Double dipping is a real problem. I was visiting an olive oil factory with a group. At the end we got some bread to dip in different types of olive oil. Most people dip just once, but then there were some who went back in the bowl with their half chewed bread. It was really disgusting, I didn't want to go after these people. How do they not know you're not supposed to do that in public? So stupid

Olive oil has antibacterial properties anyway so you're not going to catch anything.

They do that because they understand it really isn't a problem at all. You exchange more germs with those people just by being in the same room with them than you ever could through dipping. So, since the problem is entirely with your perception and not with health or hygiene, they aren't at fault and there's no reason to change. How do you not know? Have you ever shaken hands with someone for a greeting? With the same hands you later use to touch yourself? Ever used a door knob? Been among other people at all? That's healthy. Your body needs that to keep your immune system up to date and in working order. Most of your digestion and much of your immune system is done by bacteria. They aren't bad, they're vital to your survival. Only some will make you sick, and even that only if you keep deliberately underdeveloping your immune system.

Gosh this episode seems to be quite a cornerstone of the my childhood for no reason. I think it's just cause they made a whole floor of slipper things for the experiment. I was gasping for air watching it on tv!

They did the double dip thing completely wrong tbh, it's not that one single double dip would be as bad as the whole mouth but to keep consistently double dipping with several chips while pigging out would easily add up to be as bad as the whole mouth bacteria.
