Yep, the grappling actually reminds me of a muay thai clinch, which I thought was crazy cool for the time and system limitations. You can use the throw and high kick to direct enemies off of ledges. But my favorite is to use these moves to knock enemies into walls. Probably doesn't do any extra damage, but it looks cool to brutally smash them into stuff and watch them bounce off!

Hey! About Bolo in the helicopter level. He is inspired by the actual Bolo from the movies.. You weren't sure where His name came from. Bolo is a real legend in the martial arts community. Bolo is the villain from the 80s movie "Bloodsport" staring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Bolo was also featured in the movie "Enter the Dragon" with Bruce Lee. It's the same guy. 😀
@lloydlineske26422 жыл бұрын
Wow! I'm happy to see everything here. Also finally a game I know more than you! The three things you didn't mention are... 1) When an opponent is starting to stand up, they are in the kneeling position if you try to throw a punch you'll actually throw a knee. The knee effectively puts them in the bent over animation. 2) Instead of just kneeling them in the face when you have them bent over you can press down and punch and you deliver an elbow to the spine. It's stronger than the knee. A ton of enemies can be beat with a stomach kick to bend them over then two elbows to the neck then throw them over your shoulder. Pretty sure doing that to someone in real life has similar effects. 4) When in the level with the overhead ceiling the most effectively strategy is to jump into the ceiling. It doesn't hurt you. Then when you start to stand again press both buttons. This fires off the hyper knee. Which is the most damaging move in the game. It also lifts you back up into the ceiling. Which sets up another knee. Rinse and repeat. 5) When crossing the lake in mission 4 the bottom path is easier. The reason why is if you press up and walk up against the wall where the ladder is it lines you up perfectly with the best line to take it's just jump jump jump jump at that point. You don't need walk up on the little floating piece as your video showed. It's easy to walk up too much and fall into the water. 6) The same as above in a way. When you are on the second to last level... Just before walking into the big room you press up and press against the wall. That's puts you at the perfect height to be able to strike the ninjas that run out after you. 7) You showed it but didn't describe it. When you are getting up and in that kneeling position you can press both buttons to jump which will do a hyper knee. Or you can press punch and do the hyper Uppercut. I talked about it in number 4, but wanted to point out that it wasn't mentioned. It's pretty much the best way to attack enemies in the game.

Interesting fact: All subsequent versions of Double Dragon have ended up denying Marian's death. In both the arcade and the DD3 NES game, Marian is alive. In the NES version of the game, she is possessed by the final enemy, Princess Noiram (Cleopatra in the Japanese version). Strangely, in the arcade DD3 and Super Double Dragon it is mentioned or appears in the manuals. In the DD3 arcade it is said that she is also the seller of the weapons store. The only game that accepts Marian's death in the second game is the fighting arcade "Rage of the Dragons", although it is not official canon. It was recently announced that Marian will be a playable character in River City Girls 2.

In DD3 it is actually way easier to make it to the final stage than in DD2, because DD3 has less instant death bullshit parts in it. The secret to that game is to only do the jumping spinning kicks whenever you're controlling Billy and/or Jimmy. It is by far their best move and will kill enemies in two hits. (in most of the stages anyway) Once you get the second dude (Chin?) just use his punch combo. Just stand with your back against a wall and mash the punch button and you will own enemies with it. It is crazy powerful.

Mechanically speaking, the Doppleganger records your attacks throughout the game, and uses what you use. Energy Balls represent weapon use, and disappearing represents your grab attacks. So you can theoretically cheese it by avoiding weapons and grabs. Test it with a game genie even. In fact, this doesn't relegate you to weak attacks either, as it appears to have no analog to your whirlwind kick, jump kick, or knee. Also, Marion isn't dead in DD3, just captured by Cleopatra or mind controlled, depending on the version.

Definitely a favorite of mine. I ALWAYS had trouble passing the Mansion of Terror stage due to the notorious platforming. I definitely need to memorize those codes again and definitely whip out the NES and play it again. One thing for sure, the PC Engine/TurboGrafx CD version, which is heavily based on THIS version, starts with the Shadow Warriors attacking a few civilians and the Lee brothers rescue them. However, when they get to Marian's apartment, the Shadow Warriors killed her. The ending is also the same in that version too which Marian is brought back to life after defeating the Shadow Warrior boss. It's also 2-Player simultaneous and you can change the settings in the options menu. You'll love the animated cutscenes there. Main problem: It costs a FORTUNE to own that game, so you'd probably have to play it via emulation or a repro. The Japanese Megadrive version was basically a port of the original Arcade game done by PalSoft, which I believe was a division of Technos.
