Two seals are entangled in our most common culprits: fishing line and plastic packing straps. Both originate in the fishing industry. This once again indicates the devastating consequences this industry has on marine life. These animals get trapped, injured, and killed by the ocean rubbish they get caught in. 🦭

I often wonder if any of the animals that you saved go back to the group and tell everybody how much better they feel? Do they know that you're helping them?
@franceshorton918

I believe sociable herd or group mammals have an "I'm OK " and "are you OK?" signal. Also the nursing females call and identify their pups. So it's likely the seals tell each other ""I'm back, I'm ok" but I don't know if they have any group evaluation of the context. It must be truly terrifying to be singled out from your group and enclosed in a narrow net. And then, after your soreness is disturbed, you get released. So, much sympathy to the seals. We cause all this harm. 😢 And much love and sympathy to our OCN teams who deal with the seals and remedy what they can ❤ 🏃‍♂️ 🦭 ✂️ ❤

Probably not. They sometimes stop fighting the rescuers out of shock. They feel relief once a tight entanglement has been cut, they can breathe again, and that feeling might distract them.

What I truly admire about your heroic group of saviors is that you all communicate without having to be right. One of you will tell the other what to do although they have done it before. One of you knows to use the zipper, scissors, etc. It happens within seconds and efficiently with all safety due to the animal. I applaud your strength and dertimination and appreciate what you do. Thank you ever so much for saving the beautiful and necessary sea life the universe so desperately needs. I wish you all the best of health, prosperity, longevity, and acclimation you all deserve. Your videos give me back my faith in humans that I so desperately need. Have a safe and beautiful day.

Another comment - I was thinking how much these seals can resemble our pet/family dogs in the face. That reminded me - in the late 70's I lived in Oak Harbor, WA. We were out on a government beach with our Irish Setter (who LOVED the water) and another person was out with their black lab. At some point the guy left the area. A bit later, our dog was playing in the water and we saw the black lab a short distance from our dog, who continued to swim towards the dog. I stood in the really cold water and patted it, trying to get the dog's attention and have it come back to the beach. I couldn't figure out why the guy left his dog! Our dog decided to return to us and the other dog followed him for a little bit. He was close enough for me to actually see his face now and that's when I realized our dog was actually "running away" and back to us because it was not a black lab but a seal. It was the most amazing moment - it was not the guy's dog after all and I got to see a seal up pretty darn close. What a moment. What a memory. If I were young again and able, wouldn't I like to join in the rescues. Scary but what a thought! Use your youth, agility and strength as long and much as you are able. Thank you for sharing these.

Hi Jenn, greetings from Auckland New Zealand 🇳🇿 Enjoyed your comment. Agree, seals faces are very similar to canines. Suggest you search online [ maybe Wikipedia? ] for the evolution of seals and the common ancestor of dogs, wolves, bears, and, surprisingly whales, dolphins and other marine mammals. Fascinating. Also, if you like, look up information about the use and development of WHISKERS in animals. Humans also have vestiges of whisker holes - but apparently our whiskers are now the inside hairs in our nose. Unless I've been reading online rubbish! 😃 😊

At the end as the young bull was released, it almost sounded to me as though he let out two angry, "How dare you?! Back off or you get it!" snarly grunts, and then one surprised, "Oh? You're not going to hurt me and you're letting me go?" one at the end before heading to the water.... I know I'm anthropomorphising the seal, but that's what it seemed like to me.

Watching all the OCN rescues and seeing the statistics on plastics, it really start to sink in. I hope it does for many and that changes will come. Watch ‘Cutting the Line’ as well and share with others

Naude is the best❤ thanks for not pulling the line from the first zipper. You guys must be so tired, thank all so much, in the name of humanity, for your efforts.

I react to the comment at the end of this video. If the amount of plastic in the ocean doubles every 6 years, then in 60 years the amount of plastic will be 1024 times more!!! I let you think about that. The urgency is more than real!

Both of them look really strong and feisty despite the entanglements. Well done, again!
