You can't imagine how helpful those streamed live performances were during the covid times (they did it several times, each time a full concert). Of course some other bands did it too, but Band-Maid put so much heart into their performances ... I'm so grateful.

It always amazes me how often Saiki tenses up and pours her entire physical and mental essence into phrases; measure-after-measure, song-after-song. I think she's maybe a gym-rat; I've read translations of interviews of her saying she works out specific muscle groups for singing to stand up to the physical demands. And also, how do she and Miku remember so many lyrics?

MANNERS is the grooviest song from BAND MAID with a savage rhythm section. BLACK HOLE is the first step of KANAMI's dream. She was to create a song for BAND MAID with 230 BPM. AKANÉ said " i need 5 arms to play that speed. So KANAMI challenging AKANÉ with the 200 BMP part of the song. Black hole is a nut.

I'm late! lol Firstly, I'm super excited you guys are gonna watch the docs. They just stun you with how much of a miracle this band is. How things HAD to happen the way they did to make this thing called Band-Maid happen. Secondly, this video is the one I pick when I'm trying to addict someone to Band-Maid. Because normally I ask "What kind of music do you like?" so I can pick a track that suits their taste to infect em with the BM bug. But invariably I get the answer "Oh, I like all kinds of things." So when this video hit, I was like "perfect!". lol Thirdly, a great song for Saiki's emotion filled singing? About Us. Another covid era song, that was a message directly to the fans from the band. That'll be a good one when you get to it. But covid really affected the band in many ways. About Us, Afterlife, Unleash, and Memorable are all songs that if you look deeper into, you'll find they were brought about by the band's frustration, struggles, sadness caused by it. But also the triumph, overcoming, relief, and thankfulness that came from overcoming it. Really solidified a feeling of there for the fans of that time.

I love the "Band-Maid" outfits way way more than most of the racy, skimpy Halloween outfits. I truly admire the Band-Maid style, like where maids are loved and appreciated for their hearts and minds. Thanks TJ and TG. Manners has such a classic rock groove. I've always liked Saiki's voice, and she has really grown over the last year. I think some of her best vocals are on their new album Epic Narratives, especially on Letters to you and The one. They are playing Black Hole pretty frequently lately. One of the many cool things about that song is Miku and Saiki singing different lines. I saw them play this in Charlotte. They absolutely nailed it. (You can watch that on YT with a great view of Kanami, Saiki, and Akane. You can hear everyone, and Miku's vocals really pop. Band Maid Charlotte pt 1 at 09:10.) Have a great weekend!

The Manners/Black Hole video will always be in my top three list (along with 10 other clips) Misa owns both those tracks. Not withstanding the sheer brilliance of the other four Maids though. The look of absolute concentration on Miku's face throughout Black Hole is precious. Not a smile through the whole song. Her vocal rhythms were so different to the rhythms she was playing on the guitar. Kanami really pushed her in the writing of this song. When you react to the documentaries, and see the history & the "BAND-MAID Lore" of these girls, you will have an even deeper love & appreciation for this band.

BTW the Day of Maid Blu-Ray that comes with the higher priced Epic Narratives option BEGINS with Black Hole and then goes into Giovanni ( before Forbidden Tale, this song was THE prog songs of prog songs for BM ), and then Balance another very difficult "sing". How Saiki does this is astonishing. Another btw, you two have the it factor in reacting, and have become a top 3 fav. Every time I hear Black Hole it’s so special. It’s true their are prog bands that could play it instrumentally, for sure, but I don’t know of one that can do so and also provide the beautiful vocal sound, and feel, that Sakai and Miku add. Consequently I don’t think there’s another band that would write something quite like this either. It’s yet another instance of “Band Maid doing Band Maid things”. It’s the only way to describe it.

It doesn't bother me one bit that Saiki sings with a Japanese/English mix, in fact I think that it adds to her unique vocals. But if she was singing in English, she would be world famous by now as a solo artist. Her performance in the Puzzle and Anemone acoustic Official Live Video from Zepp Tokyo alone, would be tough to beat by anyone in any genre of music. Especially these days with so many other top female singers live vocal performances being brought into question by the over use of backing tracks. By the way the opening guitar intro to Black Hole was played by Miku.

One aspect of Saiki's performances I don't see commented on is the intensity of her eyes. Every so often, in many videos, there is a shot of Saiki looking into the camera. And often there is energy coming out of her eyes, so intense it is hard to look at. This Black Hole video has such a moment, as well as a matching facial intensity.

Got a "Deep Dive" interview in Rolling Stone (Japan). The interview includes how they create/work on their music mainly using the internet. Akane adds some detail how she works her drums for the internet. Misa updates the latest on her drinking. They discuss working with Mike Einziger of Incubus on "Bestie. Also their work with The Warning. Something interesting they said was both were working in their Second Language. Recommend you read it.

There are so many sides to this band and this Manners / Black Hole combo shows that. They have lots of songs that fall into the category of "controlled chaos". One thing I love is that no matter how weird things get, they never lose the arc and structure of the song. How lucky are we to be alive during the reigns of Band-Maid and Lovebites. Add to them Nemophila and a lot of other Japanese groups and musicians. I love the groove of Manners. It was what hooked me the first time I heard it. Black Hole is real constructed chaos. The “stutter “ you hear is being played by Miku. She is playing that opening (and it comes in again before the 2nd verse) in 12/8, or a triplet based rhythm, and then the band comes in with a straight 4/4 feel. The melodic, rhythmic and melodic progressions in this are unreal. In regard to you wearing a Maid outfit have you seen the video with Herman Li wearing it? Funny as hell!😅
