You need to use shorter and more controlled strokes. I see to many people clogging up their razor and running the same stroke several times when they should run it once and wash.

It has come to my attention that Feather blades are so sharp that they easily micro chip after one or two shaves. This makes them prone to a less effective shave after that. So, they are great for two or perhaps three shaves and then they are done. Just not as durable as some blades. However, compared to cartridges we can afford to toss the DE feather blade and use a new one since they are so affordable. I use Feather blades, I just replace them after two shaves and I get wonder close and smooth shaves.

That has been my experience as well! Thanks for commenting!

Personally, I do think a single edged shaving razor is your very best shave. I shave with a double edge razor myself, can't see going out and spending a lot of money on a 5 and 6 blade shaving blade like these new ones they have out on the market today. Then again, that's these silly, stupid kids of today, they gave have more money than they do brains.

I use Feather single edge blades in my Valet Auto Strop vintage safety razor which I use for touch ups and the back of my neck after a double pass straight razor shave. So, the blade gets very little use and lasts me months. I agree that they are extremely sharp. When fresh, I can not use one without getting a weeper. Sometimes, to settle down the edge I will use a fresh blade for an against the grain first pass on a three day beard. That usually "takes the edge off" so I can use it without getting a weeper on subsequent shaves. Extremely sharp. A very light touch is needed. These SE blades are also used in the One Blade razors. I would be terrified using one of these in a shavette style straight razor.

Maybe try a milder razor and you might not get weepers… The Henson AL13 or the Karve Overlander might work better for you…

@@classicalgrooming Sure, no problem…. Those 2 razors are considered by many to be “autopilot” razors since the right angle for optimal shaving is very intuitive.
