Times passed and Jim's talking points got more ambiguous and I started to doubt. Finally after painful reflection I switched camps and followed Layne for over a decade now because he really does put the science to what he says. Idk if Layne Norton ever reads these comments, but if he does, I really really want to see his take on what RFK Jr, Dr Phil and this whole team is planning on doing to "Make America Healthy Again". They've just said a lot of things that I think Layne Norton has covered that I dont think are very true, like how foods are addictive, how bad sugar is, how bad seed oils are, etc. And my concern is the potential to have some foods banned or mandated when the science or the studies they're using are not accurate. I'd love to hear his opinions on what these guys are saying and how true some of the things they're saying actually are because it could impact all of us. Would greatly appreciate a video on that!

The majority of guys with low T need to first, get a couple hours of direct sunlight every day, get sufficient and quality sleep, eat a healthy diet, avoid all smoking and alcohol, lose fat till they are at a 12% to 18% maximum body fat, hydration, nutrition, review their prescription medications (some can be detrimental to SHBG & T levels), regular exercise and resistance training but not too much. Another question is, how much of a rise in testosterone is truly desired? How many would benefit from a testosterone booster?
@Parker_Miller_M.S.4 күн бұрын
Solid point about there being no discernable effect of raising testosterone modestly within the already normal range. The folks at Barbell Medicine have talked about this for years and in their more recent podcasts about testosterone even talk about the errors within the actual measurement and biological variability that individuals experience. So even an increase of say 100ng/dL within the normal range may fall within biological variability and measurement error of the test. Test boosters are a waste of money, and one should talk to their doctor about feelings commonly associated with hypogonadism, rather than listen to people selling a product or service online.
@bmar7404 күн бұрын
Let's dig deeper though. We take Creatine so we can experience that small hopeful 5-10% boost, right? for the people who aren't non-responders. A pre-workout is used so we can get a few more reps or sets in. But even these both being recognized as effective are not going to effect one's body in an extremely impactful way like exogenous steroids do. What's the discernible difference here? A TRT dose from the doctor is going to sometimes quadruple your T levels. I've been on low dose testosterone in the past and have also used Ashwagandha and do notice an increase in androgenic effects with Ashwagandha alone. The real point of talking on is when people think *double your T* it means you will get *double the effects* which isn't true. But there's no denying literature evidence men have had decreasing levels of Testosterone in the past century and *Supplements* are supposed to do just that - to supplement diet and exercise.
@Parker_Miller_M.S.4 күн бұрын
@bmar740 fair points. But at present my position comes down to observable effects as it relates to relevant outcomes. In the lifting example, this is hypertrophy, strength gain, recovery. All of these are consistently shown to be enhanced over placebo. The evidence around T boosters don't have the same evidence. Most often the primary measure is either free T or total T, but not an outcome related to performance as were the case with creatine. Ashwaganda studies report relatively consistent increases in T and a 2021 Bayesian meta-analysis even reported improvement in VO2 max and strength but this was only including 12 studies so the certainty of the evidence is not the best. The other ingredients often used in T boosters have even less evidence. Point is, creatine has strong evidence showing it'll work in most people, but T boosters ingredients besides Ashwaganda have limited evidence and within a normal physiological T range, generally speaking, wouldn't have any notable effects beyond placebo that would be clinically relevant. Not to mention herbal supplements and botanicals vary tremendously in their purity and potency of active ingredients making purchase less than recommended.
@bmar7404 күн бұрын
@@Parker_Miller_M.S.Ashwagandha most definitely has positive outcomes on increasing both strength and VO2 max during exercise, Here's two that I found from a quick Google search: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8006238/ and pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4658772/ not considering the massive positive stress reduction and cortisol research which also impacts testosterone and recovery, and of course well-being. You do have to consider most of the studies involving t-boosters are going to test for the parameter of testosterone. Creatine is more sports oriented so of course the research will be more expansive involving exercise and thus it looks more impressive. Testosterone's effects also improve many aspects in life beyond simply weight training.
@bmar7403 күн бұрын
@@Parker_Miller_M.S. I guess my second comment didn't get posted (or deleted by Biolayne) but I shared two studies showing an increase in both strength and VO2 max with Ashwagandha found on the first page of google. Again, I see no discernible difference and stress is also a major contributing factor to less recovery and bad sleep, both which impact testosterone. To add even further, testosterone's effects extend deeper beyond just the gym.

I was all about him for a while and while do like some of his products, he became more mainstream, didn’t follow the science and just didn’t adjust as times went. For instance, his PreJym X, IMO was a lazy product. Just doubling dosages in a couple ingredients and adding some neurotropics, kept BCCAs in and calling it an “advanced pre workout”. So yeah that’s why I follow you now, you’re real and you’ll admit when you’re wrong before and adjust.

Agreed, I used to looked up to him and listen to him a lot as well but in past couple of years I have started listening you and some other people lot more for guidance. Although I still use pro and pre jym since I think they are one of the best supplements out there.
@zacharylaschober2 күн бұрын
The prejym is such a mess of ingredients for a preworkout. 2g of creatine is worthless as a dose and in a preworkout due to having no acute ergogenic effect. beta alanine is a similar situation, with the only effect being the paresthesia which athletes associate with preworkouts "working" even though this needs to saturate like creatine and should be higher dosages. then the beet root powder has some but this is a low end dose and as a vasodilator often needs to increase as athletes are more trained. citrulline malate is similar to the beet root, but the dosage is a fine level if only for citrulline, but not with the likely 2g of malic acid. Then there is the series of BCAAs which are absolutely unnecessary and only have an effect if preferring to train relatively fasted (and then just get a BCAA powder). There are outright ridiculous claims, which he makes, and then there are these needless overcomplications and underdoses. Caffeine, citrulline, taurine, beet root extract, and maybe tyrosine and maybe huperzine and you'd have things which all have an amount of evidence to benefit a workout.

Look at Test [overall T], and imagine a bell curve. If one is at the upper end to top of the curve, or just on the upper part of the downside, there is a chance that quality ingredients can make a slight difference. If one if on the downside of that curve, forget over the counter suuplements. There is then only one way.

Stop going to the gym and lifting as hard as you can hence depleting your testosterone levels.
