.Better. Grab the nut on the line with vice grips. Unscrew the hose side. If the nut is seized, heat it up and cool it with water.

Def. didn't need to cut line. Hold the nut take the hose off and loosen the nut with PB BLASTER then connect new hose.👍

I tried that, I’d rather not risk breaking or twist the tubing. A new fitting and flare was the best measure for repair IMO. The brake lines were replaced here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mp-niYaMpdijbbssi=gJFiuW78T0-DbQY-

I got the double flare down. But the brass unions are not holding?!?!? Should i try a steel fitting or just replace the while line? It runs between the framd rail nd gas tank ill just have to route it differntly i guess im not pulling the tank
@richardstacey5618 Жыл бұрын
No, no, no. Won't work on steel pipes. You need to anneal the pipe before you attempt to make the joint. Heat with a blow lamp or oxy until the pipe is red hot. Cool slowly.

Yes on stainless steel, please provide information

Use some heat (not too much or the hose will come off) and some grip pliers...

Dirty real dirty. In actual practice the tube pushes into the block and now you have a scenario where the line must be replaced. The fitting should have been heated
@ATEMOFFROAD11 ай бұрын
Many videos on this subject, even Orielys and autozone have this same video and write up on brake line repair using the same exact tooling, tried heat to remove the fitting but I didn’t want to harden or anneal the material, the fitting would have needed to be replaced anyway garuntee, experience tells me I would have damaged it in the process. added extended steel braided flexible brake lines for the jeep anyway. Fitting is still holding up.

I bought one of those kits and it failed on the 3rd flare. My uncle used this on my dad's 1979 Caddy. It lost all the fluid. I use compression fitting. They never leak unlike flares. The cheap tool fabricates flares poorly. Compression fitting are prefabricated. When the olives were round you could push it right into the body with the caps. If you took the caps off after you would need a pair of pliers to pull the lines out of the compression fitting. A brass olive works like the rubber seals in calipers and cylinders compressed between 2 metal cylinders. Except the modulus of elasticity in brass is much higher than rubber.

Cheap tools, cheap results. Compression fittings are not legal in some areas and applications.
@suggesttwo Жыл бұрын
@@125AXer compression fitting are prefabricated. You can buy an expensive tool but if you don't know how to use it 😜 it doesn't matter. Everyone knows how to use an open end wrench. Making a double flare is a complex operation with a tool people don't have or know how to use. In areas where they are banned people buy a tool they're not familiar with to perform a complex operation on the braking system. What could go wrong? The lawyer that did the should be shot with a 50mm gun for the many deaths and carnage s/he has surely caused.

Compression fittings are not safe for brakes. Big no no.👎
@suggesttwo Жыл бұрын
@@joanstehlik235 If you have a round olive and you tighten it and ram the olive into the body of the compression fitting and then unscrew the caps you would need a pliers to pull it out after. Pinched between the line and body the olive seals like the rubber o rings in the master cylinder, callipers and wheel cylinders. If you think those rubber seals can take more pressure than a brass olive there's a bridge 🌉 in NY I'd like to sell your, cheap.

I can't think of a better DIY project to end your life or someone else's life. "Hey, that's funny. The brake peddle went to the floor."
@ATEMOFFROAD Жыл бұрын
There are plenty of ways , especially those that are not DIY. Like riding a motorcycle or not using a parking brake. A Truck driver killed himself last night, while he Was exiting the cab of his truck, he accidentally tripped to the floor simultaneously while the weight of a forklift loading the trailer moved the truck forward and ran him over. Now that’s not funny. Brake lines can be repaired and are made all the time.

@@ATEMOFFROAD I just want to be clear, I wasn't trying to be a dick but brake work with nonstandard parts carries more risk then any other repair. We used to rebuild wheel cylinders but now we replace them. It's just good practice especially if there is liability involved.
