I had never thought about that decreases in knitting involving slipped stitches are all “slip as if to knit” even though I say this to myself when doing an SSK, so yes, of course, the stitch looks much better as you are teaching as it isn’t twisted when passing over. Well put and well demonstrated.

Hi Suzanne...your instructions are perfectly clear but I do have a question about the beginning of the round. I am making a swatch in the round for a lace top and on one of the row, there is a double decrease at the beginning of the round that is repeated several times in the pattern. Each time I move the marker back per your instructions at this double decrease, my beginning stitch marker is now several stitches away from where my cast on tail is. Is this normal or do I need to knit the row a bit more to bring the beginning of the round to line up with the cast on tail? I think the latter would not work as it will mess up the pattern but I'm not sure how else to proceed. Your assistance on this would be much appreciated! Thank you! LT.

It depends on where the increase is in relation to the decrease. The marker may need to be before the increase, so that when you decrease, you stitch count remains the same.

@@SuzanneBryan thank you for your response Suzanne. I am knitting the English Mess Lace Stitch but the pattern is for knitting flat. I modified the pattern to be knitted in the round. So the increases comes after the double decrease as such at the beginning of the row: SK2P, (K1, YO) twice and K1. Each time I work this row at the beginning of the round, I move the stitch marker back so the slip stitch in the SK2P is from the stitch in the previous row. Doing so has resulted in the stitch marker being several stitches behind the column where the cast on tail is but the stitch count in the rows remains the same. I was just wondering if this is normal or should I be doing something to keep the stitch marker at the SK2P to be in line with the cast on tail column. How this makes sense. Thank you!

In this case, you will just need to keep track of the beginning of the round by the number of stitches, and move the marker accordingly.

That is new to me that in the chart the double decrease is the center st an I have to use one st on the left and one to the right. Is it always that way or only when working in the round? If I remember correctly, in your tutorial segment 1 the position of the double decrease on the chart was the first slipped st and I used two sts on the left. Did I make a mistake?
