But I don't know if my equipment will support it or not. Do I need to tweak something? Thank you.

What is your high-hat connected to? It looks as if it’s legs are completely closed and I like how close it is to your pedal.

Is it true, that executing the ankle technique is way more easier if you sit a Bit more further away from your pedals or is it just me? I found it difficult to get into the right motion with a 90° angle between your upper leg and your lower leg. Can you make a commentary in your next Video to this topic maybe? Greetings from northern germany

Hey Marthyn, when it comes to the ankle motion i tend to play the first 2 notes heel down which then naturally lift my heels in order to keep the beat, do yout think there's anything wrong with that ?

what can I do if one of my pedals(the left one) is more stiff and tense than the other.I have tried dozens of times to level them out ,but it doesnt work.Anyone here that had this problem and could help?Thank you.
@symphony-of-destruction4 жыл бұрын
Your left pedal is never really going to feel as your right, unless you are using double bass drums, because you are moving that mass of the drive shaft. But you could watch your joint angles, the lower (the straighter) the angle, the better your left pedal is going to feel. Personally I set both of the pedals exactly the same with as low angles in the joints as I could work with, and simply learn with it.

Vlad Mihalca your left leg is just weaker and not used to playing that much :D

I can get the first hit down just fine, but then when I try to start the ankle motion from there, it kind of comes out as a twitching motion that is unproductive. Any advice?
