Doe current buffer slow down switching speed or is the same as the driver ic I want to increase current for drivering alot of mosfet
@Dc_tech38611 ай бұрын
A driver ic is more expensive then transistor so a simple totem pole can be use that provide more current like tip41c tip42c and voltage scaling is required to get high side volt of 20.5 v two transformer is required for the phase shift is done winding 32 turn of 24 gauge copper for voltage scaling to get best high voltage for drivers the igbt in high side .core area and materials is mnzm pc40 (20mmx25mm ) low side turn most be the same as primary. The first transformer high side is connected to Q1 mosfet and the second transformer low side is connected to Q2 mosfet and same is done for the Q3 and Q4

LM2103(1) price is 62c. 2N222 or BC337 price is 20c. So, the driver is not expensive anymore. But they used to be. And don't forget to add a transformer price (if it's not a part of a PCB). Ferrite cores are expensive indeed (unless you'd like to cannibal some broken ATX PSU).

How can death-time insertion be included to prevent 'shoot trough' in this circuit? Some nice dual output IC's with death-time regulation were found, but their dual outputs were either both positieve or both negatieve. Is it understood correctly that both outputs must be of opposite polarity, so positive & negative? Do yo know any respective IC drives which incl death time regulation please?

What was the problem pwm ic and mosfet burning on isolated gate driver circuit. When 400v side moset switching time 12v side mosfet will get short and burn after that pwm ic also burn. 400v side mosfet and resistor all good

sir my name is waruna kumara iam from srilanka , need to ask a question from you sir , in this video you were explaining about the action of high side mosfet but to drive it you need to connect source to ground but it hasnt happend due to low side fet is in the off position , please be kind enough to explain this
@tejonBiker2 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend see the videos about transistors/mosfets in the description of the videos. Transistor can be tricky to understand, the key to answer your question is: the voltage applied to turn on the mosfet is Vgs (Voltage Gate-Source), this means, positive voltaje (in case of N-Channel Mosfet) measured in the gate (positive probe) and in the source ( negative source). "about the action of high side mosfet but to drive it you need to connect source to ground" You can have your source pin connected to ground, this is source-common configuration, this is quite common in low voltage non isolated application, or in this case the lower part the half bridge, but is not the only case. You can trigger mosfet in "floating position" (source not connected to "GND"), but remember, you need a dedicated/isolated power supply with positive output at gate-pin in the mosfet referenced with the source-pin, no matter if the source-pin is connected to ground, this is where transformer enter, the transformer driver can create dedicated/isolated voltages and at the same time send activation signal (is a win-win). I hope this helps, from a guy that in their time have the same questions.

It only has about 200mA driving current capability, you would need to amplify it with a PNP/NPN pair capable of at least 500-600mA, but 1-2A is recommended minimum.

Can we use optocoupler as an isolated gate driver? Thank you. Proud subscriber here. ❤
@tejonBiker2 жыл бұрын
In theory yes, but it's not very practical, is better combinate with small transistors to propagate signals to the power transistor

Thank you so much! Please show support to my video with Super thanks. Please wait for my new videos!! I am sure you'll find your answer.
@dingsens28102 жыл бұрын
No, you can not use an optcoupler as a gate driver, at least not on its own. To make this work, you would need an isolated power supply. Additionally, since the optocoupler provides you only a transistor output, to make it work in high frequency applications you would still need either a proper gate driver or at least a transistor drive stage, otherwise you would have to make the pull up or down resistor too small for practical use. Besides, if you already have a power supply, you could also use a digital isolator ic like the SI8421. And at this point why not use a proper high voltage half bridge driver.
