In this morning I made 4 antenna double BiQuad just same with this video. With one antenna you have very powerful antenna, when you parallel it and make one direction or four direction, you have unbeatable WiFi antenna. I made it, parallel and one direction, I don't know how dBi achieved, but I can connect WiFi with strong signal in over 1,7Km range. You may not believe it, but just practicing and make its parallel! Thanks again Andrew!!!!

there are lots of videos on youtube on how to build these but this has to be the best i have seen. most just show the finished antenna but you show all the steps and explain it so people can understand.

Just built this antenna from your video. I had to ghetto it up a bit and use parts from the pound shop and rip apart an old dipole because I couldn't find the appropriate connector in Maplins. The copper used was the earth wire from mains electrical cable. The reflector is made from cardboard with cheap cooking film stuck onto it. The element is supported by thick party straws all held together with 5 melted glue sticks. For the finishing touch I put it in a plastic biscuit box. I thought it wasn't going to work as the copper was slightly bent in places but I made sure to get the measurements as accurate as possible and it has performed surprising well. Compared to the Linksys WRT54G in bridge mode with dipole antennas it got roughly 25% better signal using the ALFA USB adapter. I just wanted to say thank you for the this video and all the others. I've leaned a lot in the last two days just from watching them and have built a working antenna that I can use for just a few pounds and an a spare evening. I'd be very interested one day in purchasing one of your Biquad Yagi designs in some self assemble kit form if you ever get round to making them.

Hi John been thinking of doing some short videos explaining the fundamentals. Now that i have a few subscribers (and most seen interested in antennas). Thinking around 5 or 10 min long just looking at one area at a time. Also i am picking up a network analyzer this weekend so now I can show how each antenna works in more detail.

Hi, I spend some time in building various models to find the most effective one. For me that resulted in: backplane of 246x123mm with 25mm lips on the long sides, using 1.5mm2 copper wire (the 20swg was really bad in performance). Using a 1/4 wave of 30.5mm (tried many others, but that had not that much effect). Spacing of 16 to 17mm between double biquad and backplane. Soldering a copper pipe through the copper pcb to connect the coax directly to the biquad (lesser losses than an expensive connector. I have no absolute dB numbers, but in doing so I went on channel 1 from 58 to 90℅ signal and from -72 to -52dBm in my test rig. Thanks Andrew for stimulating to experiment!

Hi Andrew Do you think this antena could reach a wifi signal at 300 meters whithin the city??? Does it really matters the type of connector ? I have a wireless adapter with rp-sma, and I can´t find a pig tail coaxial with BNC / rp-sma connectors. Does it work if I just get the coaxial cable and put the BNC and RP-SMA connectors?? Thanks Andrew

I have a question, can you please help me.. I am currently building this antenna following your instructions but what I don't understand is why are you using bnc connector instead of sma? How do you connect to the alfa card? Do you have bnc to sma cable or something? Couldn't you just use a sma connector with a cable crimped on so that the antenna has a lead wire with it? Please let me know.. I'm literally building this antenna right now.

can I use biquad to replace my tl-740n router antenna?
@ifell3

That first prototype looks a lot like the windsurfer antenna free download. Tried this double biquad and thou it was a bit better then using a stock alfa antenna, it still wasn't no where near as good as a belkin stick in a can. To be honest i didn't take to long to make it, my squares where not all perfect down to a mm.

Very nice! When you make your antennas, do you have a link to web page with antenna calculator? I would like to learn how to calculate and build them. Or if you make a video on that one day, I would love to see it.

I like your job with antennas. I want to ask you what was the reference antenna (that with the 64dbm signal). What SWR did you obtain? This Double Biquad has stronger signal than your Biquad Yagi ? Did you ever try to add two "booms" to this Double Biquad and create an antenna aray ?

Hi Andrew: What is the difference between a 2.4GHz and a 5 GHz? Which one is better? I have a TP Link WA5210g 2.4GHz high power outdoor antenna, will your antenna improve the signal reception? Also, do you have a video where it shows how to connect the antenna to the computer? Your videos are great, keep them rolling! Thank you, regards.

I am going to attempt to build one of your antennas but i am not clear on how to connect it to my laptop. Would it just go directly to the wifi card? Thank you, John
@akarshgupta0406
@akarshgupta0406 6 ай бұрын
no, it doesnt directly go on to your wifi card. You'll need a BNC male to rp-sma cable. Then u buy a usb wifi adapter with a detachable antenna (u get good ones from TP-link) and u hook up the cable to the wifi adapter.

Gee I was very careful & accurate in making this design, & I have built RF gear before, but I got very poor performance from this one. I have used this aerial to replace the differential transceiver aerial in a wifi dongle for a remote mouse/keyboard. The signal is so weak it is worse that the original tiny aerial. I was under the impression that I could connect the two coax leads to the chip I/O pins, having removed the matching components for the previous aerial. Am I missing something obvious here?

years ago i made a big panel for digital tv bands using 8 biquads and performs exelent so far i could test, but you cant just have double gain with 2 or 4 times with 4 , it dont work that way , to get the last db of gain is extremely difficult so at some point it isnt give more gain whatever you do i dont know formulas for that but same thing for yagi`s ...

isnt it would be better to compare double biquad to another "directional" antenna such as cantenna or single biquad? is it good to be use as feeder on satellite dish compare to single biquad as feeder?
@highflowhighflow9896
@highflowhighflow9896 6 жыл бұрын
it might be work yes , just remember you need might to adjust the focus to maximise the result, good idea to make a construction for that.

Ok well I like the idea of putting the element between the Plexiglas I my borrow that. Now a parabola is a mathematical curve with a focal point that can be calculated. Yes there are many youtube videos that use kitchen utensils as parabolas but I have never come across anything in the kitchen that is a true parabola. I have looked at doing something like that using the wind surfer template and also bending the element of the biquad to match the curve of the wind surfer. The focal point of the curve is such that only 10% of the element is in the focal point. This is why such a small parabola works best with a dipole. Now if you have something bigger like a sat dish the focal point is much further away so a biquad will work much better. But even then dipoles and cantenna’s work much better. Don’t let this stop you experimenting though. Andrew ;-)

Is there any sort of theory behind this antenna? Everyone is using different lengths. You are using a 31.25mm length when the λ/4 of the channels 6 wifi frequency is 30.77 mm. Also the λ/2 is 61.55mm but you are using a 62.5mm. And what is the diameter of the wire you are using? And the reflector seems small comparing to other constructions. Does this work if the element is made out of pcb instead of simple wire? I mean the precision of a circuit board is extremely superior than bending wire with your hands. By the way i like your construction, seems professional.
@alextvmantvman3894
@alextvmantvman3894 9 жыл бұрын
no theory here, increased reflector size will lower operation frequency, double size will make it 1.2 Ghz, it will operate on 2.4 as a first harmonic, and never be better than single biquad on 2.4 Ghz main frequency resonance.

hello andrew coax cables and connectors aren't available where i live so is it possible to solder the biquad which you build direct to the wireless adapter this is the adapter which i have((TP-LINK TL-WN722N )) . thanks
@andrewmcneil
@andrewmcneil 10 жыл бұрын
Yes you could and the TL-WN722N is very easy to modify
@techboy3851
@techboy3851 10 жыл бұрын
so any type of antenna does not require the coax and the connectors and we can directly solder them to these type of adapters and the good thing that there will be no loss in signal is it right?

thank you very much sir you are really helpful and generous
@andrewmcneil
@andrewmcneil 10 жыл бұрын
hani waleed You will need a short length of coax to connect the two and solder directly but yes the sorter the connection the less loss you have.
@techboy3851
@techboy3851 10 жыл бұрын
so the coax is important to make the connection between the adapter and the antena ? i thought i can solder it with normal two line of copper and make the adapter very close to the antenna and connect the adapter with long usb cable to the pc so this idea not possible??
