Brad the San Diego jam knot is the best knot out there for any type of hook to line rigging. I have used that same knot before I knew what the name of it was, which is probably 35 years. I have yet to find a faster tying and stronger knot. Great vid Brad keep it up and rooting for you to make the elites next year.

I remember when they had knot wars on north American fisherman show every week they would have a challenger and then they would have the winner from the last week show then the winner would go and face a new Challenger the next week. But I always love getting other people's opinions. Love your shows just down to earth country boy like me. Keep up the awesome job. I'm new to KZbin this year and I'll be having to learn all the curves to doing a channel I'm doing a fishing and tournament and anything outdoors channel.

It's not a double San Diego Jam knot, it's called a Double Pitzen. A San Diego requires to pass the tag end through the bottom loop first and only then back through the top loop.

Great video and cool to see you over on BTL too. I use the double San Diego for fluoro and break off a lot lot less. It is impossible to tie to a bare hook so I usually dangle some weight on the hook to make it easier. The down side to the knot is when your hung up and have to break off it doesn't break at the knot and breaks closer to the pole. I did switch to the FG knot for leader but stick with the Albright when using braid backing to fluoro. After a bit of practice the FG is not that bad under the right conditions. Don't tie it while on the water, don't use cheap stiff braid, and don't use slick braid like PowerPro Slick unless you tie an extra knot on the end of the fluoro. Steer clear of those issues and and the FG knot is much easier. Before you know it you will be putting leaders on all your rods because it is so fun to tie. Well maybe not but at least I know longer hate tying it.
@BradleyHallmanFishing

@@BradleyHallmanFishing Law of diminishing returns means so much investment (time or money) to improve something that only has barely little more value is hardly worth it. Particularly if Albright works so darn well (almost never fails and is so easy to teach and tie) why frustrate learning new more difficult method except, of course, for academic purposes. I think I can get you on this one, (knot use years). But then, learning knots is the foundation of throwin baits. I've watched those N.A.A. knot tests till they got taken off TV to see about knot strengths. New lines want new knots. All the knots I learned were for monofilament lines and fly lines. Even old I have to learn new. Cool. I've always tied the barrel knot to join lines. I see it's weakness. This one looks good.

on the line to line knot what do you do when you have micro guides on your rod ? i've been having trouble with tying uni and palomar knot with flouro but i've given up on flouro now i'm going to use the knot you just showed us with my copolymer line , i mainly use braid but it doesn't go well with a wacky rig or shakey head so i've always used mono old school but it's strong but stretches so i'm trying copolymer now , the flouro has broken on me several times leaving a bad taste in my mouth but i guess if you tie the right knot it's ok just a little stiff for me and i was using Seagar flouro it's supposed to be good line but i give up , it's braid on texas rig and frog fishing and copolymer for paddle tail swimbaits and wacky rigs for me anyway i've used braid for all applications and caught fish accept for wacky rig , thanks for the video

On the double San Diego jam, does it matter if you tie it holding both ends then wrapping down towards the lure and instead of coming out of the hole at the top income through the hole just above the hook eye. Never had the knot fail. Seems to be the exact same knot just pinched in different spots and you come through a hole at the top and I come through the hole at the bottom. Do you think this makes a difference. It’s the ways Zona ties it, that’s where I learned to tie it was in his show. He calls it the “shark knot”. Lol

Derrick Westfall Short answer is when Floro first came out many years ago most of us had been tying the Palomar for most things with mono. After you tie the Palomar but before you pull it tight stick your finger in the hole between the lure and the top of the knot. Then pull down. You will see the knot flip over and then it slides very easy on down. Try it! It works. It should not fail if tied correctly. But not with floro.

Wet the line maybe right before it really gets tight. Look very close at the floro and make sure its not burned from heat caused from the final pull. That is my guess.
