This is really good tutorial. It's also making me think again about the grip. I was doing them with thumbs forward with 2x 24kg , but after first 3-4 workouts, felt increasing strain in my left elbow tendon that almost turned into tennis elbow. So I switched to a thumbs leading backwards at 45 degress on downswing to thumbs pointing inwards on upswing. Thus I could swing with narrower stance and avoid the ekbow joint hyperextension risk that comes with thumbs forward at the end of downswing when elbow locks abruptly with the weight coming back and behind my knees

I love “Suitcase Swings” and aim to keep my feet as close as possible - perhaps 4 inches apart, and ensuring that my knees stay straight. Admittedly I’m swinging double 8kg at the moment, but as an exercise to keep the core working with a good hip snap, in my opinion it’s one of the best. Of course not the same as double 24kgs nevertheless a good variation on swings.

You are a bad ass if you are swinging double 48s & bigger. I look forward to having that problem. I am subbed, & glad I watched this as I wasn't packing the shoulder on the outside swings. I remember first seeing Mike Mahler do these, & I like it better then feeling I am in a sumo stance.
@dr_spacepirate3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this informative video. i am very grateful that you are doing all this for free. In fact i have adopted using double kB outside swings over the classical Kettlebell swings (inside). I can feel lot more lats and weirdly, this feels much more natural. maybe that is just me. !

Great video Joe - with bigger legs (& I'm average height) it's something I've been struggling with during long cycle.. needing to keep the feet slightly wider during the clean so the bells don't clang together and bounce off the inside of my knees, but then it's harder to jerk

Coach, what are your thoughts on Mark Wildman’s suggestion that with grip on all KB swings the thumb should point back, so arms are internally rotated?
@kettlebellmusclegain3 жыл бұрын
I dont like it at all. Unless for single arm where up body can be rotated too. Most people have too much internal rotation allbday then add exercises to it? Watch the best in KB sport. Its pretty rare to see double internal rotation
@kettlebellmusclegain3 жыл бұрын
I also made a vid on that a few months ago.

I've noticed the thumb forward grip is much easier on my forearms and tendons. Is that normal? Also, what should I do whilst experiencing forearm and wrist pains?? I've just been avoiding exercises that tweak me up, and I've cut back on the volume, cause I think maybe I was doing too much work per session.

Which and Hows different muscle effected between double kettlebell swing and double kettlebell swing OUTSIDE legs?
@kettlebellmusclegain2 жыл бұрын
hips and traps mostly. gives you different power production depending on wide or narrow stance

@kettlebellrebellion36553 жыл бұрын
Awesome!!! Does having a thumbs forward grip help with the issue of bells banging near the knees? I generally use a thumbs back grip for hardstyle training with iron bells, would you recommend switching to a thumbs forward grip for sport if they are pretty consistently banging at the knees? I am thinking the rotation is what is causing it to happen...

So flaring the lats is the same as packing the shoulder (scapular retraction)? Also you mention lifting with the spinal erectors (low back) when we are tight. I am really tight in my low back, and I think this is what I am doing as I feel it in my low back muscles after a lot of swings. I don't have access to coaching so how can I train, or stretch to correct this?
