This right here is the best Double Dragon game ever made. It combines all the best aspects of previous Double Dragon games, revamps a few things where necessary, and has none of the weaknesses. Arc System Works should port this somehow to consoles with better resolution and single screen 2 player support with online play, and maybe later do a sequel. Or use this game as a template when making a new DD game.

I love how this remake changes Marian for the best. In the original, she makes two brothers fight against each other and hooks up with the winner. Here, she's the voice of reason who makes them stop with such stupid quarrel.

They are supposed to be 20 years old, so I actually find the brawl between the brothers more believable. At that age most people are pig headed, and the 80s weren't exactly concerned with women's feelings, so fighting over a girl wouldn't be out of place. Either way, I think it was just a silly feature to allow both players to go head to head at the end, and wasn't really meant to be taken as part of the story.

you know, you can do juggles in this game? After doing the uppercut do headbutt or the flying knee. Does a lot of damage. Also - another good move is; stun an enemy (kick once) then push down+kick to do the tae-kwon-do kick combo

The most damaging combo I've done so far: 2 punches, grab'em, 2 knee strikes, release them with an upward kick; 1 step and quickly do a Hyper uppercut to juggle and then quickly a Hyper knee to send them flying. Headbutt when juggling is great to send them over a cliff in a quick manner.

The whole "fight for Marian" thing is a bit of a retcon based on a misunderstanding. Basically the true leader of the gang was your brother, the Shadow boss, with whoever losing I guess being the bad guy. A twist ending, etc. One the nes version understood. Like a "Fist of the North Star" thing, with an evil obsessed martial artist using the battle to save Marian as a test of his gang's worth, even as he helps his brother destroy to prove who is the strongest martial artist

@@KenMasters. I've never played it, but I wouldn't instantly call it an off brand SFII knock off. In their heyday many SNK fighters were on par with Capcom fighting games. I'd still take a DD beat-em-up or a solid SNK fighter over mashing the two up though.

@@tbirddddd Oh, the other fighting games on the NEO·GEO are fine. But even Aggressors of Dark Kombat plays more like what I had in mind for a Double Dragon fighting game. Turning -Billy- Bimmy & Jimmy into gi-wearing fireball-throwing shotos (they already have their own three signature moves), and taking away the 2.5D aspect in-game only takes away the charm, uniqueness, and originality of Double Dragon in general.

@@tbirddddd IKR? They're real reason why they're botched is because they're both modeled after that poor-man's live-action DD movie. The only good thing i'll say about the game is that it's ten times better than DD5: The Shadow Falls, it's considered as the worst DD entry in the 90s.

Did the GB Advance version allow for more than two enemies to come at you at the same time? THis version has five or so. I remember playing the TMNT Arcade machine with four turtles and ten foot soldiers came at us! It was awesome! Can't remember if there was lag.

A curiosity, the music for stage 4 is a remastered version of a stage (which curiously is the same stage number) from Double Dragon II on the NES, which is original music and not ripped from the Arcade.

This would look fantastic on the small GBA screen or modern handheld emulator. Just too blocky for bigger screens. I wonder if anyone will every find a way to redraw and upscale resolution of GBA game via emulator. Like, fill in the pixels basically to make it look native HD for example.

I loved this game! Even has blood with the knife throws! I considered this to be one of the best Double Dragon games available since it had so many moves and classic/new stages. Also the graphics/sprites were very similar to arcade as far as the bad guys go. I think it’s funny how they never could get the hair color right in most ports. Billy had the blonde hair in the arcade. Maybe the bros got tired of the same ol hair color and decided to dye it opposite? Haha. Also noticed the box art (that is also in the opening story) is taken straight from The way of the dragon movie box art with Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris. I thought those poses looked familiar. :-D

Double Dragon has always been like that the haircolor and clothes are all over the place. Everyone basically did what he wanted with this series. My favorite design is blue dressed Billy/brown hair and pink dressed Jimmy/blonde hair.

I think graphically it could and should have been a bit better... Animations definitely needed an update, like 8 frames cycle for everyone, a proper idle stances and a 1 or 2 smoothly animated moves per character would have been enough. Also, the complete lack of even basic blob shadows is just stupid since it was an easy to implement feature. Still, it's the best DD1 and great game overall, so no big deal.

I played about 2 minutes of this game on a emulator because I wanted to buy the real game and I'm about to get it in a few weeks... its shipping from Hong Kong.... paid about 9 dollars for it..... and your right this game is where it's at!! I always wanted to pin somebody on the ground and punch em in the face!! Lol ... It was good but it suffered from being on gameboy advance hardware. The sound and music and some stuff is kind of sub par from hardware limits, but its a solid game. Would have been better on SNES or something stronger

Este fue el Double Dragon mas que me gusto como el Double Dragon 2 para la Nes y PCE, aunque me gustaria que hubieran puesto sprites poco mas animadas como el de correr, algunos nuevos movimientos de ataque de los protagonistas unicos, Algunas comidas para recuperar salud, los corazones, mas niveles, enemigos y jefes, pero sin embargo, esta muy bueno el juego, mi queja es que veo de esta secciones de comentarios muy pendejos y idiotas que se pelean, si no les gustan ese juego, no lo jueguen, es su problema, es posible que puede ser que haya gente no le guste juegos tan difíciles o juegos tienen diseños extraños, pero la cosa si aprenden jugar y superar obstáculos y enemigos en un juego dificil o algo asi como este juego, les haría algo facil a poco a poco si aprendes bien los patrones y la memoria
