Sweet mag drill! Hearing you talk about the grease barrier had my time on the B1 bombers come to mind. The wing framework on the outer edges had grooves cut in them similar to an o-ring groove. After the skin was installed, there were threaded holes where you screwed in an adapter and injected a sealer from one end of the seam to the other. This was done because there was just no way to get to those seams any other way. Plagued with fuel leaks, the fuel tanks were injected again. The sealant was supposed to come out the other end of the groove so that you knew it had made the trip. Along with the leaks we had the sealant getting in the tanks and contaminating the fuel. Not good. After some real head scratching and deep investigation...crawling around inside the wings...we found where the sealant was coming from. It was oozing out of a mysterious groove, into the inside of the tank! More investigation gave us the reason why. Sometime in the build a change had been made to the wing structure and where a connecting part used to be wasn't there anymore. Someone just didn't get the revision to the drawings covering the change. So when you said you didn't want the grease oozing out just made me laugh at the very unpleasant flashback I had of crawling around in severely claustrophobic, dark and dangerous fuel tanks. We finally got the tanks sealed up, but it was sure some tense times. In my opinion, Rockwell should have stuck to making drill presses and truck axles. Ah, those were the good old days......LOL Cheers Terry

i realy enjoy your stories. i use to listen to people older than me tell stories of their days in the mill, the factory, and so on. they were always so proud of what they accomplished. miss seeing pride in work. the attitude to today is more about how little someone can.

@j.c.smithprojects thank you JC! Doing the serpentine crawl in a fuel tank sopping with jet fuel was never on my happy list. It's funny how that one statement gave me a flashback to something I hadn't thought about since it happened. There are so many things you do in the military that are dangerous besides getting shot at. I've done and seen a lot of things and sometimes sit and wonder how I'm still alive. Stories, I got them. I try to limit myself and have deleted whole posts thinking people don't want to know this ..... stuff. I'm glad you like them. I'll try to keep them brief...LOL! Cheers Terry

im thinking shipping container. weld rows of racking to the ceiling to hang parts from. exhaust fan. remote heat source. parts could hang there until i am ready to install them.

That brand new Milwaukee mag drill kit is a really sweet set up. A rapid charger, 2 6.0 batteries are nice. I have 3 6.0 batteries, my small 3/8" fuel brushless impact and my 3/8" fuel brushless mid torque use those. I have 1 of the 12.0 high output batteries, my older 1/2" high torque fuel brushless uses it. My newest 1/2" high torque fuel brushless uses an 8.0 battery. And my 1" drive impact uses a 12.0 Forge battery. As you may be able to tell I really love my Milwaukee tools.

Do not worry about waves in the frame rail. As a former dealer if you look down the rail of a new truck it will make you seasick.

hello J.C. how about using some old scaffolding for your paint rack ?? it would lay flat when your not using it and you could build it as long or high as needed
@j.c.smithprojects5 сағат бұрын
yes and i can move that out of the way once the parts are dry. that is a great idea.

You can take two step ladders and spread extension ladder on top and have tons of room to hang parts FYI.

JC, a piece of truck frame that’s otherwise scrap would be a good start to a bigger paint rack.

What happened with the diesel fuel heaters you purchased? Did they not work out well. I thought for sure you would be using one in this shop for this build.
@j.c.smithprojects2 сағат бұрын
still working just fine. this shop is quite a big bigger and open ceilings. we need the temp higher for painting.
@Daves_adventures431514 сағат бұрын
You need a paint shed. I bet you could build one. NOT SAYING ITS COST AFFECTIVE.
@j.c.smithprojects6 сағат бұрын
thought about a shipping container. i could weld rows of track from front to back on the ceiling. exhaust fan. remote heat source. parts could hang undisturbed until i am ready to install them.

Will the frame affect the alignment?
@j.c.smithprojects6 сағат бұрын
it most definitely can. crossmembers might bring it close but with this many defects, its almost a certainty. only way to know is to take it to an alignment shop to be checked.
@billtodd65094 сағат бұрын
I know what you mean about the temp this week. It was minus 15 outside my garage door yesterday am.(Wednesday morning). Going to hate to see the gas bill on our 42X40 when bill gets here, haha.

Ordering the lights, odd, or even is like choosing which side to butter your bread.😅 Will you sand the scratches smooth and paint the new frame?
@j.c.smithprojects6 сағат бұрын
i worked on this frame rail for hours. i tried sanding out the less severe scratches and flattening the ridges of the deep gouges. it looks much better but far from what i would have liked. might look good from a far but it is far from good.

Jersey Discount Tool has those puck lights, 3 pack for $70 i believe. Same manufacturer as Cyclops. I just got one cause im a die hard puck lite guy too

Order the even number because you will have an even amount of clean lights to start with and will loose or break one before they all get dirty Hahahaha

I see this from time to time on trailer frames. My fix is to cut the bend, straighten the frame and then reweld it and add a fishplate with plug welds behind. I don't see a reason this wouldn't work for you and on this job it seems like a no-brainer.
@j.c.smithprojects5 сағат бұрын
its not just bent, its twisted. the best way i know to fix it is to cut it off where the last known straight section is and weld in a good section.
@HKRXPRS5 сағат бұрын
@@j.c.smithprojects Maybe try a heat and quence. That's worked well for me many times.
