AD200 in Bowens S Mount Adapter: f/5.6 +.9
AD360ii in Bowens S Mount Adapter: f/8 +.6
One AD200 in AD-B2 mount: f/8 +.2
Two AD200 in AD-B2 mount w/ 2 bulbs: f/11 +.2
The Godox AD-B2 is a mount designed to merge the power from two AD200 pocket strobes and combined it to deliver 400 w/s in a bowens mount.
Description from Adorama:
Turn your eVOLV200 R2 Pocket Flash into the next level of intelligent strobe life!
Flashpoint introduces the eVOLV Twin that joins two eVOLV’s to create a 400ws head with brilliant LED modelling.
The double header is more than just a power hitter. All you have to do is plug the original flashtubes from your two eVOLV’s into the Twin. Simply remove the modular heads from the eVOLV’s and slip lock the eVOLV200 bodies into the channel on the Twin and twosomes your power pleasure.
The Twin bracket has a light stand receiver with a tilt lock that is ready to attach to any 5/8” stud or light support. You now have a standard Bowens S-type friendly bracket head for all your essential modifiers; reflectors, softboxes, Parapops or snoots, and an umbrella shaft channel. You don’t need two eVOLV’s to take advantage of the 2X 20w LED modeling feature. Just one body will power the lamp with one barebulb inserted.
But, with a duo headed eVOLV200, you can have a real blast!
The eVOLV200, with the heart of the world famous Streaklight 360 TTL and the soul of the ever popular XPLOR 600 TTL, is now compatible with R2 Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and Olympus/Panasonic camera systems. The compact and efficient solution for travel, easy setup with the reliability of the Flashpoint R2 Wireless System. Never before has off camera lighting been so user friendly and masterful. It will change the way you harness your camera’s technology.
Now, twice as nice.
Combines 2 eVOLV’s into a single 400ws power champ
2 brilliant LED modeling lights straddle the barebulb flashtubes
Add your Bowens S-type modifiers directly to the Twin
The bracket is attaches to any 5/8” studded light stand or support
Accepts reflectors, softboxes, umbrella and more

Hey everyone quick update until I get a formal video up: This is NOT designed to use the AD360 / streaklight bulb. I, along with rumor sites and for sale listings all had this information wrong. The center slot is designed for placement of a single AD200 bulb for an even lighting pattern and will only draw from the 1 slot on the AD200. Meaning you can use it in the center without a second ad200 body attached. Please help me spread this information to prevent users from attempting. Other notes from questions asked - The 2 leds are independent of the power packs. Flashpoint states they are 20w each on their description. All I know is combined they are significantly more powerful than the AD600 led. Also, the LED's do NOT turn on and off with the flash recycle.

The description of the AD-B2 on Amazon said that you could use the AD360 bulb in the center. I'm sorry to hear this doesn't work, but thanks for saving me the $75! Thanks for the video as well. I'm considering ordering a second AD600 and the AD-B2 instead of adding an AD360. Has the dual AD200 setup been reliable for you (triggering consistently, not overheating, etc?)

Robert, I really appreciate your videos. They're concise, to the point, and professionally presented. They're also fluff-free which is something that can't be said about most photo gear reviews. The only negative thing I have to say is that you've cost me a bundle. I've been a Godox AD180 and AD360 user since before they were commercially available but your reviews convinced me it was past time for me to modernize my inventory. Two AD200s and a TT350S now on hand with an AD600 with remote head AND AD-B2 en route from China. Godox has clearly knocked one out of the park with their 2.4 gHz ecosystem.

+David Freedman haha, it's a local joke within our photography community that I'm a bad person to talk to if you don't want to spend money. I really appreciate the comments regarding my channel as it takes a good deal of effort to put this content out. It's so fulfilling when people find it valuable. I know a lot of people like to hang onto gear till the wheels fall off. If it ain't broke don't fix it, right? But, I've experienced so many benefits when I'm able to simplify my process. I just notice that when I can work with less parts, setup faster, and otherwise eliminate daily aggravations, that I am able to work with more purpose and finish feeling better overall. Today I walked in a hotel lobby (multiple weddings taking place) and saw someone carefully navigating their opened stand around furniture with a power cord (alien bee to vagabond) hitting their face and pocket wizard dangling. And I thought about how thankful I was for my AD200 on a cheetahstand lol.

That's a really good idea from Godox.That company is really know what the customers need.From the other side,if you own a godox ad600 like i do and most of the people,this is not essential,also with the money that you need to buy two ad200 plus the adapter you can buy the ad600 and save money as well...And before someone mention the portability,i can say the ad600 is portable enough with the build in battery..Really good reviews as always!Godox need to give you some kudos here

Yeah they listen well and seem to be one step ahead in their releases. While I agree that it's "non-essential" when compared directly to an AD600, it's actually far more cost effective for me. Previously I had 4 V860II's, 1 AD600 (TTL). Now with 2 AD200's and the AD-B2 I get rid of 2 V860II's and the AD600 and feel comfortable with all the same functionality and almost all of the power.

I would respectfully disagree with the AD600 > 200*2 idea. Of course AD600 is more powerful and you only need to charge one battery instead of two. Yet having 2 flashes instead of one give you a fail save solution if one fails to work on site. Also, two AD200s is still smaller than one AD600 in storage size, provided than you'll bring bowens mount modifiers anyway. Of course if you always have an assistant and also travel by car or van, my words are neglect-able, yet for a portion of the market, including me, photographers need to travel on their own without any helping hands or wheels. Anyway for sure AD600 gives you best value/cost solution, just I see AD200 and this twin head bowens mount a nice add on/alternative to his big brothers.

I love almost everything about the Godox AD B2. Why didn’t they make a spring loaded handle??? It is impossible to turn it past a big softbox. I switched the spring loaded handle of an old Bowens T bracket I did not use anymore. And while I was at it I removed the two toothed washers on the inside so I can adjust the angle smoothly. Now the AD B2 is perfect!

Robert Hall Photography I have read it. Thing is, as a third party solution, this is sort of a hack (a cool one though). Godox has to address this within their product offerings (you need to get them to do it man!!!!) Any chance you could test whether the native umbrella reflector could also work? Or would it constraint light from reaching the edges of a large modifier ie 30x120 strip softboxes due to the concave shape it has?)

great when hss or short recycle time is required? It doubles the power, but more important using 2 flashes halves the recycle time and let you use hss with the output staying the same. So it beats an AD-400

I've had bad luck with AD-B2 units so far. Same problem with each: #1 port doesn't fire with one or two AD200 units attached. Middle #1 port fires, #2 port fires, but not top #1 port. This unit was Flashpoint's. First three were Godox. After the third unit didn't work, I thought the problem may be my AD200 units. So I returned them. Bought two new AD200's and the Flashpoint AD-B2. #1 and #2 ports fired simultaneously as designed, but only for about five minutes before the #1 port started failing. I'm baffled. And I'd appreciate any feedback...

Could you please do an overheating test? Comparing this set up to an AD600, the main difference I now see is the AD600's built in fan may keep it working with overheating protection kicking in for longer shoots.

Overheating figures are detailed in the AD200 user manual, if you could those to reference the comparison you are looking for?
@dauntless48
@dauntless48 7 жыл бұрын
Robert Hall Photography The manual says the AD200 should be able to go 60 1/1 bursts before needing to cool down. I was wondering if the B2 allow the AD200's to go longer before overheating, both in single and dual configurations, and how that compared to the AD600.

it's going to be identical since it uses the same counter. Only difference is when you are using 2 at 1/2 power to match the power of 1 at full, you would get the benefit of the 1/2 power counter.

It's pretty cool that you can do that, but isn't it cheaper to just buy the ad600
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 7 жыл бұрын
+Raymond Monk this keeps being brought up. If you compare to a TTL AD600, no it's roughly the same price. If you compare to a manual AD600 then the AD600 is cheaper but the features don't match up. And I don't think it should look at as a direct comparison because the setup in this video could be used as 2 separate lights, and an AD600 can't do that. The power comparisons are for people to determine whether this will satisfy their power needs.

Hi Robert! Thanks for the informative videos. I have a quick question. I just got AD-B2 and mounted it on my Matthews C-stand (5/8” column tip) and even when fully tightened, it’s wobbly and AD-B2 is positioned not upright but slightly slanted. Same thing happens when I mount it on Matthews 6” pin with 5/8” end. Upon close inspection of the AD-B2 mounting portion, I realize the reason why this happens is because the way AD-B2 mounting portion is shaped on the inside. The innermost diameter is smaller than 5/8” so the pin does not go all the way in. As a result, even when fully tightened, AD-B2 is wobbly and the worst part is that the tightening screw ends up damaging the pin (chrome finishing is coming off). Interestingly, I did not have this problem when I mount the AD-B2 on a Manfrotto or any other umbrella swivel mounts (lite-tite). I just can’t use it on any of my Matthews C-stands or baby stands. Did you run into any problem similar to this? Can you think of a solution to this problem? Much appreciated.

To double power of xplor 600 1:1 Only 1.) Plug XTR 16 reciever into Xplor 600 2.) Set Xplor 600 to optical transmission mode (lightning bolt) and set power to 1/1 3.) Add flash delay (custom function 0) of 23 to your X1T-C trigger by holding CH 3 seconds Enjoy double the power in HSS at 1:1 for $20 (cost of XTR16). Life saver when you are pushing the SS up to 1/8000.
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 7 жыл бұрын
First line is a bit misleading. This only would increase output in HSS. This isn’t HSS, this is hypersync/supersync/hi-sync And it suffers the same issues that hypersync does (which is why people tend to prefer HSS in the first place) in that you will get a gradient of light output across the frame/subject.
@kozz1984
@kozz1984 7 жыл бұрын
True, but unless you are in a clinical test setting (white wall + pixel peeping) you will be hard pressed to see a gradient. Still for $20 you can effectively get 1200 watts out of the xplor 600. Just trying to help, I wish I knew about this method a year ago because if I had I wouldn't of purchased two xplor 600's!

@mbeutel5854
@mbeutel5854 7 жыл бұрын
It'd be heavy and WAY larger since the AD360 is much thicker than the AD200 and it'd still require cords running down to the battery pack(s)
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 7 жыл бұрын
Doubt it. Requiring 2 power packs and 2 360 units for something that only provides .2 stop gain over an AD600, seems like it's not a good choice for them. and you'd lose efficiency with a cabled remote head (which would be necessary since the 360's are so much larger of a body), making it really pointless. I wouldn't expect many updates or add-ons to the AD360II moving forward.
@photonephotography8596
@photonephotography8596 7 жыл бұрын
The point is: 1- that AD600 is too big and heavy for traveling, especially, if you fly; 2- that you can use the AD360 units separately as well as together; 3- that doubling the power output gives you 720Ws-above many portable strobes in the market. The biggest problem of the mid-level Godox strobes are the lack of a modeling light. I think that with a twin mount the add-on modeling light would add a big usability to AD360 units as well with the double power output = 720Ws, which is a significant difference. From a marketing point of view: There are people who already own more than one AD360 units. I think big majority would love to buy a twin-mount to double their light efficiency with the add-on option of a modeling light.

Is there a way to power both modeling lights with one body or do you need two? One of the main reasons I'm interested in this adapter is for the modeling light(s). It appears that each light is powered by the flash unit on the corresponding side. I read the description, but I'm not clear on this point. Either way, if each lamp is 20 watts, it's still going to be a lot brighter than the XPLOR's 10 watt LED.

Partly because the video was already long and very few people have shown interest. I also don't consider these LED lamps to be true "modeling lamps" as they do not offer the same direction as the flash bulb and will not show the same pattern of light. But, the eyeball test tells me they'll be serviceable in a dim studio but still not very useful outdoors.

Thanks for this review and taking time to make the measurements! quick questions: 1. With two AD200 do you get a stronger modelling light than the one on the AD600? 2. The baby pin receiver... is it the same depth as the one on the AD600 (ie not quite the standard depth and really benefits from and elinchrome Adapter)? Thanks

Hi Robert, I have experience with PB960 battery life only a year or so Question is, Will this AD200 last longer, say like Quantum Turbo 2x2 could last 3 years Also PB960 does have power head reliability problems, when batteries dead, the head will only last double or so, I think it is related to capacitor or other components inside Want to know if AD200 battery system is worthed and last longer, because I can modify dead battery of PB960 but it seems AD200 battery is compact and not easy to modify when it is dead Any ideas ?
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 7 жыл бұрын
No clue! It's only been out for 6 months...so nobody can speak to the longevity of the AD200's Li-on battery. I will say, PB960's have been around for a long time now, so there's a good chance despite using it for a year, your's was manufactured and sat on a shelf for much longer.

the ad200 combo gives you the advantage of two TTL lights that you can use indiviually or combine when you need the extra power. i like that the options are there depending on what and how you shoot. is there even a need for the for the AD360? i know that they have more power than the AD200 but not as much as the AD600 but is the difference worth the size/portability benefit of the AD200?

Is there a list of AD200 recycle times somewhere including in HSS and does the AD-B2 affect the recycle times at all? Thanks.
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 7 жыл бұрын
Well, the max is 2s at full power on an ad200, and it goes down by 50% as you cut the power down. So, 2s 1/1, 1s 1/2, .5s 1/4, .25 1/8 and so on. HSS recycles just as fast however it will trigger the heat protection faster. The AD-B2 would effectively cut your recycle time in 1/2 for the same amount of light output on a subject since you are drawing from two power packs. Full power on a single AD200 (at x distance in X modifier) would take 2s to recycle and the AD-B2 with 2 AD200's would be set at 1/2 power to achieve the same output and therefore recycle in 1s.

TTL when using dual unit? When you are using 1 AD200 (TTL) camera will send the data to fire that 1 AD200. However if you are using 2 AD200 using AD-B2 then both units will fire. Does this mean TTL output will be 2x? Or do the 2 AD200 communicate (via AD-B2) and distribute the power between the 2 AD200? Thanks.

That set up is significantly more expensive than just using a ad600 and a slave speedlight for fill. Can you justify the extra price.
@CymBan
@CymBan 7 жыл бұрын
on Adorama 2 Xplor 200's + AD-B2 = $660 ($299 x 2 + $59) A TTL Xplor 600 is $750. I fail to see how that's 'significantly more expensive'. An Xplor 600 manual is ~$600. but w/o the flexibility of a 2 light setup. I currently have just one Xplor 200. I rarely need the full power of an Xplor 600 but I have more use for a 2 light setup.So later I can buy another 200 + this adapter and get close the 600's power for those few times I need it.
@karaokekingskingdom
@karaokekingskingdom 7 жыл бұрын
I was looking at ebay where the current price of a ad600 in the uk is low as £420 and a ad200 is about £270 and the adapter is £50. so nearly £600 for 2 ad200s+adapter for half a stop less light for 50% more cost is significant to me. You could buy any optical slave for a 2 light setup with the ad600 and still come in cheaper.

@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 7 жыл бұрын
But can an AD600 split in half and be two lights? No. Also, that's comparing the Manual AD600BM vs. the TTL capable AD200. If you are talking about a TTL AD600 then the price difference is almost non existent. Personally, i justify the price within my video, I'm using these all day as my two primary lights. The only additional cost for me is a $70 head and I could theoretically just sell my AD600. If comparing the two as options, the deciding factor is whether 2 AD200's would benefit your work more than a single AD600.

Hi, sorry if this has been asked already, I have scrolled through all the comments and watched the video again but didn't catch anything regarding this. If I were to adjust the the light manually or exposure compensation of the lights if shooting in ttl, do I have to adjust the two ad200's individually or does the b2 make them both operate like they are both 'one unit'? For example if I was to alter the light strength from the transmitter would I have to adjust group A and B to make sure they are both equal power or does the B2 make both the flashes operate as if it's just one group (i.e. Group A). Thanks a million Rob and everyone
